Today me and my wife went in looking for some of the beautiful plastic tiles we had seen hanging in the alleys of Old Town. We saw some in the shop and i pointed to them and asked the store attendant if "those tiles were for sale" searching for clarification she pointed to the colorful plastic rectangles and said "you want those? Bc those are not tiles, tiles are made out of cermaic" Yes I said, are those for sale (getting annoyed at the lecture I am being given on tiles and ceramics. She proceeds to help my wife pick out the item. During this my wife who is Native American and appreciates cultures, asks, "so what are they called?" She says something in Spanish and my wife tried to immitate, the attendent was frustrated and made my wife feel dumb for not being able to pronounce the word in spanish very well. My wife then asks what is the meaning in English? The attendant never responded. We paid and left the store not satisfied with our experience. We went next door to look at the mirrors and other decor. Well immediately the store attendant from plaza gifts apparently left her own store and went to this store. She didnt know we were in the store next door and proceeded to trash talk us to the next store owner, in the middle of the store Destiny Martinez (thats the name she gave us anyways) proceeded to call us ignorant and make fun of us to the other store owner. This store owner sympathized and said of all things on Easter. When the store owner asked Destiny if we bought the item, we stepped out into the open of the store and said yes we did. Destiny quickly went back to her store where we confronted her about her comments. She was unapologetic, would not return the item, and said we were rude first and deserved the treatment and comments from her (After spending $30 at the store!). We are not tourists, we are locals, and I am very disappointed the owner was not around to speak with. Destiny's actions were deplorable for an employee, at least trash customers in the back room not out on a store floor. After I speak to the owner I may update this review, until then I will never purchase another item from their store or the one next door, I will also advise against purchases from visitors and locals alike. If Destiny is working run away she will leave you regretting your...
Read moreAt first, this place was my favorite to stop at in Old Town. I’d bring any visiting family and friends there and would give them plenty of business. One day while there in April, the cashier followed me around and was incredibly rude. It’s as if she felt threatened that myself or my family would take something. I proceeded to give them $150+ in merchandise sales, and chalked it up to her having a bad day and being in an unsafe area. I went again this past week, again with the intent to make a large purchase. I noticed the same employee (older woman, long grayish hair) was following me again. I went to put what I had in my hands back because at this point, she’s making a good paying customer feel like a criminal. She literally ran after me and when I placed the two tubs of chilles back in the El Pinto section and she realized I’m obviously not stealing, she quickly turned the other way so I wouldn’t catch her. Fortunately my husband and father watched the entire situation unfold. NEVER EVER will I or my family go back. We’re good customers who have given this store HUNDREDS of dollars. It’s not fair to feel harassed by an employee when I have given them NO reason to feel suspicious of me. If the business is that worried about people stealing, perhaps additional cameras would be more welcoming than following customers around in an incredibly uncomfortable...
Read moreA little confused about the negative comments below: it's a gift shop right on the Plaza, folks - of course it's overpriced. If you want reasonable prices - skip the trip to Abq Old Town and get it online; if you want the experience of bringing home a souvenir you got in a historic building hung with gorgeous ristras and right where the action is - you'll pay a premium. The "No Returns Accepted" sign looms large right over the register. I, for one, always bring out-of-town guests by, and they love it. The staff are extremely pleasant and friendly, and there's something here...
