This is one of the most comfortable, inviting and one of my favorite places of nature in a beautiful city. It's the Foraging Forest where almost all the plants are edible. Almost all so make sure you know what it is before you try to eat it. It's truly one of the gems on the east side of Austin. Very inviting and comfortable to walk around. They have all kinds of activities like yoga on Sundays and the Plant Walk the 1st Saturday of the month. If you like plants and need some nature this is the place to go. Close and conveniently located right off I-35. Plenty of free parking and the community garden right next to the forest.

Such a great thing to have in Austin!! Note though that absolutely nothing is labeled, and there are minimal instructions about how to forage. It’s necessary to either come with some existing knowledge of foraging, or with a very good plant identifier app. Haven’t had a chance to go on a guided tour and also did not know about their online guides until after I left, so can’t speak to how much guidance those offer.

I love going here to harvest fresh produce of all kinds to incorporate into our diet at home. A fun way to produce local food in the neighborhood, and best of all- there is no fence! A great space to get together with friends as well, their potluck picnics are a lot fun that usually feature free food, drinks and live music for the whole family
