I went to go pick up my carryout order today, which was comprised of two corned beef hash, one with over medium eggs and buttermilk pancakes, and one with poached eggs and blueberry pancakes, their take on a a Belgium Waffle and scrambled cheddar cheese eggs. The total coming to $47.71, which honestly is too bad too, since normally, I always leave a 46-50% (no matter the establishment, or rather I dine-in or carryout) since I too, worked in the service industry prior to marrying my husband. However, Jodi had such an unwelcoming, unprofessional, nasty disposition, I left nothing. Promptly, upon opening the door before we even entered we were aggressively and rudely told to “wait in the line” by Jodi. We are Afro Cubans(black), there was no “Welcome to the Original House of Pancakes will you be dining in or picking up?” no pleasantries, no “Hello”, nothing. Jodi then proceeded to acknowledge all of the Caucasian people in front of us for their pickup orders, and their tables, while we standing there propping the door open, completely ignoring us as if we were invisible, another lady with a brown bouffant hairstyle and a gray front approached slightly more professionally, the Caucasian couple standing in front of us, and told them that she had a table for two. After standing there for 8 minutes without further acknowledgment, now tired of being ignored, I walked under the divider and went to the carryout desk. I asked a busser that was passing by, could he hand me my order Jodi then walked away from the podium behind me telling me she’ll be right with me, the lady with the brown bouffant approached, and I told her to hand me my order, while pointing to it dying on the carryout shelf. She handed me my order, had me sign my receipt, I made sure to put a huge zero with a line through it, put my exact total, signed and left with a nasty taste in my mouth. Upon arriving to my home 4 minutes down the road, to eat my cold food that had to be microwaved, I was disappointed even further, when I saw and tasted the corned beef hash, that tasted like canning solution, the rest of the food was below par at best, but edible. I don’t know where or who trained these people in guest services and relations but they were literally the worse and the demeanors along with the subpar food was just a little too much. I live in Birmingham so I hate to drive Downtown Detroit or to Northville, for decent service and delicious corned beef hash from Hudson Cafe, but I think next time I will save myself the trouble, and disregard OHOP altogether, even though it has been staple throughout my life when I’ve lived in Michigan when there was only the one in Southfield. Save yourself the trouble and have an enjoyable dining experience elsewhere if you’re a...
Read moreI’m really bummed to be giving this place a 2 star rating but unfortunately the last 4 times we’ve been here the quality of food and service has gone down. And I want to be clear when I say service I don’t mean the wait staff I mean the service in the kitchen. I will elaborate in my review. The last 4 times we’ve gone there is always some issue with the timing of the food. We are well aware that the baked pancakes typically take 45 minutes so we always make it clear that we want our other food first, and a Big Apple whenever it’s ready that way our toddler isn’t losing it while we wait for our food. On one occasion that instruction was completely ignored so we sat for close to an hour waiting for a crumb of our food to show up. When it finally showed up, it came out partially. I.e the omelette showed up but the hash browns didn’t. Then the hash browns showed up, then 5 minutes later the toast shows up but it’s burnt to a crisp. If I’m ordering one meal that has several components, I expect all parts of my meal to show up at once on one plate. This is a recurring trend at Original Pancake House. This establishment feels it’s appropriate to send out one thing at a time on several plates. Another time we ordered the Big Apple as soon as we sat down so it wouldn’t take too long then we ordered the rest of our stuff (eggs & sausages + Eggs Michael) two items that shouldn’t take 45 min - 1 hour to make. This time the Big Apple shows up first somehow, dry as a bone I might add, then we had to wait another 15 minutes for the rest of our food. When that finally showed up, again it was the same thing as previous. I got my eggs and sausages but not my toast. Hash browns showed up 5 minutes later. Toast took another two minutes. I bite into my Turkey links only to find them ice cold. The Big Apple was so dry it was like they forgot to add the syrup and apple to it. We have ordered this thing almost every time we have gone here so we know what it’s supposed to taste like and this was not it. It’s unfortunate that this place is so inconsistent. It’s the one thing you expect from a restaurant. If the kitchen can’t handle the amount of tables seated then maybe management needs to change the pace they seat people at. This particular day they sat us and 6 other parties all within 5 minutes which to me seems like a pretty large load on the kitchen. Overall, we’re pretty disappointed in how the quality of food and services has deteriorated at Original Pancake House. We definitely will not be going back for a...
Read moreI don't know what it is, but things are much different here now. It's been a while since my wife and I have been here. But the past few times we've come, we've had issues with our food.
Today, I ordered an omelette, and it tasted a lot different then it used to. My blueberry pancakes were pretty good, though. They were not as fluffy as usual, but still good.
For at least the 3rd visit in a row, my wife received her eggs (which she specifically asked to be hard scrambled), and they were undercooked. When she first received them today, they had pepper jack cheese in them (she asked for peppers & onions in them... twice... not cheese. (I heard her correct the server when she thought she said pepper jack cheese.) She sent them back and received the eggs back with the peppers and onions, but they were still runny and undercooked.🤦🏾♂️ Needless to say, (IF we go back) she won't be ordering the scrambled eggs again.
Then, when she received the hash browns that she ordered (once again, just like the last couple of visits), they were overcooked. I mean dark brown and completely crunchy all the way through. It's like... dude... y'all saw this when you put them on the plate and still sent them out like that. Wth? 🤷🏾♂️ I'm talking about "potato chip hard" all the way through (kinda like potato sticks). We sent them back and they brought us some more. The server walked away and literally came right back with hadj browns in her hand. Apparently, an order of HB had literally just came up (probably for someone else's order, idk) and the server brought them right to us so my wife wouldn't have to wait long (that was appreciated).
This used to be one of my FAVORITE restaurants, but it seems that the quality of the food has gone down drastically for whatever reason. I'm so...
