This says that 3 stars is good, and two stars is "ok", which I am feeling this stay was "ok", but 2 stars looks low. So if 2.5 existed...
The good: Nice and clean. Cute little room. Located near a lot of things, so if that is your preference, you will love that. Has an ok breakfast and has a fitness center (small, with a couple of cardio machines & some weights. I didn't use it, tho I had planned to, and it was a part of why I chose this hotel). Eco-conscious.
The not great- Is a loud location, and I forgot my earplugs. Went downstairs to see if they had any for sale, and even after loud, obnoxious automatic bell that goes off when entering "store", no one came out. Tried to call later for something else, and the phone just rang...and rang.... Granted, this was sometime after 1am, but that's the thing: they weren't busy. There was just no one around?
This morning before 8am, loud talking in the hallway for longer than you would expect. Vacuuming happening by 8:30am (?) Someone incessantly knocking on the door around that time as well...and apparently they were not housekeeping, just someone looking for someone or something else.
Continental breakfast: not bad. Sunday is from 7 - 10. At 8:45 or so, they were out of milk, and I saw no one monitoring. There is the usual waffle maker scenario, and I saw a kid struggling to get the last of the maple syrup out of the industrial container it was in by opening it up and trying to pour it out-- so that could be better. But the offerings themselves not bad.
There are no refridgerators or microwaves in the rooms. I wrongly assumed there would be, based on price & other amenities, but that's on me for not looking more closely. Just sharing here for others to be forewarned.
Not that I go to hotels to get free toiletries, but I thought it odd that they only out out a shampoo & 2 soaps, no conditioner. (& no, it's not a 2-in-1 shampoo)
The A/C is a little loud, but I actually liked it for blocking other noise. However, the fan function has been turned off, so the only time air is moving in the room is when the A/C kicks on.
All in all, just an ok stay for a night when I had to whip into town for an event and whip out again. I don't think it was worth the $20 more that I paid versus another hotel I almost chose which did not have a fitness center or breakfast. I guess that little bit of breakfast cost me the $20? (The point really being, it's hard to reconcile what hotel stays cost now, and the ads for prices I am seeing even today are below what I paid, even with a...
Read moreChose to stay at the microtel in Bentonville Arkansas on a short Golf road trip. Reasonably priced and well located for where I was going. The property is surrounded by multiple restaurants, both fast food sit-down dining and specialty cuisine. Got to my room, it was pretty small. But that's okay single guy don't need a lot of room. But it's small. Queen size bed, TV, closet, table and chair. Bathroom was adequate plenty of space. The overall grounds of the hotel and the room were all very well kept and in good condition. My main problem with this location was the lack of a refrigerator in the room. When I went out to dinner the first night I asked the desk clerk why there was not a refrigerator in my room. She explained to me that refrigerators are not put in single rooms but they are put in double rooms. So it just seems as a single traveler who would like to put food in a refrigerator and drinks to stay cold I would have to pay extra and get a double room to have a refrigerator. This makes absolutely no sense. Probably would have paid more to stay next door or down the street at another Wyndham location to have a refrigerator. Microwave I'm not worried about I don't microwave a whole lot of stuff. But a refrigerator during the summer gives you the ability to store water to stay hydrated and put snacks that need to stay cool. Just very disappointed that you have to book a double room to get a fridge and a single or even a husband and wife sleeping in the queen bed don't get a fridge. Microtel you need to fix this issue. What I stay at this location again? What I recommend this location? I would say yes I would stay there again and yes I recommend it because it's a nice facility. But be aware of what you're getting and what you're not getting in your room. Of course as a platinum customer it would have been nice for the desk agent to take notice of that and upgrade me to a room with the...
Read moreIf you don't have a pet and don't care about breakfast, stay here if you're looking for a hotel. This hotel feels new and clean. It's generally cheaper than it's Wyndham counterpart The LaQuinta Inn, which is right next door. The LaQuinta does have a nicer breakfast, and it allows pets, but the cheaper Microtel feels nicer and definitely newer overall. The LaQuinta's staff is top notch however, compared to the Microtel staff which is adequate but not memorable. The LaQuinta also has nicer beds, but Microtel's beds were fine and it has a stronger Wi-Fi. I suppose the comparison maybe a bit apples to oranges, but as both are part of the same larger company and as I've stayed at both, I feel that the Microtel is an excellent value and a very-nice hotel for a chain that is largely considered an economy property. I will add that if you're visiting Bentonville for mountain biking, this location and other hotels nearby will work, but the rush hour traffic makes some of the drives a bit longer (15-20 minutes to Slaughter Pen or Coler) compared to staying closer to downtown. Bentonville is a fast-growing area, and the current infrastructure doesn't quite support rush hour traffic at times. Not a big issue for me, and this area is also a bit closer to other mountain bike destinations, such as the Railyard Bike Park in...
