Mi Cocina is a good Tex-Mex restaurant. They have all the usual suspects: nachos, queso, guacamole, and more to choose from as starters, a full bar with a wide variety of drinks, and everything from fajitas and enchiladas to tacos and burritos. The menu reads like any Tex-Mex place, and the quality does not disappoint.
I came with a group of friends and ordered the poblano chicken enchiladas. My friends ordered beef fajitas and an enchilada dinner. My meal was good, and well worth the $15. However, my friend was disappointed with the portion size on the beef fajitas, and commented on it being overpriced. I think there are Tex-Mex and Mexican food places where you go and get large, generous portions of food, and there are places that are more fancy, where they give you a few strips of meat for the same price. Mi Cocina is more of the fancy experience, which was not what my friend expected.
I think overall the ambiance, service, and food quality at Mi Cocina are all quite good. And for the quality, the price seems fair to me. Just keep in mind that if you're used to Tex-Mex places like Tino's where they give you huge portions, this is a little different.
Restrooms were clean.
There was no wait for a table when we arrived at dinner time, but it was also a week night. The bar was surprisingly active for a Monday, and while we didn't hangout at the bar, it seemed like a lively crowd.
No military discount!
Overall, Mi Cocina is a nice Tex-Mex place, and I like it a lot. I'd definitely suggest checking them out if you're at Watters Creek in Allen and feel like having some classy Tex-Mex. The outdoor seating is fantastic when the weather...
Read moreI was so pleased to see fish on the menu! I have gained weight after covid and can't get it off so I've been avoiding Tex-Mex for 3 years, lol. But my sister and I were meeting for lunch and she had a very long drive in from the country so I let her pick the restaurant. I figured I'd find something light on the menu but this fish - it was absolutely delicious! But let me start at the beginning. I joined my sis who was already seated in a booth. It was early, not even 12pm on a Friday. The restaurant was not yet filling up, so I wondered why it took a few minutes for anyone to come to our table. When Jairo finally did, he apologized, so I let him off the hook. :) He asked if we'd like something to drink and I chose the Italian Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio $13. It was very good. I only found one type of fish on the menu, which I thought strange but was eager to try something refreshing in this heat. My sis ordered her 'usual' salad, which looked really good - lots of green lettuce but she said they forgot the avocado. It was topped with fajita meat and she loves it. But was still disappointed about the lack of avocado. My dish was perfect. The rice was awesome, it was NOT plain white rice, I forgot what it was but I loved it. The fish was cooked perfectly and the vegetables - oh my goodness! Unfortunately - or fortunately in this case, I never eat all my food, so I had enough to take home for later. I usually eat Tex-Mex in a Latin restaurant but this fish will be my go-to for next time. My compliments to the chef and Jairo was great! We liked the scan to pay option - less work for Jairo, I hope. He is an...
Read moreAm writing this again, as original review seems to have gone to black hole. My point is this, if I am sufficiently incensed to write all of this a second time, then the management needs to review this Went to Mi Cocina on a Sunday afternoon. Was going to meet friends, however, friends had notarrived yet, so went to bar inside. Margaritas were excellent. Bartender was excellent. Friends arrived, had dog, so decided to move to outside patio. I still was finishing margarita that I had ordered earlier, so tabbed out at bar, then told bartender I would be moving to outside patio. Friends arrived, and we were promptly ignored for 20 minutes. Person serving table next to us, which consisted of a family, was red beard, red head. Not once, during the 20 minutes, did he say"I will be with you in a moment".. Or better, " if you move to certain table ( station) , I can serve you " , ( source: I was former service staff myself back in day). We wound up leaving after I finished my margarita. Whoever owns place, your patio staff needs more training, as ignoring a paid customer is not the answer. Also, another gentlemen in blue shirt( wait staff) seated other party, and did not acknowledge us either. Your staff outside patio seriously needs some courtesy training. The $$ spent there on margaritas.. Which were the highlight of afternoon.. Also, with the chips were the best I had tasted in a Mexican restaurant in awhile as well, too bad the service on the back patio wasn't up to par. Would only recommend...
