When the reservations were made 6 weeks prior to the stay, I was informed that the handicapped rooms did not have microwaves or refrigerators, but that they could be moved into my room no problem. No mention was made of the fact that the handicapped rooms only came with ONE bed. That TWO adjoining rooms would have to be rented for myself, my handicapped wife and my adult son. I found out the situation when my son arrived to check us in. So I made the decision to get a room with 2 "queen" beds and deal with the what was needed for my wife as best I could. The first morning housekeeping came around about 9:30, I asked them to return later as we were not yet dressed. 30 minutes later she knocked again, I asked for 15 more minutes and we left for the rest of the day. Upon return that night the room had not been serviced. I was not overly concerned at that point. The next day, same time housekeeping knocked and we would be out of the room in 10 minutes or so. She never came back, this time I called the front desk and complained. The next day we were preparing to leave, housekeeping knocked, same time, I opened the door and spoke to the lady, "Please give us 10 minutes to vacate the room for the day and then service the room. Make sure this happens, as it has not been done in now 3 days." she said something like "I'll get back to it if I can, it's not my problem." my response at this point that it would most definitely be her problem if she could not do her job. I immediately called the front desk and reported her actions and rude response The room was serviced, but only barely so. At checkout I voiced my displeasure during my stay, the desk clerk said "Oh yes you are the one complaining about the room not being serviced, well you sent them away twice, and housekeeping leaves at 3," I was out of the room everyday of my stay no later than 11. No excuse. As to the handicapped room situation, I spoke to the manager, and his remedy was to offer me a refund, and "find accommodations elsewhere" In hindsight maybe I should have accepted his offer. The previous night before this stay, we stopped at the Econo Lodge in White House, TN. The handicapped room had two REAL queen beds and was immaculate in it's preparation. The beds in Calera were full sized beds with all the support of a hammock. The bathroom is so tiny that you can not sit on the toilet and close the door at the same time. Finally the housekeeping staff is substandard and poorly trained. The management seems to be indifferent. All in all my experience reminded of some cheap, old motel somewhere, not fitting of the choice hotels brand. I have only recently started using choice, This one sets a...
Read moreI have a rather long review, but it's worth the read! I called to make reservations the day before I was to check in and was told all 4 of the rooms I needed were avaliable. I get there to check in and am informed that one of the king rooms I reserved(for my dad who is a trucker and mom who is disabled) was no longer available. So instead I had to get them a queen room(not anywhere near big enough for both of them). I was told the rate would be adjusted for the inconvenience, $2 was removed from the overall price of that room(huge discount I know). After we got checked in, I started helping my mom put stuff in her room. I noticed a familiar smell of marijuana(I was a correctional officer at my local county jail and once u know that smell u never forget it) but as the night went on the smell was so unbearable my mom couldn't sleep and has a massive migraine from it. At one point the person in the room next to her comes outside and sprays air freshener to mask the smell(which didn't work). I notified the night front desk clerk who did nothing about it. At checkout I did mention it to the day front desk clerk and was told they would take care of it. Now on to what happened with my sister who was in the room on the other side of my mom(not the "weed room" as I referred to it). She comes upstairs to my room this morning to tell me she's ready to go. She got calls at 1am of noise complaints when there was absolutely no noise coming from her room. Funny thing is it was a man who called and there were no men on staff during that time. As she is loading up her stuff to leave she sees the day time front desk clerk and her husband leave the room on the other side of her. Come to find out it was the clerks husband that called directly to her room about the noise(that wasn't coming from her room). I confronted the clerk and was told "my work life and home life r kept separate but we have a 5 month old and assumed the noise was coming from her room". I did let her know she needs to be sure before calling someone else's room and waking them up in the middle of the night. On top of all of that, she had her husband watching my mother and I from the window outside as we checked out. She knew I was upset, but I'm not the type of person to attack someone over anything especially something like this. I am 100% dissatisfied with my stay considering I paid close to $450 to stay there during severe weather in our area. I wouldn't recommend this...
Read moreOlder motel that is need of being gutted and remodeled. Our door frame looks like it was kicked in at some point, so it didn't seal properly and it let light in. The room seemed pretty clean except the floor kept making our feet black but that was probably just dust that we tracked in. Beds while comfy, seemed smallish, maybe full size or smallish full size. Rooms had a larger than normal dorm fridge and a microwave.
This motel is pet friendly which is nice since there doesn't seem to be any others in the area. Pool was closed because of the pandemic, which is understandable. The free breakfast , was your typical super basic hotel breakfast, but there are plenty of food options around all within a minute by car.
If you have a boat or trailer you will have to disconnect your trailer in order to park and hope there is space. There are no dedicated trailer or RV parking. If you have a RV, semi or maybe a boat larger than 20-25 ft, you should probably book somewhere else. When we were there, the hotel was fully booked and there happened to be about 6-7 cars with boats that all had to disconnect in order to fit in the lot. I think one person had to actually remove their tongue in order for cars to get by. The hotel sits on top of an incredible steep hill, so you can't park in the vacant land around it either.
Would be go back? I dunno. For us it met our needs for a place to stay overnight that was at our more than halfway point to our destination and they allowed dogs. If there was something else or if want to drive a bit further...
