I struggle to give Aloft Alpharetta four stars, but in fairness it deserves more than three. Short version - if you are a millennial upwardly mobile professional, you will probably OMG LOVE this hotel. It's got a stylish facade with neon, a really nice bar area, outdoor seating with cool nesting plastic tables and chairs reminiscent of toys from the 70's and 80's, bright plastic ice buckets that scream "Target" and an interior decoration sense that screams "not your parent's hotel." However, if you are looking for an affordable place in the Alpharetta area that offers the expected amenities in a mid-class hotel, you are going to have a couple rude surprises. First, location is great, just off the 400 in one of the area's ubiquitous shopping centers with a Starbucks within (brisk) walking distance. There are several other mid-upscale eateries within walking distance. Staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms had one of the ONLY king-sized beds I could find in area hotels, a must for the wife and I. And it's pet friendly. A no-nonsense room is decorated in minimalist, tech-forward style with a huge wall-mount TV, numerous charging stations, and a small desk and chair. Oh, and a bean bag. This all sounds great, and it is from a purely aesthetic standpoint. From a standard appointments and service perspective, the luster begins to fade. First, there is no in-room microwave, though with a plethora of meal choices within walking distance, any self-respecting biz pro has no need of that and is probably more interested in the Monday night $5 martini special. There is a refrigerator, though it's awkwardly shoved underneath the kitchen sink (pictured), likely as either an afterthought or to fulfill some sort of contractual obligation. The basin sink is oh-so-chic but it's also mounted nearly against the wall rather than centered on the counter, making middle-of-the-night trips to the sink less than intuitive as one tries to find the off-center tap while also avoiding stubbing one's toes on the aforementioned refrigerator. Room/cleaning service, at least on our trip was sub-par. We arrived at around 8 p.m. and left to visit friends. We were surprised when we returned to our room at about 11 p.m. to find that it had been cleaned. We were briefly impressed until the following day we had no no room service at all and had to call downstairs for coffee packets and towels. Then, to add insult to injury, room service knocked on the door at 9 a.m. on the day we were checking out. I can see absolutely no reason why room service would arrive first thing in the morning to a room they knew was checking out - unless they have zero communication and coordination. I suspect that this was the case. You can certainly make your own decisions as to how Aloft Alpharetta might suit your hotel needs. As for the wife and I, will will certainly not be returning, but rather will look for a hotel that places customer service and functionality over "style" and...
Read moreWe asked twice when booking this stay to have two rooms that were connected, so that my elderly Mother would be able to stay alone but still where we were near if she needed us. Twice we were told it would be an adjoining room. When we arrived we were told that was not possible but the rooms where on the same floor. We went to see the rooms and they were on opposite ends of the hall. We went back down to tell them that would not work and asked if we could cancel one room without penalty. They agreed and we all stayed in one room. Unfortunately, that room was for the handicapped. At this point... we still have both rooms charged to our credit card and a $25 charge in addition. I'm not sure if this will straighten out over the next few days as the credit card processes everything. In this room the electric blinds would not raise and lower without being manually forced. The handicapped shower had a curtain that stopped at least 10" above the floor and the entire bathroom floor was flooded every time someone took a shower. In addition, the shower head was very low (obviously for someone handicapped) but did have the ability to be raised. Sadly, it was broken and would not stay up and fell forward so that it only sprayed the wall. It was basically impossible to take a shower. I wish we had been told that this was a room setup for a handicapped person. We also went down to ask if there should be a clock in the room. We were told they didn't have clocks but could give us a wake-up call. We didn't need a wake-up call, we needed to know what time it was. The last problem was the "master" light switch. It is ridiculous that you have one switch for everything in the room. Why can't the bathroom light turn on without the bright lights over the bed area coming on as well? It was impossible for someone to use the restroom, dress, shower, etc and someone sleep at the same time. The only thing positive I can say about this hotel is the lady working the night we checked in was very kind and did everything possible to make a bad situation more bearable. Unfortunately, most everyone else barely spoke as you walked in and out of the hotel. This was our first and last...
Read moreI arrived at the Aloft Marriott Bonvoy Hotel early on Friday, February 17 and was greeted by General Manager, Chris Spears. Beautiful, European style lobby with bright colors and open spaces. Angel, front desk clerk, assigned me to Room 218. Carlos, housekeeper/maintenance worker, loaded my bags on a cart. I gave Carlos $10 (ten dollars). We proceeded to the elevator. Carlos had my room key. I gave him my car key and asked him to park my car. There was a bad order in the room I thought was from Carlos. Carlos brought my car keys back. I sprayed the room with my Lysol. Smell was not noticeable in the bathroom. I went downstairs to the bar. Returned to room. Got undressed and got in bed. The smell was in the bed. I fell asleep and woke up coughing violently around 3am. Juliana, 19-year old night auditor, agreed to change me to Room 216. However, she was the only person working and she couldn't leave the front desk. I had to stay in the smelly room until Dominique came to move me at 7:30am. When Dominique came to Room 218, she said, "I SMELL IT!" Dominique rushed me out of Room 218 to my new Room 216. Dominique helped me to my car so I could drive to Wellstar North Fulton Emergency Department where I tested positive for COVID-19. Today is Day 10 of being infected with COVID-19 at the Aloft Marriott Bonvoy Hotel in Alpharetta GA. My case # is 429 646 235. Marriott Corporate has escalated my case to risk management and the legal department. Chris Spears, General Manager at the Aloft in Alpharetta is 28 years old with only 5 years with the Marriott Corporation. He's not trained to run the Aloft Hotel. The bartender is also 28 years old. It appears Chris Spears has hired his inexperienced friends to staff housekeeping, bar and his friend JP at the front desk. I expect Reparations for what the incompetence of Chris Spears fid to me at the Aloft Marriott Bonvoy Hotel, 7895 North Point Parkway,...
