Clementines Townhouse Hotel proved to be an unexpected haven during what can only be described as the toughest time in my life. After the sudden rush to York Hospital with my wife's medical emergency, followed by the daunting diagnosis of bowel cancer, I found myself in need of a place that was not just close to the hospital but also provided solace amidst the chaos.
From the moment I stepped through the doors of this quaint and beautiful hotel, I was met with warmth and understanding from the staff. Their unwavering support and flexibility in accommodating my last-minute needs made a world of difference during those dark days. They truly went above and beyond, offering comfort during moments of breakdown and uncertainty. For that, I am immensely grateful.
Despite the turmoil, I found myself occasionally needing sustenance to keep my strength up during the two weeks spent shuttling between the hotel and the hospital. The breakfasts served here were absolutely delicious.
My room, though small, exuded a cozy charm that provided a much-needed respite from the outside world. The only minor gripe I had was with the creaky flooring and occasional noise from neighbouring rooms, but in the grand scheme of things, these were minor inconveniences that could be overlooked. After all, such quirks are to be expected in old buildings with character.
The unique decor added to the hotel's charm, while the comfortable beds and plush pillows ensured a restful night's sleep. Additionally, the delightful scent of the bathroom shower gels added a touch of luxury to the experience, offering a moment of tranquillity amidst the chaos.
The one main downfall, especially considering the difficult and out of control predicament I was in, I found the daily parking fee quite high.
In conclusion, Clementines Townhouse Hotel not only provided a convenient and comfortable place to stay during a challenging time but also served as a beacon of light during the darkest days. To the compassionate staff who made it all possible, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. You made a difficult journey a little more bearable, and for that, I will always...

My partner and I stayed here recently, and overall, it was okay — but definitely not worth the price.
The location was good — around 15 minutes from the centre of York, so convenient for getting in and out of the city.
The service was polite and friendly enough, and staff did their best to help when needed.
Unfortunately, the room was the biggest letdown. We paid well over £100 per night for what was described as a “small double room,” but this was on another level — probably around 3m x 3m. The décor was lovely, but it felt like everything was designed to look nice rather than work properly. There was no fridge, the shower pressure was dreadful (and got even worse when anyone else used water), and the walls were so thin we could hear the neighbouring rooms all Saturday night.
Breakfast was fine, but portions were small, and you had to pay extra for simple things like eggs. Paying £15 to take the handwash felt steep, and on top of that, there’s a £15-per-night parking charge that wasn’t made clear on the Booking.com listing.
We also paid £35 for flowers (which were lovely and fair value), but £12 for six small truffle chocolates felt like poor value.
Overall, the place looks the part, but it doesn’t deliver on comfort or practicality. It’s okay at best, but far too expensive for what you actually get. If you’re over 15 stone, you’d probably even struggle to get into the bathroom comfortably — that’s how tight the space was. (See...
Read moreWe stayed here for a romantic night away and as we was off out to York for the Day/Evening, when we arrived we was greeted my a lovely lady (really sorry can not remember her name she was painting a table) & Dan, they made us feel really welcoming (even if I did disappoint him that we are not long lost relatives with having the same Surname 😂) he showed us to our room which was stunning! We had the room named The Matchmaker and it was incredibly comfy, quirky and luxurious all in one! (The Bathroom was just incredible 😍) we went out for the evening and when we came back we was greeted by the same girl who was outside looking after two of the local cats! Which made my day and stay even better loving cats myself! The sleep was great, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud, room was just the right temperature etc..(only comment is could you cover the green light, or have it so it does shine towards the bed area? only a little thing and did not spoil the stay, just very bright). We woke up and headed across for Breakfast was greeted by Dan and another Gentleman also very polite and attentive! The breakfast was really good and well worth the money, service and food was sublime, we checked out soon after with Dan which was easy to do, it was just very pleasant the whole way from start to finish! Dan is very much a credit to Clemetines! And we are putting you at our only place to stay when we come back to York again! Thank you for making our stay so...
