We spent 10 nights at Native Glasgow & these are our observations from that stay:
The kitchen is very well appointed with all the utensils you require to cook a full meal. There is a Sainsbury, Tesco & Marks and Spencer close at hand for provisions. We had breakfast in our room each morning which proved to be a solid start to the day. Should you not want to brew your own coffee or tea there is a Gregg's & Costa coffee close by in George Square. The bed, mattress, duvet & sheets are first quality. We slept well each night. This is certainly not the fault of the hotel but there is beer keg pick up & delivery most mornings in the lane. So it can be a tad noisy. A kitchen table, two chairs, couch & writing table fill out the room nicely. The layout is generally good. A fifth floor and above room facing George Square provides good sun. The bathroom is very functional with a high quality shower head. Good pressure & gets hot quickly. You likely know this when booking but be aware that housekeeping is weekly. We had a 10 day stay so we had it after the 5th day. Do not let this be a concern however. The front desk will provide you with fresh towels & toilet paper at anytime. The reception desk is available for your needs 24 hours a day. Be aware that George Square is going to be under construction until 2027. The Native is in a tremendous location for touring the city. There are 100's of cafes, pubs, bars & restaurants within 500 m of the hotel. During our stay we only took ride share once. The bus from the airport will drop you off one block away & to get back to the airport the stop is in front of the hotel. Subway & buses are just a block away. During our stay we could easily walk or run to visit the vast majority of galleries & museums. To get to the parks further afield the bus system is very efficient. We felt very secure at The Native. To get into our room we needed to pass through 3 doors requiring our card fob.
A couple suggestions:
A safe in the room would be welcomed. A couple hooks at the door would be useful. Hotel room designers seem to have a distate for hooks. They don't destroy the aesthetic. It would be useful if there was a system to dispose of garbage. Yes, I realize we could take it to the front desk (but I don't expect reception to deal with my rubbish). Granted, we were there for 10 nights.
And if you have read this far, I have saved the best for the last. The Natives (as the staff refer to themselves) are terrific. No, they're fantastic. David, the hotel manager has hired extremely well. We received charming, humourous, knowledgeable & accommodating service from Iain, Joseph, Valeriia & Giorgi. As I mentioned to David, hire people for their people skills & you can teach them the hotel skills. Believe me, they will take good...
Read moreThis is the best stay we could have had in Glasgow. This is a detailed review, because my experience was unlike most tourists. I reserved the hotel from their official website, in two separate bookings. The reasons to do this was to try out two different room types on two different days. In the 26th, we were in the Studio room, which was very spacious for a stuido. It has all the amenities, including iron boards and kitchen utensils (every single thing one might need in a kitchen), hair dryers, kettle, toaster and what not. The room was air conditioned, and the toilet and the bathing area was very well lit, full of bathroom consumables, clean and spotless, well equipped with storage space and a beautiful and roomy walk-in shower. The view from the room was quite proportionate as well, but the windows did not open. However, there was enough ventilation, and the central heating works just as good for hot and cold weathers.
We spoke to the receptionist, Ian, about the arrangement of the two nights two different rooms, and he said it was not going to be an issue. They are going to try to make the room ready as early as possible. So we checked out from the studio at 12 noon (was extended by an hour) and we were moved into the new room immediately. Joseph, the other persons at the reception managed to give us the room 3 hours earlier before usual check in time. This was amazing news as we were prepared to wait while the room is getting ready. This room was a one bedroom penthouse with a terrace. And when I say terrace, it's not just a small tiny balcony but rather a gigantic viewpoint of the city. This penthouse had every single amenities of the studio room mentioned earlier and more. It also had a fully functioning kitchen, and a washer dryer. This was very convenient as at this point of our trip we had some laundry to do. But, the terrace, one entry was from the bedroom side, and the other was from the living room side. The terrace also had chairs and tables, ideal for hanging out with friends with a picturesque view of the historic monuments. We were so devoured into this penthouse and its views that we extended our stay by one extra night on the spot. We will definitely be returning.
It felt like home, away from home. The genuine hospitality of Ian and Joseph made our trips. They even stored our luggage in the reception after checkout so that we could move around luggage free before our...
Read moreThe negatives- Unappealing entry and reception area. One tiny elevator (that we found anyway). Very loud fire and room doors banging constantly. A lot of street/alley noise until the wee hours (dumping massive loads of glass). Uncomfortable sofa bed. Non functioning washer/dryer in unit. All in one washer-dryers on the floor took forever and never dried clothes. Spent nine hours - quite a bit of time on google reading the appliance manual, ironing and using the hair dryer on clothes to help them dry so we didn’t have to wear pyjamas on the plane, and yet still had sopping wet clothes a few hours later to pack in our suitcases to take home. One of our suitcases was overweight from all the Scottish water we unwillingly imported home! Everything in all our suitcases got damp and smelly, and we had a real mess when we got home. DONT DO YOUR LAUNDRY HERE! |But…|The room (premium one bedroom) was lovely and so well equipped. Had a great layout with a large entry. Lots of closets and storage. Bright, massive windows. Lights and power outlets everywhere, plus lots of USB charging ports. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. Main bed and pillows nice and comfy. Lots of chairs and tables, plus a desk/make up table with mirror in the bedroom. Very nice big, bright bathroom. Everything very clean. The location simply can not be beat. |The most notable thing about this hotel though, is the staff. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, with lots of smiles and helpful advice. Really reinforced Glasgow as a super friendly place to visit. Special thanks to the fellow working the night shift (sorry I totally forget his name) on Friday Sept 12 to Sat Sept 13 who did everything in his power to assist with the "great laundry debacle". Despite the unsuccessful outcome, he really went out of his way to try to fix the situation, even offering to do our laundry himself. Excellent customer service. (But now go fix...
