How can you go to Edinburgh and not have a posh meal at the dome! We had lunch in the grill room (the room with the bar in the middle and the dome above) we were greeted in the main hallway and were shown to our table quickly, they wanted to sit us next to a step however I’m way to clumsy for that so asked to be sat further in. We both had a glass of pinot and it was lovely. We ordered truffle & Parmesan fries as a starter to share the only down fall we had with the waiter was that he took our side plates even though we were going to be eating chips with cheese on and cheese that doesn’t really stick to the chips. So the side plates would have been helpful to keep. Mum grabbed some off another table as to not bother the waiter. The main courses I had the chicken breast with red cabbage and fondant potato with a carrot puree (small amount of carrot mash) which was lovely, the staff asked us 4 times if we had any dietary restrictions and because I had already scoured the menu I said no as I was safe to eat everything on my plate (thank the lord for a menu that tells you what is going to be on your plate) and to be honest nobody can really cater for FODMAP as it is so individual, so I just scour the menu and pick the safest option, I did ask if I could swap the cabbage for tenderstem broccoli as that came with the steak pie but the waiter said no which I found bizzare but ok, it was more of a preference thing as I’m not a huge fan of red cabbage but it was done nicely when it came so I was fine with it. mum opted for the steak pie which she said was the best steak pie she has had and considering our local butchers has the best steak pie to beat that is a first.
When you book they take a £10 per person deposit which comes off your meal and the confirmation a couple of days before was good.
The dome is a spectacular venue and we had the treat of seeing a young couple get engaged (well done lad you thought that out well) if you are visiting Edinburgh definitely make the...
Read moreMonumental from the outside, spectacular on the inside – The Dome never disappoints and is one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh! The restaurant is impressive with its service and stunning interior. It is large and accessible with a selection of rooms for different dining experiences, plenty of seating options, a substantial bar, private dining area, and a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere.
This historical landmark was originally built in the 18th century, and has been beautifully maintained with original Georgian architecture. The interior exudes decadence with beautiful bronze doors, decorative marble floors, crystal chandeliers, high ceilings, fluted columns, and a spectacular glass dome – its namesake - as the centerpiece.
The service was exceptional, consistently warm, attentive and professional. Our server, Wictoria, was delightful and incredibly thorough, and provided us with the perfect experience through menu explanations, wine recommendations and anticipating drink refills and dessert. Everything was perfectly timed, the table and cutlery were cleared between courses, and water refilled regularly.
The food was absolutely amazing with a comfort food meets fine dining feel. The portion sizes were good, beautifully plated, and everything we ordered was fresh, delicious and prepared to perfection. The menu was small, but they offered a great selection of items to choose from as well as a prix fixe menu option for pre dinner dining, and the price for the quality and experience was excellent. They also offer a great selection of wine and cocktails. We had the charcuterie and cheese board to start, tomato soup, free range chicken breast, steak pie with mashed potatoes and baked vanilla cheesecake with coconut ice cream. I LOVED the steak pie and the cheesecake! Highly recommend for the food, service, décor and...
Read moreDon’t pay for a reservation, it’s 10 GBP per person. There are open tables. Food is slightly above average. The only good/nice trait is the atmosphere. The bald older African doorman working was definitely elitist. Upon entering, he stopped my wife and I. He looked me up and down, and gave me a hassle cause I was wearing adidas track pants(we were walking all day seeing sights.) He said, “you want to come in here, wearing that?” He looked me up and down for a good 10 seconds said some other smirk things, and told me I should have made a reservation cause they are busy. I said, we didn’t know, and he ending up letting us in. I held my tongue upon entering cause my wife wanted to enter as we tourists. We entered, there were at least 5 open tables…Upon leaving I confronted him on our exchange, on not to judge a book by its cover, and to change his approach when talking to people in track pants. He reluctantly apologized, and didn’t realize I was wearing a 15k USD watch, (as I usually always hide it under my sleeve.) I flashed it(again which I never do,) and reminded him that I had 4 months of his pay on my wrist and his vibe changed. I also told him that I saw two other people in the building with track pants, and that there was 5 open tables when we entered and asked him if he gave the other people that much lip. He couldn’t come up with a answer and just said there was a dress code. After I told him to watch his tone when he speaks to people, and never judge a book it’s cover, I left. I looked on the website, no dress code, looked on trip advisor and even saw posts saying track suits were worn regularly there and were fine. I have a feeling if I pulled up in my BMW, or Mercedes, that stoppage would of never happened. Anyways, if you go, get some tea and enjoy the atmosphere, cause the food...
