I want to start by saying wow! And here's why. I found myself needing a room here in town so I asked my friend to take me over to tramway and central. I said I didn't want to stay at the desert's hands cuz I didn't I heard some not so nice stuff there so we went on by. We went to two other establishments and found ourselves standing at about 10 minutes at each one and nobody coming to help us I don't if I got a part with my heart and money I sure don't want to stand around waiting for somebody to give it to. So I said okay well let's go to desert sands and try it. We went in there the gentleman behind the desk his name is Chris I'm very nice pleasant smile I explained to him my situation and my story is not exactly perfect but it didn't matter to Chris cuz he was extremely accommodating with no problems whatsoever. Well we got in the vehicle and it took a slow minute for the gate to open so we can go in but that's okay and let me know parking lot. Open the room and wow it was big nice well furnished and smelled wonderful that bed so comfortable and it was all mine great big even if you tossed and turned all night you wouldn't make it all the way across the bed by morning that's how large it was and it felt great on my back. Well I was all settled in I found I needed some ice later so I came to the office and that's when I met Angie I didn't really need anything but the ice but she was so accommodating her smile so pleasant and she said if I need anything please just let her know and she meant it I could tell. If you get a chance to meet the head of security Dave say hi everybody looks up to Dave just be careful you don't hurt your neck doing so the only way to get in here is through the gate with your vehicle or to go to the office I guess you could jump the fence but Dave sure looks like he's very athletic so I wouldn't suggest anybody doing that he's going to catch you. It was quiet here it's a nice family place it's nothing like it used to be desert sands I think they should change your names to the new desert sands cuz it's definitely a lot newer a lot better you want a mini vacation come stay here overnight you get a lot of rest and the people are so pleasant you'll enjoy yourself go to the desert sands just wanted everybody to...
Read moreThis hotel allows pets for better or for worse. This Inn is gated so there's a good sense of security. The room we received was okay. The restroom was very small and the bathtub had some questionable stains-- from what I assume was red or orange hair dye. The sink had a complimentary bar of soap that was already used before I arrived, and that bar was pretty filthy-- I would have preferred the bar to have been tossed and replaced. I was a bit caught off guard that they didn't throw the bag of trash that accumulated in the restroom's trash can, it was simply tied off and left inside the can when I arrived. I was only here for a single night to see a concert at the Isleta Amphitheater so all in all, I got a warm shower and a place to lay my head-- that was all I needed. If I had more money at my disposal, I probably would have chose another hotel altogether if I can be entirely honest. Previous reviews mention that the bed frames are noisy and it is true, it seems that the beds are on metal platforms so that when you toss and turn-- you hear the metal platform loudly making hollow-like sounds underneath you so it does take some getting used to. I did unfortunately find someone's hair on the sheets under the comforter that didn't belong to me, but when I had discovered it-- I was much too tired to fuss about it since I had gotten back from the concert. One thing I have to commend is that when I left something behind by accident, the staff held it for me at the reception desk after I called and requested them to find it for me-- I really did appreciate that, I've stayed at a luxurious hotel before in which they KEPT my lost items so it was a pleasant surprise that I got back what I lost from this Inn. Essentially, if you're looking for a rather underwhelming place where you can get some rest, take a shower, and use the toilet--...

Desert Sands Inn & Suites – Albuquerque, NM
I’ve really enjoyed my stay here. What stands out most is the security and protection for your vehicle—the entrance is gated, and the property has a horseshoe-style drive that exits through a secured automatic gate. It’s one of the few places on Central where you can actually feel at ease leaving your car overnight. They have cameras everywhere and a visible security presence, many of whom appear to be ex-military. That level of professionalism shows.
Another unique aspect is that some of the workers live on-site, which gives the place a community feel that’s rare for a hotel. The staff has been fantastic—from maintenance to cleaning to management. Everyone’s respectful and responsive. Housekeeping was excellent.
Yes, it’s in a tough part of town—but this place is like a secure little island off Central Avenue. I’ve met some great tenants, and I felt safe the whole time. The building itself is solid cinder block construction, and personally, I really love the architecture—there’s something strong and old-school about it.
Plus, you’re walking distance to:
McDonald’s
Gas station
Domino’s
UPS Store
Sprouts grocery store
Smith’s grocery store
And you get quick highway access too.
Update: A few nights ago, there was a sink overflow situation in one of the rooms, and I witnessed the housekeeping team respond quickly, efficiently, and with real care. They handled the water cleanup fast and were incredibly helpful in assisting the guests—fresh towels, clean floors, and a respectful presence the entire time. That kind of response tells you everything you need to know about the people running this place. I’m telling you—I love this hotel.
Bravo...
