At $430 per night (booked half a year in advance), this felt like a huge ripoff.
Update 2: There's an undisclosed parking fee of $12/day if you book using any service other than their website
The rooms feel very bland due to the distinct lack of decorations, disproportionally small windows and underwhelming furniture. Most 3 star hotels you would expect an office chair, lounge chair and closet at least. The room I stayed in provided none of those, just 2 uncomfortably stiff and small chairs, a small boxy desk and coffee table, pull-out couch and standard beds. The beds were incredibly stiff, the most uncomfortable beds I've ever tried to sleep on, but that may not be an issue for some.
Wall decorations felt lacking as the only items to cover the peeling wallpaper (bottom right corner of window in first picture) were the headboards of the beds and the singular mirror. All this in a 12ft x 24ft space with an 11ft ceiling. Rectangular rooms like this are usually fine if decorated well, but personal preference and comparison to other hotels shows this one lacking greatly.
The hotel is generally quiet, but the doors and walls allow nearly all sounds to come through, so if people are walking down the hall with ski boots, you will know. if someone a few rooms down has a loud night, you may be able to hear. etc. The large gap (1") at the bottom of the door contributes greatly to this issue.
Update 1: heard next-door guest snoring, having adult fun times, utilities being used and guests in other rooms walking heavy footed. Feels like there is essentially no audio insulation between rooms.
Front desk assistance was acceptable, but some of the policies in place are a slap in the face to me. The hotel also gave me a room completely different than the one I booked without informing me prior. Instead of a single king facing the valley, I was given the key to a double queen facing the mountain. Some may see that as a win, but for me it was a loss as I have a harder time fitting on queen beds (tall boi). The housekeepers seemed nice and performed well. Breakfast options are good (update: they're actually subpar to every other breakfast offering hotel I've been to) and they have a basket of oranges and apples in the lobby at all times.
The proximity to the slopes is good, not great... You either have to walk over to the main base lodge (~5-15 mins depending on pace and route) which sucks in ski boots, or take the shuttle. The shuttle runs 4 times in the morning at 30 minute increments and returns from the main base lodge 4 times also at 30 minute increments. The valley view side will allow you to see the parking lot and some of the overall valley (duh). The mountain view side is mostly obscured by trees unless on the top floor, which is still not impressive due to the disproportionally small window compared to external wall size.
This hotel feels subpar compared to all the other "3-star" hotels I have stayed in prior. It feels like the only reason this one is lumped in with the rest of the 3-star hotels is due to the room entrances being indoors rather than outdoors.
Overall, felt extremely overpriced with subpar facilities. Will never return and would...
Read moreMy friend and I made a reservation for a room at the Lodge at Big Sky arriving 7/5. I verified the room was pet friendly and there were no weight restrictions on the hotel website or the email confirmation that was sent.
Upon arrival we were informed that there was a 45 lb weight limit for pets, and since mine was 100 lbs we would not be allowed to stay there.
We were told that my dog could sleep in the car or we would go someplace else. Anyone who has pets understands that having them sleep in a parking lot is not an option. Finding another pet friendly location in Big Sky with availability proved to be a challenge. The staff did give us the name of a 2 star hotel 10-15 minutes away, but this place was more expensive than the room we had booked with the Lodge.
I called what I believe was the lodges general inquiry line and asked about their pet policy. The agent let me know there were no weight restrictions, and one could even "bring a great Dane if you wanted". For places that did claim to have a weight restriction he said they were very loosely followed and I could just say my pet was a service animal and it wouldn't be questioned.
I explained to the person working the desk that the weight limit was not communicated anywhere and asked if they could accommodate us. The man working the desk offered to "make a deal" and would allow my dog to stay if we paid an additional $70 on top of the current $70 I was paying in pet fees.
I calmly informed him that since the hotel failed to disclose the stipulations of the policy anywhere prior to check-in it was misleading. The man told me that I needed to not "raise my voice" at him and threatened to call the cops twice.
Multiple onlookers of the conversation can and have reassured me that my voice was not raised. The front offices sudden threat to call the police was a gross over escalation.
My friend and I asked if we could think over his offer and stepped away. On our way out the door the man yelled across the lobby that the offer was no longer valid and we were not welcome at that hotel.
I am not someone who frequents this area or hotel, and I simply won't be traveling through the area again in the near future. However, I do believe it is important to make public the misrepresentation regarding the hotels pet policy, the service failure of the front desk to be accommodating, the last minute "deal making" offer which seemed like price gauging, and the aggressive way that the staff falsely claimed I was raising my voice as grounds for threatening to call the cops.
The gentleman I interacted with claimed to be the manager, but was not wearing a name tag so I cannot verify his name or position. Additionally he was not wearing a face covering. My hope is this review will help other travelers with pets make more informed decisions about their lodging in Big Sky, and that upper management of the hotel has a clear picture of how poorly the front office manager handled...
Read moreBEWARE!!! The Lodge at Big Sky is a COVID super spreader hotel!!! We booked over the holidays and then the team contracted COVID. We even had PCR tests to prove it- they wouldn't accept those. You want to know why The Lodge at Big Sky was the only resort available during the peak ski season over the holidays... Because its trash! Every other hotel was booked except this one and now I know why. Its a terrible place. This was a work trip and people on the team contracted COVID. When we called the resort to get a credit or partial refund, thinking that the hotel wouldn't want COVID positive people staying there... Remember we've spent thousands of dollars to stay here. Well they clearly don't care. All they said every time we called, doesn't matter if it was a manager or other staff member, it was the same thing on repeat, "we do not work with third party booking companies". Its as if the owners told the staff to not have ACTUAL customer service- instead just repeat the same thing over and over "we do not work with third party booking companies". It may as well have been an automated computer system saying this over and over again. Every response was the same, I could have asked about check in times or restaurant hours and the response would have been the same. How infuriating is that to a customer? There is one male manager and he is special let me tell you, the rudest, actually hung up on one of my employees. This is the craziest run establishment. I feel bad for the other guests because they're making no exceptions due to COVID. The Lodge at Big Sky is a super spreader. Just imagine all the people that don't want to lose the thousands of dollars spent at The Lodge at Big Sky because the The Lodge at Big Sky doesn't make any pandemic exceptions. They're motto, "whatever infect everyone in our hotel, you're not getting a partial refund or credits for future travel". A hotel that is that sloppy and shows no compassion is not a place you should stay. The hotel was dirty and not worth the cost. Thats no surprise either just read all of the reviews, which I kick myself as I should have done this in the beginning. DO NO STAY HERE- READ THE REVIEWS. Book early or on Airbnb there are lots of other...
