Azul Tequila Mexican Cuisine BENTONVILLE — Restaurant in Bentonville

TL:DR - Poor service, poor food, good atmosphere. Our experience could have just been an “off-day”.

My wife surprised me with a visit to Bentonville to ride Slaughter Pens and hang out with family for Father’s Day. We had read some reviews and thought this would be a good dinner spot, so we gave it a try. Unfortunately, there was much about it that didn’t match up with other reviewers ratings.

First the good: We were able to get seated fast. We went Sunday evening and we’re able to be sat immediately, whereas Taco and Tamale had a 35 minute wait. The food portions were good (but that’s only as good as the food itself; more on that later on…). The doctor was nice and becoming of a Mexican Bistro. It was very trendy and the drinks were good. They were able to accommodate my sister-in-laws request for a jalapeño margarita, even though it was off menu.

Now for the unfortunate; and I mean unfortunate because I did want to like this place. My carne asada was cooked just this side of completely burnt. They never asked how I wanted it cooked, so they assumed I wanted burnt shoe leather. My brother ordered something, unsure the dish, and remarked that his beef was also cooked poorly. Our waitress, although kind and did accommodate our requests, was absent much of the time and we found ourselves without water, or having to track her down to ask for things, which was surprising since it didn’t seem all that busy; hence the quick seating for 8. So here is how I would break it down:

GO TO MOJITOS IN ROGERS INSTEAD!!!! I’ve eaten at Azul tequila several times and have always really enjoyed it. However, when I was there this week, it was completely ruined for me. The service was absolutely horrendous. We sat waiting on the hostess to stop talking to the other workers for 15 minutes. Once she finally got back, she seated a large party then returned to my part and another party. I told her to let the other party sit first because they only had 3 and she jumped down my throat and said she had to seat my party now or there wouldn’t be a table. After getting seated, we waited for our waitress for probably 15 minutes. Once we ordered, she brought all of our foods at different times with at-least 10 minutes between each plate so all of our food was cold by the time the last plate got their. Not to mention, we didn’t get offered drink refills, or chips and salsa refills once. My order was wrong and she made a face at me and mocked me when she walked away and refused to fix it. After we all ate, we waited 20 minutes for our checks. We asked an employee if we could get our checks cause we’ve been waiting for 20 minutes and she said “Oh are you sure about that??” and walked off to talk about it with the other employees. We visited for supper on a Saturday night. It was already pretty busy at about 5pm but we were immediately seated in a booth. It was somewhat cramped for four people, especially my tall husband, but at least it felt spaced away from other booths. Service was good throughout our visit. Chips and salsa bowls came out promptly, followed by drinks--except my husband's beer, but the waitress returned to apologize for the delay, and it soon arrived. Our meals came out pretty quickly. I had the taco salad with shredded chicken, and it was really good. Chicken is such a basic thing but it's so easy to serve dry and flavorless, and this was great. My teenage son ordered the flautas; he didn't expect, as he put it, "there to be a salad on top," but he scraped off the lettuce and toppings and still liked the flautas. I had part of one, too, and it was incredibly good. My husband enjoyed his beef street tacos, and my mother-in-law enjoyed her food, too; she's a local but had never been there before.
