I’m sorry to do this.
I very rarely write a scathing 17 paragraph review but this dump demanded it.
First, the staff are kind, considerate and overall really were a pleasure to work with. The front desk girls were quick and efficient and processed an over email card and verification quickly. The breakfast was pretty good with fresh cheese and salsa to go with fresh scrambled eggs served by a pleasant woman behind the counter.
when requesting my refund I specifically offered to pay $10.00 out of the room charge to compensate for the personal touch at breakfast that was a bit of a surprise at this place.
Breakfast above average, The rest was a true and total mess.
Exterior:
The place is huge. Too huge. Hundreds of rooms, but it’s such an old building the owners cant justify much more than $50/night with a straight face....and $50/night apparently just isn’t enough to maintain the rooms.
Inordinate level of construction activity...Marriott next door getting a full remodel done means there are a LOT of construction vehicles, dumpsters, dirt , debris, etc. hunting for parking at 1 am I found myself on dirt and broken up chunks of asphalt. Driving around the entire facility gave me the strong impression that I should not leave anything in my car overnight. Which was a pain.
Ugh...Cool no problem I’ll just move my entire car full of stuff from the living room to the bedroom. No worries it’s 1 am and I just drove around the building twice, and looked through this entire place once already to find my room (before moving everythingg from my car) I don’t mind.
The WiFi exists...I mean...it’s not usable at all with half a bar connectivity. But it exists.
Interior:
I couldn’t find the room. I stay at 50+ hotels / motels / year I’m pretty proficient at room finding but they’re all numbered weird. They go from 100 to 140 to 405 to 215.
The room: I stayed in room #405. The front doors looked like they were maybe once interior residential French doors? Definitely not the secure, commercial grade heavy doors that ....every? Other hotel I’ve stayed in recent memory had. Would I even want these thin glass sidelights with curtains on my front door at home? I guess, maybe. Probably not. But definitely I don’t want a thin door with thin glass sidelights on my motel room door. Definitely not.
If my fiancé were with me she 100% doesn’t stay, just on account of the lack of safety from these flimsy doors. What if one of the construction workers outside comes in to grab coffee at the breakfast bar and gets some ideas peaking through the curtains of my front door windows, seeing my laptop phone and cash on the living room counter in the entry?
Do I sound like a condescending whiny little brat? I’m not. I leave negative reviews like ultra rare and always offer the owners the opportunity to make it right before I ever do. I own a company myself and I know how important the online reviews are.
The room was surprisingly spacious. I don’t know why? It was only $50 maybe it was the last one available. Living room and bedroom with a full bath.
I didn’t sleep one single moment in the 5 hours that I tried. the fan made an incessant creeping with every single turn. The in-unit Ac was so loud I eventually tried having it off but the room was unbearable so...I don’t...what do you? Lay in a quiet sweat or try to sleep in a cool aircraft hanger? The faucet in the bathroom was literally not more than a drip. Literally. Fully turned on. Drip. Drip. The room smelled awful. Like...mildew from the indoor pool that’s 30 feet from the room or an Abandoned elderly living center.
Bottom line, I may sound picky but, again, I’m really not. If I just had a damn cold bed to sleep in and running water the rest is a wash. but that lumpy $3 pillow really was the last straw.
I was first to breakfast after not sleeping. So there is that. Never to bed is early to rise. As they say.
I’m sorry. It is the truth. Save yourself the headache. Head on...
Read moreWe sent the following letter to the hotel management and to the parent corporation, and surprisingly, never received a response. I'm not sure if the overpowering odor of mildew was the worst part, or if it was the graffiti in the dresser drawers.
The letter:
On the night of April 19, 2010, my husband and I stayed at your hotel. We did not have a reservation, and we were attracted by the large, flashing sign we say from the highway. It advertised rooms starting at $39.99, free hot breakfast, and indoor pool. We were pleasantly surprised by the large, attractive atrium just beyond the registration desk in the lobby.
As the desk clerk checked in the guest ahead of us, we watched the slideshow on the large flat screen TV behind the desk. The slideshow advertised the highlights of the hotel’s newly renovated rooms. When our turn came, the desk clerk told us that those rooms started at $59.99, but a room that had not yet been renovated would be $49.99. rate. We assume that the difference between the advertised $39.99 rate and what we were charged is the difference between a one-person rate and a two-person rate, but no one bothered to explain this to us.
We opted to take our chances with the lower-priced room. We reasoned that we were only staying for one night after a long drive, and we were mostly just interested in a good night’s sleep. We fully understood that we would not be enjoying one of the newly renovated rooms as shown in the slideshow, but, we asked ourselves, “How bad could it be?”
We were soon to learn the answer to that question.
We were assigned to room #150, a room at the very end of the hallway, next to the exterior door, in the back of the hotel. As we entered the hotel through this door, we noticed that the carpeting had been removed, and we were walking on bare floor. Further up the hall, there was carpeting, but, for some reason, the last 20 feet or so had been removed. Trying not to speculate on why this had been necessary, we opened the door to our room. Again, we were not expecting to see a newly renovated room, but we had still expected better quality for the price.
The room had a strong smell of mildew and pet odor. The bedsheets, although not visibly dirty in the dim light, had at least one cigarette burn. Speaking of cigarette burns, our designated non-smoking room had several such burns on the furniture. We were pleased that free wireless internet access was available, but, while looking for an electrical outlet to use, we discovered that the outlet behind the bed did not have a cover plate to cover the wires. Likewise, there was no protective guard over the heater element and fan in the bathroom. The bathtub faucets did not fully close, causing not an intermittent drip, but small, steady stream of water the whole time we were there.
Although displeased with the room, we did not make a complaint to the front desk. We knew that all of the problems could not be easily fixed, and we did not want to take our chances with different room, which could potentially be worse than what we had. So, we set our cell phone alarm for 5:30 AM (because there was no alarm clock provided in the room) and said that we would leave first thing in the morning. When packing our bags to leave, we always check carefully to ensure that we leave nothing behind. Our last little surprise before leaving came when we were checking the dresser drawers and found some graffiti scrawled inside them.
Overall, our experience at the Fifth Season Inn was poor. The desk clerk on the evening of the 19th and the young lady serving breakfast on the 20th were polite and hard working, and the lobby and atrium were attractive and clean. However, these public areas of the hotel stood in stark contrast to the shabby, smelly, unpleasant room in which we stayed. We would not choose to stay at this location again, and will be sure to warn our friends and colleagues against...

The furniture, the rugs, the rooms, the pool was not in service, service desk said the pool has not been working for a while that they been waiting on parts?! the hot tub was not in service.
Our room was NOT clean before we got in it. There was soap stains from the previous people that stayed, the carpet was dirty, the wall next to our son’s bed had some red stain it looked like blood??! We cleaned it off with a kitchen rag that was left on the desk in the room, there was a prick or something very sharp on the ground, as a diabetic if I had stabbed my self with what ever that was It could had been really bad for me.
We are just very disappointed because the pictures looked so good. People leaving reviews made it seem so good- maybe the room we stayed at was not the best!? Maybe the other rooms are better? Idk. 🤷🏻♀️
It is extremely hot outside the rooms like by the breakfast area, pool area and no it’s not from the pool. Staff was friendly, there is no DO NOT DISTURB SIGNS!? 🤷🏻♀️ You must tell the front desk if you don’t want anyone in your room. I did not like that because how do you know someone is not going to come in the room? Sorry we do not trust people.
The location is okay, is right off the highway. There is a back door in the room that we stayed in and it just didn’t feel very safe. The first night someone knocked so hard on the door, that was frightening. No WE DID NOT opened the door.
Now, the whole theme they have going on with nature, plants everywhere is what got us there. Absolutely loved that. But like I mentioned this place needs mayor updates everywhere, if this place was updated it will be a 10 out of 10 for sure. We will not be staying here again unless this place is updated to accommodate our needs. We stayed 2 nights.
The AC in the room was working at 100% we loved Amarillo, first time coming here and we will most definitely come back! Perhaps to a different stay sadly.
Breakfast is served super early and it ends super early- 9am is the cut off time🤷🏻♀️, not ever I stayed anywhere and breakfast was served so early and closed so fast.🤷🏻♀️maybe it’s just me.
We had enough towels, the beds only have 2 pillows per bed??🤷🏻♀️ like why? And they are the worst pillows. The sheets were also stained with who knows what.
If you want a fridge you must pay extra, the coffee at the lobby was really good surprisingly! It’s served 24hrs. I am very honest and always try to leave the most honest and detailed review whether good or bad. This is how facilities and property owners know how to improve in my...
