The food itself is the selling point of miller & carter. We arrived an hour early for our booking & we were accommodated which was brilliant. We were a party of 4 and celebrating a special occasion. We ordered starters each & 2 x sharing steak platters. Firstly our starters were amazing & our service from our server Kevin was excellent. Our drinks were quick to arrive (a bottle of wine) which was poured for us at the table. Kevin was very pleasant. After our starters we received new cutlery & our salad wedge bowls came out. We ate these and put all our bowls together along with our used cutlery. The steak boards came out by a girl we hadn’t seen before (runner). She had blonde hair I didn’t catch her name, young. We waited 5 minutes for plates and new cutlery and also for our used bowls to be taken. By the time we got to our steaks they weren’t as hot as they would have been if we had been given plates before they had come out. There was a girl on the table beside us (runner) who brought a platter out with plates and cutlery prepared. She also informed customers beside us what cut of steak was what. Kevin then came over to advise he was changing over and Donna would be looking after us. Finally when we got round to eating, we enjoyed the food. When Donna came over to clear our plates when we finished she asked how it was. I explained to her the issue with plates & cutlery, I even made an excuse and said I understand it may be because of the service cross over that it isn’t normal to be waiting 5 minutes on plates and cutlery. She said that she was sorry BUT if we’d been before we should know that we should keep our cutlery we used for our salad wedge…. Not great customer service to be quite honest. I feel disappointed with the service Donna & the runner gave. It was a big let down especially when we paid over £250 for our meal and drinks. Not really 5* service blaming customers is it.
Big shout out to the young girl with dark hair that was running tables beside us, she was brilliant and very pleasant & also to the hosts who are very pleasant on arrival &...
Read moreMy partner and I were celebrating our first anniversary and she had been given a £100 Miller and Carter gift voucher for her birthday a few months ago. Neither of us had been before and were buzzing to try the Glasgow restaurant.... When we walked in it looked amazing, busy too. Our waitress Hannah was so lovely, talked us through the menu and was honestly the best! 10/10 Hannah! 👏👏 Right, onto the food now....
My Girlfriend had the ribeye, medium rare, it came just as ordered, thickest ribeye I've ever seen! Even though it was thick, it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The 2 macaroni cheese were also superb, the sauteed veg, carrots rock hard... Onto my T-bone steak... I was so looking forward to this, my go to steak wherever I go, home or abroad.
I was so disappointed.... I ordered my steak medium rare, as recommended... it came medium well done, I could hardly cut it..... I'm 60 and have never returned, or complained about a meal in my life! Unfortunately, I had to ask the lovely Hannah to replace it.
She was so apologetic, not her fault at all! She quickly returned with a replacement, cooked just as I asked.... the fillet side was perfect but the sirloin side was impossible to cut on one half, and quite tough on the other... I didn't want to say anything, so ate as much as I could. When the bill came, it was £119, our voucher was for £100 and Hannah asked them to drop the additional charge, and also gave us a lovely sweet to share! Such a lovely gesture! 👌
In summary, you go to a steak house for steak.... Heather's was one of the best I've tasted, mine was the worst T-bone I've ever had, and I include places in Spain and Turkey in this!!!
Thank you so much for everything Hannah, you are a wee star.... but sorry, we won't see you again, because we won't be back.
Too much choice in Glasgow to be disappointed with a sub-standard steak! Apart from that, everything else was great, such a shame the chefs couldn't even get it right at the second...
Read moreThis is the first time I am not writing a five star review for a restaurant, which I genuinely regret as I had high hopes for our visit.
We reserved a table for a celebration and were looking forward to a lovely evening. The restaurant is set in a beautiful historic building and the atmosphere is charming. The staff at the reception were warm and welcoming, and Eva, who was looking after our table, was lovely. She had a cheerful smile and was friendly throughout the evening, which we really appreciated.
The starter was excellent and set a high benchmark for the rest of the meal. The steak we ordered was fine, though I must admit I was expecting a richer flavour, especially as it was a 50 day aged cut. The red wine, however, paired nicely with the steak, and the desserts were very enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the overall experience was let down by one particular member of staff responsible for clearing and setting the table between courses. He was extremely unprofessional. Rather than setting the cutlery properly on the table, he handed it directly to guests. Similarly, when the dishes arrived, he passed them to us instead of placing them down, which felt both impolite and awkward. He did not say a word throughout the service apart from a single "finished?" This was not just a one-off moment either, as I noticed he behaved the same way with other tables as well during the evening of 25th June.
I understand the restaurant may have been especially busy due to graduation celebrations, and perhaps he was struggling or under pressure. If that were the case, it would have been helpful to be informed. I genuinely do not wish to be harsh, but at a renowned restaurant like this, a higher standard of service is expected.
There were some very good aspects of the evening, and I do hope this feedback is taken constructively. With a few improvements in service, I believe the experience could match the lovely setting and...
