My friend and I visited the Malmaison Hotel in Edinburgh St Andrew's Square on numerous occasions. Over the past couple of years, we enjoyed the afternoon tea there and dinners at the weekends. So, we thought we would give each other the Christmas present by treating ourselves to Dinner, Bed and Breakfast at the very hotel that has helped us made so many happy memories when we were dining in the restaurant. In the process, we have also met some of the best staff who never failed to deliver first class service every time we visited.
Here's a big THANK YOU to Malmaison Hotel Edinburgh for making our eagerly awaited stay between Christmas and New Year an even more special occasion than we could have ever imagined or expected. Our experience during our stay was magical!
From the moment we stepped into Malmaison Hotel in Edinburgh St Andrew's Square, we were greeted with the smile and warm welcome by the receptionist. She's delightful and so efficiently checked us in and provided us with useful information about our meal times and the facilities of Hotel.
The bedroom we stayed in was luxurious, spacious, and with great views of the Firth of Forth. The bed was so comfortable and large, and all the facilities inside the room had a luxurious touch. Great decor all round; and we even received a welcome gift containing chocolates and some locally produced luxurious hand wash and hand lotion.
When we went to the restaurant for our dinner, we were greeted by the F&B Manager, Eddie, who presented us with a welcoming bottle of Champagne Lombard. We were overwhelmed by this wonderful gesture. We only briefly mentioned at booking that this was our Christmas present to each other. But we weren't expecting this grand gesture they have bestowed upon us. First, the upgrade of our room, then the complimentary chocolates and lovely gifts in the bedroom when we arrived, and now a bottle of Champagne Lombard at dinner. Thank you so much, Malmaison.
The Champagne Lombard was the perfect accompaniment to the dinner, which was so delicious and scrumptious. We savoured every moment we were there and thoroughly enjoyed our meal experience.
The next morning, after a good night's sleep in the large and comfortable bed, we proceeded to the restaurant for breakfast. What an array of selections of foods was served at breakfast. There were fresh fruits, a variety of cereals, fruit juices, teas and coffee, and freshly cooked hot breakfasts. We were well and truly pampered by all the services the hotel offered.
We were extremely impressed by the high quality of the bedroom, the high-end fixtures and facilities, and the quality of food and drinks. To top it off, every member of staff was so kind, helpful and friendly and they have made our stay, once again, a truly memorable and a very happy one indeed. We are so grateful for the gifts, too.
We would like to say THANK YOU again, Malmaison, for the wonderful experience which we have enjoyed during the short stay at Malmaison Hotel at Edinburgh. What a great way for us, and indeed for anyone, to end the year, showered with the thoughtful gifts, and especially the love, in this amazing establishment! Thank you, everyone, in Malmaison Edinburgh.
We have and will always highly recommend this remarkable and exciting Malmaison Hotel to anyone who wants a truly happy and memorable experience. Here's to many more happy and wonderful experiences for the years ahead.
Thank you, Mr Dickson, Dirk, and all the lovely staff for making this happen. It truly was a magical experience for us. We're deeply grateful.

Read moreBooked a suite room 1006 on 10th floor, will start with the pros The receptionist was very friendly and professional, explained everything we needed to know The room was nice but the AC. Wasn’t working properly ( manager has since said they will be looking into fixing it ) , due to it being 20 plus degrees we had to open the windows which led to sleepless night due to noise on the streets
We ordered room service for our daughter ( tomato pasta ) all food , we also ordered room service for an hour later for us at 1930 so could get our daughter down to sleep first , we got a call at 2000 apologising as busy down stairs won’t be long , then at 2035 it came , we each had a Mal burger and shared the calimari which was cold ish , I also had a portion of buffalo thighs but my partner didn’t have any
At 4am on the dot myself and my partner bolted up I ran to toilet with stomach cramps and upset stomach , as I went back through my partner started being sick and for the next 4 hours we took it in turns being sick and upset stomach. We were meant to be going to the zoo that day but obviously couldn’t do that and had the ordeal of a 3 hour drive back home , we had book breakfast as part of our stay but obviously didn’t go for breakfast , they brought up some toilet roll and wheatabix for our daughter as she was fine
Spoke with the manager in the morning who handled it well and was actually good to see they use an external company to investigate , we filled in forms of what we had eaten 48 hours before etc and the results were apparently as no one else that night who had the burger and calamari were sick and fact it had only been 7 hours from consumption they couldn’t guarantee it was their food.
I’m sure any educated person reading this will understand where our symptoms came from especially as at lunch she had avacado on toast and I had ceaser salad at another restaurant so completely different things , and if we had picked up a bug somewhere it’s wouldn’t have effected us at exactly 4 am that day The only compensation they were willing to offer was rebooking the zoo tickets which didn’t work as we went back down yesterday at our own expense as a day trip.
He offered a discount rate next time we came to which I obviously declined explaining I wouldn’t set foot in that hotel again. £380 for a sleepless. Night and food poising then living off dry toast for five days isn’t ideal. I leave very truthful reviews on here mostly very positive as we use this site before booking places but please be careful if you chose to book here, gambling...
Read moreOverall our experience was good but not great. The Malmaison Edinburgh City was convenient, comfortable, and clean but missed the mark in other ways.||It definitely gets high marks for convenience. There is an airport tram stop at the end of the block and it is a short walk up from Waverly station and the buses on Princes Street. Getting around Edinburgh from the hotel by public transportation is very easy. Also, there is a hop-on-hop-off bus stop just outside the hotel for the major tour companies. There are many restaurants and shops in the area and it is a short walk to Old Town and the Royal Mile. ||The room was more spacious than expected and the bed was very comfortable. There was a wardrobe for hanging clothes but no dresser or drawers for storage. There were some shelves but not enough for 2 people staying for a week. While the room was comfortable it was not very will lit. It made getting dressed more challenging than necessary. The bathroom mirror was not well lit either which made shaving more difficult but there was a lighted make up mirror. The bathroom had a warming towel rack that was on when we arrived and then off for a couple of days and then back on. We aren't huge fans of town warmers so it didn't matter but it was just unusual. Although it wasn't listed in the room description we thought we had discovered a mini-fridge in a cabinet under the desk but it turns out that it was only a cooler so the food we stored in it spoiled. It wasn't until we mentioned it to the front desk staff that they informed us it was only a cooler.||The hotel decor is very dark with dark walls, ceiling, and carpeting. There are some color accents but the overall palette is very dark. The hotel layout was somewhat confusing as well. It is built on a hill. The entrance, front desk, and restaurant are on the 4th floor and the bar is on the 3rd. One elevator serves the even numbered floors and the other the odd numbered floors. We were on the 7th floor so to take the elevator from the main level we had to walk up or down a flight of stairs to either the 3rd or 5th floor. Most of the time it was just easier to take the stairs. I would not recommend this hotel for someone with mobility issues. ||The staff was great. They were always very helpful and personable. We made a couple of small requests for things like more tissues and toilet paper and they were always...
