This was my first time visiting Anchor In as an adult. I used to come here with my family when I was young and I always loved it. As far as the harbor views, there's none better than Anchor In. Opening your door first thing in the morning to the beautiful view is both serene and invigorating - Most definitely it's strongest thing going for it.
Overall, the experience was on the positive side and I'd consider visiting again sometime again, but there were a few drawbacks. First, I was really bummed they removed the shuffleboard court. I figured out they did this during the big landscaping renovation in circa 2013. That was such a unique activity that you can't seem to find anywhere - an old mariners deck sport. I had so much fun playing that back in the day and was really looking forward to showing my wife the game. They seemed to replace this with your typical backyard lawn games like corn-hole, ladder ball, and connect 4. Not a huge fan of these and they don't really fit the vibe of the location.
Second, the room itself had a few drawbacks. It had kind of a wonky layout that technically worked, but just seemed weird. The bed faced a second room containing a jetted tub on the right and a kitchenette on the left, and on the far back wall between them was the TV. So technically you could see the TV from bed, but it was kind of far away. Everything in the room felt just placed wherever there was an empty spot and it didn't have a very cohesive or cozy feel to it. The jetted tub was really nice, except the jets were so loud and strong and water was literally bubbling over the edge of the tub, so it was nice as long as jets weren't being used.
Most importantly, is the bed was extremely uncomfortable, so much so, that I didn't even sleep well the first night and woke up multiple times in the night with very sore shoulders (I'm typically a side sleeper). I've never slept in a hotel bed so stiff before. Not only was the mattress stiff, but the pillows had absolutely no volume and just sunk in flat, so absolutely no pillow support. I know everyone has different sleeping styles, but these seemed extreme and like maybe someone really overweight may be more comfortable on this bed, but certainly not for the average person. And me and my wife are the very definition of average as far as physical stature goes.
One other side note - I hate bringing this up, because it's not really the hotel's fault, but the area that the hotel is located in has seemed to become increasingly more busy since I last visited. I remember it being a pretty quiet area, but there is definitely more traffic now and half of the cars that drive by have modded exhaust pipes that just amplify the noise even more. There is also a new section to the hospital being built right across the street, so there's no doubt that this area is going to continue to become more busy and noisy.
Anchor In is definitely worth a visit. I know I had some gripes, but it's got its strong points as well. It's got amazing views, It's within walking distance to downtown and the ferry lines. It has a lot going for it. I would hope that at the very least they get better mattresses and maybe update the...
Read moreAnchor Inn in Hyannis, Cape Cod is one of my favorite hotels. I liked it so much that just to spend time in that hotel, I had another trip to New England. It is just outside the Hyannis Harbor. You can get nice view of harbor from the hotel. The beach is close by from the hotel about 10 minutes drive. When we visited that hotel, there was some fair nearby so the restaurants and eating places were abundant. The hotel has nice location and nice decor and is a bit of European style. Each room is tastefully designed. It includes breakfast in the morning. I must say that I started liking Granola after tasting it in this hotel. The breakfast is filling and the garden outside the hotel overlooking the harbor is very beautiful. It is maintained really very nice. In the garden there is shuffleboard for the visitors to play. Also there is nice pool and Jacuzzi. The rates are also good and so are the amenities and the excellence of hotel. We used to drive to the beach every day. The hotel has room service which is nice. Parking is available. There are many ferries going to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard from Cape cod which is few minutes from hotel. The hotel concierge arranges all the trips for you. The weather in summer was excellent. There is a game room for visitors to play.I have been in this hotel twice as I liked the hotel a lot. I still remember the granola with nuts, fresh berries and fresh flavored yogurt and the honey or brown sugar or maple syrup on top, The taste still lingers in my mouth. The hotel is quiet and picturesque. The guest service was excellent. In fact when we went for second time, they gave us discount too. The trip to Boston became memorable because of Anchor Inn. I will whole heartedly recommend this hotel to all who are visiting Cape cod or the vicinity. A very...
Read moreWe recently spent 3 nights at the Anchor In and loved it! While Hyannis was a bit busier than I had envisioned for the Cape, our little inn was exactly what I had hoped it would be! The inn is a few blocks removed from the busy tourist section, but felt like a different world! There were two streets (Main and another) that felt really busy and full of hotels, restaurants, and people. Even thought we were still walking distance from it, the Anchor In was so calm, quiet and quaint.
Upon check-in, we were given our KEYS and shown to our room, with a little tour on the way. It was such a nice, classic touch and really made us feel at home. The pool and lawn (with games) is beautiful and looks over the harbor in a way that none of the other places we saw in town could offer. Not to mention, the very stereotypical and welcomed sound of the ferries arriving and leaving.
We were in room 101, which was a queen deluxe and it was more than we could have hoped for! 2 queen beds, a pull out couch, walk in closet and little nook for the mini fridge and coffee pot. HUGE balcony that overlooked the pool, lawn and harbor. if you looked the other way, you will see some construction, but there is no need to look away!
The Anchor In felt like Newhart on the water! The pool, library and firepit area seemed to instantly turn strangers into friends! There was plenty of room to not infringe on each other, but not so big that it made awkward to talk to other guests
Like anything, it was not 100% perfect, but as Elin Hilderbrand fan who was looking to replicate an experience of one her books on the mainland, I would not have asked for anything better! The whole family loved it and if we ever find ourselves back in Hyannis or the Cape, we will...
