Well situated in a shared hallway of The Residence Inn (the no-no word for The Wilson Hotel) lies Tres Toros, a Tex Mex restaurant that boasts of a too-good-for-you chef and mediocre cuisine. If you are looking for a spot to drink, yes - do it. We loved our main bartender, Luke. The other bartender was great also (who whipped up a great cilantro and pepper infused margarita off the cuff). However, something as simple as salsa (trio) and queso the chef just couldn’t figure out. The trio consisted of a salsa verde (pretty good, although served warm which is weird), a chipotle type salsa that was inedible (and I enjoy heat), and a corn salsa.. so bland, so sweet, possibly corn from the can? Fundido w/ chorizo was no fun. I’ve had better velveeta on game days. They should consider changing the recipe entirely. Chorizo was over cooked, cheese was merely melted pre-shredded cheese from the grocery store. Burrito was okay. Chicken was overcooked and dish lacked flavor. To top off the lackluster dishes, the chef confronted me not for constructive criticism but to confirm I did not enjoy the queso (no)fundido in a defensive tone. It was super awkward - probably shouldn’t do that unless looking for actual feedback. My only possible response was “It’s just not good.” He should know that dish doesn’t taste good and could be fixed with better quality ingredients. Wouldn’t go back, would question those who do (that aren’t industry people w discounts and...
Read moreAn absolute amazing find! My friends and I arrived in Big Sky today and needed dinner. We saw Tres Toros had good reviews and really great sounding tacos, so we swung by. We were sat right away and had fantastic service. We had a few dietary restrictions and they were more than accommodating and made everything perfect for our needs. It was so nice of them and appreciated!! Our drinks, apps and meals were phenomenal and arrived almost immediately after ordering. We ordered “a friend of the devil’s” old fashion and “machete Manhattan” - delicious!! My friend also got a non-alcoholic corona and loves it. For food, we shared a taco salad and poutine fries to start. we then ordered several tacos: the tinga chicken, pork belly, steak, cricket and mahi mahi. We also got a chicken quesadilla, steak burrito and nachos with pork. The portion sizes were really great- especially the mahi mahi. It was an awesome chunk of fish. Even the cricket was delightfully crunchy and tasty. If you couldn’t tell already, I highly recommend coming here. The food is well thought out and delivered wonderfully. The service, atmosphere and drinks were also taken with great care. You can tell this is a well loved establishment by all who own...
Read moreMy favorite spot in Big Sky to eat by far and I would say this is the best Mexican food in Montana (coming from a San Diego girl). The chef/owner Brandon and his wife are amazing and run the place seamlessly. Best service and amazing Tulum inspired decor and atmosphere.
Food - they have a wide selection of delicious tacos and quesadillas and appetizers and large plates depending on what you are hungry for. Wide selection of meat but also vegan and vegetarian options, partially due to the chef/owner Brandon being vegan. I typically get a two taco plate that comes with taco tacos of your choice, elote, and black beans and rice. My favorite tacos are the blackened salmon and carne de res. Don’t forget to hit the massive hot sauce wall, they can recommend specific hot sauces that pair the best with your meal as well.
Drinks - huge selection of tequila and great cocktails including a delicious house margarita.
Parking - plenty of street and lot parking.
Seating - you can call for a reservation, but they will always fit you in. Good space inside and great patio during the warmer months. Also very kid friendly.
Highly recommend visiting and supporting a terrific local...
