I want to start this off by saying that my family has been stylist& have come from Milan. I used to think highly of Milan& that is why I chose this school over the same curriculum & cheaper options. I have been at Milan since summer 2021 & am coming up on my graduation. 8 teachers. 5 directors. In less than 2 years. Each with their own teaching style or lack thereof, and inconsistencies. I was advised at one point that I was too 'hormonal& should take a 2 week leave' this was when I was pregnant, yes was emotional& cried when I stood up for my education..well lack thereof. NOT because I was pregnant but because I cared about my education& felt I was being robbed of it. When I addressed to my director& told them I am not learning anything, & that my lack of education has me spending $16,000 just to be taught by teachers using YouTube, & never knowing if we were going to be online (distance education) or at school but to find out when I drove to school. I would contact the school periodically through the days to confirm where our class would be. I do have to note that the schedule for online/in-school scheduling has been corrected & we are now informed via text if there is any changes to location of school. I ended up taking a 6 month leave for multiple reasons. Yes I was pregnant but that did not cause me to take a leave. It was that I didn't want to come to school. The instructors didn't want to be there and didn't want to share their knowledge, guide us or even teach us the curriculum. When I came back there has been numerous problems with technology. The time system was VERY bugged from when we used CourseKey I lost over 50 hours and they were unable to correct. With CampusLogin I have lost hours & with previous directors I was told that we were unable to fix. Now with the head registar and newest director I am able to get my hours from CampusLogin bugs. It's not much but every bit counts. I have been screenshotting my time punch everyday so I have time stamps. This is what saved me from the CampusLogin bugs. Along with the technology troubles we were advised we had 2 weeks to enter in our labs (haircuts, colors, etc.) or we would lose all of our labs. I have worked for 2 yrs on these and had manually entered in almost 1000 hours. Thankfully, I was able to submit mine by the short deadline, but this was a very stressful situation especially when I could have used these crucial hours to be studying as I have 18 days left until I graduate. I came back after my 6 month leave because I didn't want to have a school loan with nothing to show for & I'm not a quitter. I came back and was welcomed with an amazing teacher who genuinely loves to teach, share her knowledge, and wants us to succeed. Miss Genie Garcia has taught me everything I know to be a successful cosmetologist since I have been back August 22. She has built my confidence to interact with clients, showed us how to present ourselves as professionals, we have learned everything we have covered in the books and more! Even helpful knowledge for when we get out of school and real-life scenerios. I know multiple hair cutting/coloring techniques. During my time here I was dismissed multiple times by previous teachers, but with Miss Genie has answered every question, and if not, she has found the question out. Miss Genie has brought life to Milan, and thanks to her it has been worth staying & graduating. With the admissions I want to note that I was originally here for nails but was advised that they did not nor would have a nail technician class. Months later they opened their nail technician program. When I was filling out my paperwork I was mislead and misinformed about the financial aid & the actual cosmetology program. PLEASE do your research of all the schools available in your area. Look at the cost as well. By law, the schools have to follow TDLR guidelines & all the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just moved to Amarillo, I wanted to get my hair done for my birthday. I found this beauty college on online that has a great birthday special. The moment I stepped in I was greeted with a friendly sweet receptionist. I did not have to wait long at all before I spoke to the instructor Genie Garcia about what I was looking to get done. Of course having photos does help them help you. I knew it was going to be a challenge for anyone who was going to work on my hair because my hair was a mess, my rootās were very outgrown. As well as my hair has always been difficult to lift from the dark natural color I have to a light blonde not to mention I do have a lot of grey hair nowadays. Genie is such an amazing instructor she set my worries at ease of my hair being done was not going to be a difficult as I thought. Genie was absolutely correct! She recognizes the talents her students have, she supports, and encourages her students to shine. She set me up with with a sweet young lady Madelyn Smith. She looked a my photos, asked all the right questions of what I was looking to get done. I tell you she did such an amazing job and made sure that I received what I was looking for, I was tremendously impressed and left Milan a super satisfied customer. I highly recommend going to Milan and ask for Madelyn Smith for anyone looking to get their hair done for a special occasion or a simple routine upkeep. I am extremely impressed with what an amazing instructor Genie is and extremely happy for the service I received from Madelyn. I walked in my hair such a mess and walked out with with my hair exactly what I was looking for. I looove how she did my hair, itās absolutely gorgeous!! I will making all my future appointments with Madelyn. Even after she graduates I would love to have the honor of being a permanent client of hers!!! I could have not received a better birthday gift of having my hair done at Milan by Madelyn Smith!! Thank you ladies for making my hair being done for my 49th birthday a special and beautiful experience!! Keep shining...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took my wife in for a 12:15 appointment for a perm. I left to do some errands and came back around 2:00 and started waiting. At around 3:00 I asked the receptionist how long it would be. She was able to get in touch with the area where the work was done and said they were having "trouble" getting the hair around the curlers. Why didn't a supervisor step in and help? I left and came back around 4:00 and waited. My wife called me and said the student was unable to get the hair around the curlers and no one was helping. Students are supposed to be supervised! Things went down hill after that. At around 5:30 a supervisor came out and told my that the student had forgotten the second solution and my wife's hair was strait as a board. She had come in with a perm that had just grown out some. They said they were now doing a hair cut. My wife told me later that the student had been reminded more that once to do the second solution. I finally talked to the manager in charge and told her that a student that didn't have the presents of mind to do step two of a two step process shouldn't be using chemicals near my wife's eyes. Her reply was we didn't get any chemicals in your wife's eyes. One of the supervisors offered to do a perm for free her self, but they had already done a haircut, so I think it would have been too short. So my wife went in with a perm needing to be updated and left around 5:45 with straight hair. Manager and supervisors were not doing their jobs. I will try to find out who regulates these student salons and have a talk with them. Go there at...
