I thought it was nice. I mean being new to Austin. They tell you to park on. I think it’s Lakeview or Lakeshore Avenue. My recommendation is as you’re coming in. You want to get to the beginning of Lakeshore Avenue which is by the high school I don’t know the name of the high school but look for the high school or middle school. I would park there because if you travel in like I did, I parked Kind of downtown and I wasn’t quite sure where I was going cause there’s no signs you see like a park area, but there’s no sign saying this way to Lady Bird Lake. You have to kind of figure it out so I ended up walking up towards one of the major intersections finding my way down and then fortunately I found a path behind a look like apartment building by the overpass and that took me down to the pathway to the lady boardwalk lake and it’s on both sides of the interstate so it’s a little confusing again. I would recommend parking at the beginning of Lakeshore Avenue and then walking in you can walk in from that point or parking like around the high school I think it’s a high school or middle school and then walking in that way, it was OK. There was a lot of people it was a great day. People were kayaking And this scooters. I would imagine that you can rent out if you’d like, but it was OK I kind of got my bearings now so I know where to go the next time I would recommend going like early on a Saturday or a Sunday and enjoying you know when that manner you will encounter some homeless people I did sleeping on the wall wrapped up in a blanket, but that’s kind of normal right for most city areas. I’ll go back again but this time I’ll probably go like early on a Sunday morning you know like 7 AM I think you can get more enjoyment out of that later on in the in the morning which is when I went on Sunday it was around. I think 1030. There was a...
Read moreFinally found the best kept secret in Austin! Seriously, this thing is impossible to find! It is like some weird gap in the Austin Space Time Continuum...you can see it, but you (and apparently no one you know) can't figure out exactly how to get there.
Turns out, it is has various access points, but very few that are within immediate walking distance from anywhere accessible by car. However, if you have an BT@LBL Obi Wan, then all is not lost!
As for the boardwalk itself, it is just absolutely fantastic! There are several "viewing harbors" where you can get off the main path (where the cyclists will run you down if you do not get out of their way fast enough...ahem, pedestrians always have right away!) and enjoy some great overlooks on the water and of the skyline.
There is such great people watching to be had along with wildlife viewing in the form of turtles (they are just so adorable all clustered together sunning themselves on a log) or cranes or Austinites themselves.
Fair warning, there are no restroom facilities or access to water along the boardwalk, so bring lots of water with you and make sure to pee before you trek out!
Also, keep your eye out for what I am guessing is an art installation commentary on ATX's canine per capita in the form of bronze dog collars with funny lil quips along...
Read moreIts a lovely walk or jog path. Parts are sand, parts are concrete pavement, so strollers have a slightly more difficult time in the sany areas, but it is maintained well enough to allow it to be smooth enough.
There is plenty of room to walk, even side by side with someone else, but be mindful that bikes and joggers and runners use this path too, so slow traffic to the right ;-)
It is dog friendly, plenty of folks were walking their dogs. They had cool activities and/or groups like canoeing, and even tightroping, that got together here, and we could watch. The path over the waters is best, as you can see nice views of the Austin cityscape during sunset AND sunrise.
It is popular, but never felt too crowded. The paths lver water had very cool and beautiful underlighting hidden under the handrails, and the majority of the land-paths were well lit. However, there were small sections that were not lit very well, so if staying until its dark, bring a flashlight. There are still a decent amount of people there, so it didnt seem sketchy after dark, but i could see some folks feeling uncomfortable or...
