How can you go to Edinburgh and not have a posh meal at the dome! We had lunch in the grill room (the room with the bar in the middle and the dome above) we were greeted in the main hallway and were shown to our table quickly, they wanted to sit us next to a step however I’m way to clumsy for that so asked to be sat further in. We both had a glass of pinot and it was lovely. We ordered truffle & Parmesan fries as a starter to share the only down fall we had with the waiter was that he took our side plates even though we were going to be eating chips with cheese on and cheese that doesn’t really stick to the chips. So the side plates would have been helpful to keep. Mum grabbed some off another table as to not bother the waiter. The main courses I had the chicken breast with red cabbage and fondant potato with a carrot puree (small amount of carrot mash) which was lovely, the staff asked us 4 times if we had any dietary restrictions and because I had already scoured the menu I said no as I was safe to eat everything on my plate (thank the lord for a menu that tells you what is going to be on your plate) and to be honest nobody can really cater for FODMAP as it is so individual, so I just scour the menu and pick the safest option, I did ask if I could swap the cabbage for tenderstem broccoli as that came with the steak pie but the waiter said no which I found bizzare but ok, it was more of a preference thing as I’m not a huge fan of red cabbage but it was done nicely when it came so I was fine with it. mum opted for the steak pie which she said was the best steak pie she has had and considering our local butchers has the best steak pie to beat that is a first. When you book they take a £10 per person deposit which comes off your meal and the confirmation a couple of days before was good. The dome is a spectacular venue and we had the treat of seeing a young couple get engaged (well done lad you thought that out well) if you are visiting Edinburgh definitely make the dome a stop.

If I could give this more stars 🌟 I absolutely would. From the moment you arrive, you are blown away by its absolutely beautiful exterior that is magical with its Christmas lights and decorations. Walking in its like stepping into a Christmas film, just from floor to ceiling decorations and lights complimenting the historic features of the Dome really begging to be photographed... so ofcorse I did. We where dinning at the grill restaurant which is a cluster of tables surrounding the domes iconic tree. Sat at our seats all be it alittle cramped, it felt intimate and my seat was facing the whole place allowing be to soak in all its glory. Our waiter was an absolute pleasure to be served by, promptly offering us drinks and bread for the table. We had 2 courses and each one equally as brilliant and delicious as the next. Such an amazing experience I would absolutely recommend. Downside to being so amazing and magical was that there was an uncomfortable amount of tourists just walking about taking pictures. I felt it made the dome and dining area feel like a museum or something. Giving its grandeur, I was disappointed to see I was the only person to dress accordingly. There was alot of casual to scruffy guests who personally I felt could have made the effort the place deserves. All its staff are in suits and very professional and smart, which really helped add those fine details. I was in a long sparkling red dress and my partner a 3 peice suit, we had many guests and staff compliment making us feel like movie stars, it all in all really was a night ill never forget.

The Dome in Edinburgh is nestled in the heart of the city and boasts stunning architecture with exceptional Modern British cuisine. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the grandeur of the space. The high ceilings, intricate ceiling architecture, and amazing lighting were all overwhelming. I couldn’t stop looking up. For drinks, I opted for the Scotch Old Fashioned. I’m not a scotch person so this was ok. I tried. Give me credit. The lunch prefix menu offered an array of dishes. The sun-dried tomato salad was a refreshing surprise. I loved this take on a salad. The tomatoes were juicy and flavorful and the dressing was tangy. The highlight, however, was the seafood pie. This dish featured huge pieces of salmon and cod enveloped in a creamy sauce. Shepherd’s pie… look out! Instead of dessert, I got the cheese plate. The blue cheese was my favorite! It was light and crumbly. The Dome's site was originally home to the old Physicians’ Hall, built in 1775 by James Craig. The building cost far more than anticipated, leaving the College of Physicians in debt. Eventually, the Commercial Bank of Scotland bought it for £20,000 in 1843, demolished it and had it rebuilt Grace-Roman style. After several mergers, the building ceased to be a bank head office in 1959. In 1993, it was sold and transformed into The Dome, opening in 1996. Loved this lunch. If not to eat, just walk through.

The Corinthian columns and marble bars alone are enough to make this a fine dining atmosphere .But during the holidays, walking into the Neoclassical architecture of The Dome feels equivalent to walking into a Christmas movie. We were lucky enough to be in Edinburgh during the holiday season and were pleasantly surprised by the INSANE Christmas decorations. They go all out. The Georgian Tea Room is up on the second floor and they have a beautiful bar/restaurant area under the Dome downstairs. We ordered the afternoon tea package that comes with a sausage roll, sandwiches, scones, and cookies/cake. There are also vegetarian/vegan options! The quality of the food and tea was beyond expectations. The service was above & beyond. They are very organized & it gets busy so it’s refreshing to see how well the staff handled things. This is truly the place to live out your Downton Abbey dreams. After tea we grabbed a drink at the bar downstairs and appreciated the architecture of the Dome & of course more Christmas decorations. The building itself has so much history, it was originally owned by the Physicians Hall in the 1700s -- until they went into debt. It was then bought out by The Commercial Bank of Scotland. And eventually now a bar/restaurant/tea lounge for us mere commoners to enjoy. If you're in Edinburgh, I wouldn't miss the opportunity to check this place out!
