We made reservations two days in advance though a resort concierge, including the information that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived we were seated at the worst possible table - right in front of the kitchen door, despite other "better" tables being unfilled.
My husband ordered a Manhattan, which was good. We ordered two appetizers. The baked trout spread was dry, served with insufficient French bread for the amount of dip provided, and brought to the table without spreaders so that we had to use our table knives. (Note to the chef - this dip could be improved by adding some mayonnaise to the dip before baking.). The Parker House rolls were good, served with maple butter and huckleberry jam - but again brought to the table without spreaders, necessitating use of our already fishy table knives. The huckleberry jam was thin and runny and included berry stems.
My husband ordered a beef filet which was flavorful and cooked with skill. Our nephew ordered lobster which he enjoyed, but struggled to remove from the shell because he only had a table knife (already used for fish spread and huckleberry jam) and a large, unwieldy table fork. I ordered the beet, squash and apple salad which I found to be somewhat under done. I prefer my roasted vegetables softer and with a touch of char. The wines we ordered were good.
The music was a bit loud for our personal taste. The decor includes taxidermied animal heads which might be off-putting for some diners.
Our wait person was friendly and attentive - perhaps a bit too attentive! She cleared plates individually instead of waiting until all had finished dining (one of my pet peeves). She also frequently asked, "are you still working on that?". I do not "work" on my food. I enjoy and savor my food! The final minor service mis-step is that our check came with the customer copy on top, instead of the merchant copy. People tend to calculate tip on the top copy and when the incorrect copy is on top, they have to rewrite and re-sign the tab.
In summary it appeared that Block 3 was going for a casual/upscale vibe, but it misses the mark. I feel this restaurant could be vastly improved by a small investment in proper silverware/cutlery coupled with a bit of...
Read moreBlock 3 is sexy!!!! The restaurant is located inside of the Wilson hotel in town center. The location is ideal especially for dinners heading into a night out. Popular for vacationers and locals this place consistently serves delicious food and impeccable service. AGM Colin is attentive and passionate. Our server Gabbie was astute and spot on with her recommendations. My friends and I came here for cocktails and dinner and we ate like kings. For cocktails we had the vest chic se freak which was delicious and refreshing! The you autumn know was warm and pretty, and the Caribbean queen was something straight out of a tropical vacation. The duck confit is absolutely outstanding! The flavors were fresh and the goat cheese in the salad added a great creamy element. The charcuterie board was beautiful and so delicious. The fondue was the only thing I wasn't crazy about. The cheese lacked a little luster compared to the other starters. Our entrees were so flavorful and perfectly portioned! The chicken pared with the garlic herb butter is a must! Desert certainly did not disappoint! We ordered everything because why not! I highly recommend the pear crumble and cheesecake. We will certainly be coming...
Read moreA horrible, awkward time was had here. I spent weeks emailing and calling the restaurant trying to make a large reservation for our group of 14 (including an infant), and was finally told I had to technically make two reservations at different times and they would put the tables as near eachother as possible. Upon arriving, with our whole group, early, we were treated instantly with disrespectful and curt behavior. Our tables were on opposite sides of the dining room when the restaurant was almost empty. Our "first reservation sat" while the rest of us had to wait for the second reservation time "due to the kitchen" while sitting in the waiting area, basically forced to order drinks. Funnily enough, our second table was served food before the first. The food and drinks were overpriced, and definitely not worth this unfortunately memorable and unpleasant experience. Fortunately our group has a sense of humor, but we definitely do not...
