The Bethany Tavern — Restaurant in Allen

First time I went I was blown-away by a really great new grass band. Second and subsequent times the music has been sub-par: Tired metal or country bands. This is a huge city with many talented musicians. There is no excuse for bad music. Yes, smoking is allowed but they keep the place well ventilated. Plenty of seats around the bar - good luck getting the bartenders to wait on you, though. Now for the really bad: I wouldn't go here on a weeknight. My husband and I did, and were essentially accosted by an incredibly drunk young man. He would wander to our table, stand staring at us without saying anything, then ask for a beer or money or who knows.. We asked him to please leave us alone more than once. He would just move onto his next table of "victims" until he made his rounds back to us. Third time my husband was forced to stand up and threaten the guy. The bartenders came to his rescue and escorted him out of the door. Then they explained this guy is a "regular" and it's wasn't an isolated occurrence. They explained that they are more a neighborhood bar during the week? Ok, so with drunk guy out of our faces my husband decides to sing karaoke. Puts in 3-4 requests...takes the DJ in charge of karaoke forever to call him...sometimes calling the same people 2-3 times before he got to my husband. Then, he turned my husband's mic down so low you couldn't hear and went outside. It was on purpose. The obnoxious drunk guy was his friend and apparently he was still hanging around outside, so every time my husband sang this DJ abandoned his post and went outside. Wow. Super...

We love this place! The owners are super friendly and work just as hard as their employees! We go about once a month for the karaoke nights and have a blast. It is a smoking bar, so if this bugs you, it might not be your spot. We "quit" about a year ago but still love being able to vape inside and while still enjoying our drinks. This is also not a sit down restaurant, so don't expect a host or table service. You have to go to the bar and order. They offer some great food, and (once ordered) will deliver to you when done. This really is your classic dive bar and the people here are so friendly, staff and patrons alike. We went for my bachelorette party and for New Year's, and everyone had a good time. We have made so many friends here and love the atmosphere. I know my husband would prefer it be a Cowboys bar, but that's something he can take up with them lol. Drinks are cheap, always busy, karaoke Friday, two pools tables, ans a slot machine. Somehow, this place in Allen has cultivated the feel of a dive bar from Balch Springs without (almost none at least) the trashy people or trashy restrooms. Only place in Collin County you can still smoke at as far as I know (Thor bless you previously named 'Dirty Rooster' for this), and while that used to mean I had to be ready to stink afterwards, now with above referenced type of customers blowing dragon-like (read: attention begging) storms of vape steam alongside the few of former high school cheerleaders and football players from the 80's still blowing smoke with cigarettes you can get at the VENDING MACHINE by...
