The Wilson hotel is an unfussy “quiet luxury” hotel that just gets things right. We traveled here for our honeymoon to see Yellowstone for the first time. It has been our favorite hotel stay ever! Simple things like the shower knob being mounted to the opposite wall of the shower faucet so that you don’t get wet when turning it on, make you feel like nothing here is an afterthought.
My wife has celiac disease, hotel food is almost never an option. When we made our way downstairs the first morning for breakfast, we expected the typical hotel experience.. stale bread and mystery egg mix.. Boy were we surprised. Quiche, hashbrowns grilled with onions and peppers, bacon, breakfast sandwiches and more. All clearly labeled for their dietary restrictions with plenty of gluten free options for my wife. The staff was all aware of dietary restrictions and even brought her special uncontaminated food from the kitchen.
Our stay at the Wilson has been filled with thoughtful surprises like this, from the beautiful views, to the farmers/craft market that took place right outside the back patio. We were given Wilson Hotel water bottles which was a true lifesaver for unprepared hikers like us. When realizing my wife left her makeup remover in the car at 11pm, the Wilson had already beat us to it by having it stocked in our bathroom.
If most big chain hotels are like fast food restaurants and luxury hotels are like stuffy white table cloth overpriced restaurants, the Wilson is like that one farm to table restaurant that gets everything perfect and all the locals know is best. Highly recommend for your stay in the summertime and I can’t wait to come back here in the...
Read moreMattress was terrible. Both my wife and I tossed and turned all night. For me, it wasn't just uncomfortable, but non-supportive and made my back hurt - a problem I don't normally have. We asked the female agent at the front desk mid-way through our 6 night stay if they had a spare, could change it out, or even if they had a different mattress pad - anything to help. She shrugged and told us they were all the same, and the hotel was only 2 years old. After 5 nights, I talked to the assistant manager, who was much more pleasant and understanding. He had it switched out, and even said that the maintenance supervisor noted our old one was lumpy and didn't seem right. This mattress was noticeably better, but it still wasn't a good night's rest. As a platinum member, I've stayed in hundreds of Marriotts over the years and who knows how many Residence Inns. I know Marriott has a standard mattress for each brand - and you can count on a comfortable night(s) sleep. Not sure how this location got around that, but they weren't comfortable. The assistant manager gave me 5000 points, which was nice -- though doesn't make up for 6 rough nights of sleep. We have an 18 month old and were looking forward to quality sleep on a rare trip without her. Definitely wouldn't recommend staying here because of the mattress, which is too bad, as it's otherwise a nice, modern hotel in great location. They even did a nice job given COVID-19 with the breakfast buffet (they prepackaged/ individually wrapped items, including hot items -- way better than others we've stayed at during Covid offering a...
Read moreThe Wilson/Residence Inn was a big disappointment. We knew the hotel was in town, but we were not expecting to it to be situated smack in the middle of a parking lot (our bad; should have dug deeper). The “stunning” rooms, and even the location were not worth the price point. The views of Lone Peak from our room were beautiful if we looked past and above the cars and the main road (Montana Highway 64). Sitting on the balcony, which we were looking forward to, was pretty much a bust due to the never ending traffic noise.
The king suite is on the smaller side for a suite, but it is sparkling clean and works well for two people, though oddly, it is missing a desk, coffee table, and side tables (would be nice to have one or the other).
The bathroom is larger than standard with tons of hooks and towel bars. The half door on the shower is a disaster with water overflowing onto the floor. Who comes up with such a stupid design!
The lobby is impressive with nooks and crannies and places to hang out. The hot tub is luke warm, but the fire pits make up for it. The breakfast buffet offers a good variety of hot and cold breakfast options (the better old style Marriott breakfast, not the pre-packaged new style).
Customer service is fine unless you run into a snafu, which we did, twice, and which the front desk staff did not know how to handle in a gracious manner, other than to smile. Don’t get me wrong; smiles are nice, but they do not provide a solution.
Considering all of the above, this so called “luxury” hotel, for the price point, is not a Marriott that we will be...
