We are huge foodies, and we have a military background which means we've traveled a lot. Our favorite foods are Mexican and Korean BBQ. We recently celebrated our 9 yr old's birthday in GA and decided to avoid all the typical fast-food joints on the highway during our trip. Wanting to save some driving time, we stopped here to place an order to go only to be met by a cold person with absolutely zero care for customer service. I will tolerate and understand a lot but just the ugly vibe off the man who took our order made us cancel our order and find another business that deserves to be supported. First, I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where they tell you if you order queso from the appetizer section, you will not get any chips. Again, bewildered but I said OK and asked to add an extra bag of chips. I wanted to upgrade the normal "salsa" that came with our order of fajitas to a large ounce of salsa. When asked about the chips that come with that, again this man barely looked at me and said "sorry, it's the rules here. No extra chips if you want larger salsa or appetizer queso. You get just one small bag." I proceeded to complete my order and proceeded to the bathroom. During this time, I was trying to let go of how this man looked at me and especially spoke to me. It upset me that I was in an establishment that clearly wanted your money and did not care about providing a welcoming food experience. This man's responses were disrespectful, cold, and certainly unwelcoming. I decided to cancel my order after using the restroom and shared my thoughts with this man about how he treated a family that was traveling and wanting to dine at his restaurant. Again, he looked at us as if he could care less, shrugged his shoulders, and said "Sorry, rules are rules". Wow was all I could say. We ended up grateful that we probably avoided getting sick or paying for mediocre food once we found an awesome, authentic food truck half a mile down the street. Our family loves to support local businesses. People come to this country with a dream and should never take for granted the customers that walk into your business. Again, every Mexican restaurant we've ever been to has always been welcoming. The people work hard and go out of their way to make customers happy. Not here. I would avoid this place if you are ever traveling. Google other Mexican places and you'll find that authentic taco truck we mentioned earlier - that man deserved our business. If you want an establishment that only cares about taking your money and provides a horrible food experience, this...
Read moreThe food as always was very good. This visit however did not have the usual comfortable feeling. A friend and I had not seen each other for some time and were catching up prior to arriving. Time snuck up on us. As such we did not arrive until about 940PM but I felt we would be ok since the restaurant indicated they were open until 10:30PM. They normally get you in and out quickly.
We ordered and our food was delivered. Right at 10PM, the management, all gathered at the front of the restaurant began gesturing in our direction and talking in very hushed tones among themselves. At one point, one of the managers came by the table and we apologized for having arrived late. That did not appease him at all. It was then I advised him the website showed a close time of 10:30PM. I did ask if the restaurant was open until 10:30PM, why were they rushing us out? He then said they closed at 10;00PM. Even this didn't faze him and they continued to the point my dining partner just stopped eating and suggested we go.
Look, having worked in food service, I fully understand wanting to get out on time. However, as in other industries that deal with the public, there may be the occasional night when you may have to stay a bit late. My issue was not with the service staff's desire to get out on time on a weekend night. My issue was with the management team who worked very hard to make us uncomfortable enough to leave before finishing. Management should know better. Management should be setting an example. Again, I realized our error in arriving late that evening, but being that the restaurant indicated it was open until 10:30 and they were normally pretty quick, I felt we would be okay AND It was the first time for my friend visiting the restaurant. Very poor first impression. I could very easily have taken him to any one of several Mexican restaurants in the Calera area, but I chose Zapopan. I guess next time I should be a little bit more open to trying other restaurants that serve the same food and not rely so heavily on one restaurant.
I still say though, management should know better and should be setting an example and should not come over to a table and all but argue with the customer about the closing time when it was clearly on their website that they closed at 10:30. It's sort of reminiscent of the old saying " Well Mrs. Lincoln, other than that, how did you...
Read moreStopped today on an 11 hour trip. The greeter who seated us was, at minimal, cordial. Our waiter had a very hard time understanding our order and had to ask us several times to repeat it to him. This would have not been an issue, but he seemed perturbed that he wasn’t understanding, as if we were speaking some type of substandard language. Upon leaving, the lady at the front, as we exited, seemed to glare at us as we left, as opposed to being cordial and polite. In addition, I ordered a taco salad, and the ground beef was soggy and cold...the flavor was just okay, at best. My husband described his food as “something being off about it;” and “sour.” Chips were tasteless and stale, with salsa that tasted canned. Do yourself a favor and just go to the Chick-fil-a down the road, and you will most assuredly receive warm friendly service as well as great food...as they have managed to embody this type of service in every establishment we have experienced (and trust me, we have...
