Having to place a loved one into an assisted living facility was stressful enough, but having to provide bedding as well as other living essentials within a few days notice of the move-in was especially challenging.
I had no idea how my friend and I were going to accomplish this task in such a short amount of time when I happened to pass US Mattress on my way home at 7:30 PM and saw the lights still on. I couldn't believe that it would still be open on a Saturday night until 8:00 PM, so I immediately turned around and entered with hope.
The sales person, Charles, was extremely helpful when I told him the circumstances. He recommended a queen bed that was reasonable in price and yet was comfortable with good support when tried. When asked if I could bring my friend in on Sunday to concur with my idea to evaluate, Charles was very agreeable and gave me the name of the salesperson to see. Even though it was past closing time, I never felt rushed. Charles was very kind and professional and I appreciated this.
Sunday afternoon my friend and I went back to US Mattress to review my findings for the purchasing of a mattress and its delivery. Bob was very accommodating and reviewed everything with us. Knowing of our loved one's desires to have a bed that could elevate the head and/or feet, we approached this idea with Bob, knowing all well that it would be too expensive for our means. Not so. Bob showed us a unit that fit our needs and was within our budget. However, delivery was a concern to us in that the delivery could only be a day after our friend's move in. Bob said that he would do everything he could to try and get it there on time, but he couldn't promise. We appreciated his honesty.
It was now Monday and we were transporting our friend to her new assisted living home. The facility would provide a twin bed until her new bed arrived, however, my friend and I were very concerned that she might fall off and injure herself. US Mattress to the rescue! Somehow, Bob had worked with others to get the bed delivered on time, to our relief. Our friend was so happy with her new queen lift bed and we were, also, knowing that she was now safe.
The genuine professionalism along with compassion and understanding of a customer's needs that both Charles and Bob showed to us speaks highly of the integrity of US Mattress and their employees. Without a doubt the Birmingham US Mattress is the place to go for your...
Read moreUpdate 1/21/21: mattress finally came about an hour outside of my window. Delivery guys were nice and wore masks into my home. I had to call the store and talk to Jake, my sales guy, who informed me they often run behind because they've been really busy. If that information was told to me up front I probably wouldn't have thrown such a fit. But now my mattress is delivered and I'm happy. I think US Mattress is a good place to buy from but they need to work on communication.
Update 1/21/21: I am changing my review from 5-star down to three. It's been about a week since I purchased the mattress and it was supposed to be delivered Tuesday of this week. We were home during the delivery window yet found a notice in our mailbox saying we missed the delivery and that no one was here (the driver never knocked on the door). We tried calling the driver back and kept getting sent to voicemail. I called customer service and had to leave a message for their dispatcher who has not called me back yet. The next morning someone called to reschedule the delivery to today (two days later). Well, I've been home again during the delivery window and: nothing. Not a phone call, not a note. I called the dispatcher again and, no surprise, had to leave a voicemail. I contacted my salesperson the first time this happened and he hasn't even acknowledged the issue. If you're in Southeast Michigan do NOT buy from US Mattress. There is zero excuse for the poor and inconsistent service we're receiving. I have no idea where my mattress is (and it wasn't cheap) and I don't know why it's so hard to get in touch with someone who knows what's going on.
Original review: I walked in without knowing whether or not I’d buy a mattress today. Jake in Birmingham made it an easy decision. I explained my current situation with my over 12-year-old Serta, a spouse who runs marathons in his sleep, and the child who wants to jump on our bed. He guided me though their firmness ranking system and helped me settle on a heavenly mattress and pillow. Zero pushing me to make a purchase, Jake explained what he saw in terms of my spinal alignment while in a sleep position and gave me other observations I appreciated. He took his time to explain the way the mattress options were manufactured and how they hold up over time. I hope the delivery and setup process is this easy. Thanks...
Read moreOur customer service experience today would be an example of what "not to do and/or how to treat a new customer." We had purchased a mattress from a store in this local area (Woodward Ave, Birmingham, MI) and loved it, but now almost 20 yrs old, but need a new mattress. I am chemically sensitive and explained to Mr. Customer Service that I knew that foam "offgassed" when new out of the plastic sheeting. The response was then try one of our wool/cotton models which seemed too soft for our comfort. Back to the "offgassing" issue and our inquiry then are all your other mattresses made with foam? When I commented about the offgassing issue from the foam, I was told quite frankly/sternly, "Well I have a mathematics degree, and the foam manufacturing process involves air, and anything with air doesn't necessarily offgas in a specific timeframe. The timeframe could be in a few days, or take much long, of course you know, my specialty is Math, I have a mathematics degree (in case you didn't hear me the first time) and you need to have the data." Seriously, not only being incredulously rude, perhaps he didn't remember that I mentioned that I have MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) and I had asked if mattresses have a rating system like the carpet/rug industry does. Carpeting is sold with an "offgassing rating" identifying just how intense the offgassing will be. I don't want to put myself in any position of being near, especially sleeping on, something that is offgassing. Apparently, this was an affront to Mr. Customer Service, perhaps he thought I was joking, but regardless, Mr. Customer Service had no idea of my professional background. I'm not a scientist, but when you have been dealing with chemicals all your life, I think I know a thing or two. I decided that because this was one of my very first forays out since the COVID-19 lockdown, I wasn't going to waste any of my precious energy on his conclusions, whatever those were. You can be sure that we won't be buying a new mattress from...
