Read moreAnother great example of a beautiful looking hotel with a terrible design and build. Room 901 seems great, except when you lay down in the Murphey bed and realize it's attached to the same wall as the elevator shaft and vibrates every time the elevator is used. I'm not a light sleeper also. I was then moved in the middle of the night after a 12 hour drive to a room with no kitchen but two queen beds. I'm alone so this is a far worse room for me, I'd much rather have the kitchen than a second bed I can't use because I'm alone, and they are charging me more money for this privilege!
The girl at the front desk was super nice and she couldn't do more, but obviously the situation is unacceptable. Do not accept a room attached to the elevator shaft such as 901, you'd be better off sleeping in your car! Charging more for a worse room after this kind of a late night upset is the epitome of bad customer service. I have to say, bell man and front desk girl were extremely nice and apologetic, and they can't control these things.
I suppose this is a good place to also say this... Please don't take your frustrations with bad hotel design and bad upper management out on the front line staff, it's not there fault no matter how unacceptable and frustrating! They agreed this situation is bs. I'll update once I speak with hotel management tomorrow. Unfortunately I must get up at 5:30 am for a scientific conference I've been invited to speak at and so I won't be chipper.
Edit : management "generously" waved the $20 per night up charge for the room "upgrade", which as I describe above is a downgrade in reality (who wouldn't trade a full kitchen for a second bed to put their socks on!?). I'm glad this will save the conference organizers $60, but they offer nothing for personal compensation for the late night move and disruption and lack of sleep. The managers Jessica and Josh said it was the conference groups fault for picking that style of studio room, and I should complain to them... As if they knew the room would be attached to the elevator shaft and unusable. The front desk staff told me they get many complaints from these elevator adjacent rooms and they certainly don't advertise the problems. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, totally astounded. Find another hotel!
Edit 2: a higher level manager Katie called me and we had a long discussion where she was very empathetic, honest, and insightful. She apologized for the previous mistakes and made things right. She said they will use this to help with training and hopefully it won't happen again. Very impressed with Katie, thanks! Changing star rating...
Read moreWe spent five nights at the Big Sky Summit Hotel and were genuinely disappointed by the experience—especially given the resort branding and premium pricing.||Misleading Room Setup|The Queen Studio was not as advertised. There was no mention or photo indicating the bed was a Murphy bed, which folded down flush against the couch. One person had to climb over the other to exit the bed—an awkward and potentially unsafe setup. There was no dresser, no space for suitcases, and we had to move a heavy coffee table just to access the bed. The small kitchenette had no room for four chairs, nor space elsewhere to place them. It’s hard to imagine four people staying in this room comfortably.||Housekeeping Intrusions|On our first afternoon—after traveling since 5AM—we were resting when a housekeeper entered and persistently asked if we needed towels, despite it being clear we were asleep. The next day, even with a “Do Not Disturb” tag on the door, another housekeeper walked in. He apologized, but it was unsettling.||Constant Noise|Our room was across from the housekeeping closet, so we heard constant door slams. On the other side, the elevator whirred nonstop. We were also awoken at 6AM by what sounded like someone entering our room—it turned out to be the neighboring guest closing their bathroom door. Once their shower started, it sounded like a water feature inside our room. Later, a woman used her phone on speaker, and it genuinely sounded like she was standing next to our bed. The lack of soundproofing is astonishing.||Restaurant Service|We ate breakfast twice at the L2 restaurant. Both times, the restaurant was nearly empty, yet service was extremely slow. One meal took 45 minutes to arrive and included dry pancakes, decent eggs, and a good yogurt parfait. The food was underwhelming, and the wait times were unacceptable.||Final Thoughts|This stay was deeply disappointing—not just for the misleading room setup, but for the lack of privacy, comfort, and basic hospitality standards. The experience was worse than many budget chain hotels, and certainly not what one expects from a...
