I really wish I could give a zero. I lived here for over a year. (Unfortunately I had nowhere else to go at the time) stayed in room 211. My toilet didn’t work.. at all.. No working amenities. Fridge was constantly creating Nats. Yet I cleaned that thing out all the time, and it always turned completely off then back on for like 1 minute then died off again. Anything in fridge or freezer went bad 24/7. I had milk that went bad the same night I bought it because the fridge did NOT work. SMH. The AC/HEATER did NOT work, EVER! My husband actually pass out and had to be taking to ER in an ambulance because the room got so hot and we had no AC. The office and Alfred and Ms. Alicia refused to care. Our toilet leaked horrible to the point of setting 111’s fire alarms off. (BTW fire alarms in my room never actually worked — my room could’ve been on fire but I would’ve had to wait till smoke got to hallway and under and through my room door before I would know) We actually had to turn off toilet water after every use but it got so bad we just had to keep it off. Then they decided after a year that they wanted us to leave because the smell in room was unfair to other clients. I’m sorry what? Did you tell them we’ve been calling and “told” we were put on list to have toilet fixed for the whole stay? No? Just wanna blame us and take no responsibility?! Ok, Cool. Oh and they were telling other ppl that they have tried to tell us to take our our trash and blaming it on us like we did take out our trash and got attacked by the 50 dumpster rats in the process, and the smell was from the toilet that we couldn’t do anything about until they fixed it which they never did. I told them we were not going to be kicked out like that and that they needed to order a new toilet and Alicia said ok I am going to order a new one for you and so I said ok. And they never actually got us a new toilet. I also told them we have been here for over a year we will not be leaving just with a 3 hour notice. So then two months later we got an eviction notice. They originally wanted us to move rooms but we said no and refused because they were gonna use the new room to say we have only been in that room for a couple of days and then kick us out. They almost got someone else kicked out that way too. So I said helllll no. Well we eventually left before the eviction even went down because we found a new place and I had just had enough and I have an autoimmune disorder and so that room made my flare ups bad. I have been dealing with flare ups for several months even after moving because it was that bad and the halls were horrible too and managers getting high on the job. And employee Brittany getting high on the job. And then coming outside and saying you need to stop smoking weed because you’re stinking up my laundry room. (I was smoking a cigarette) when me and my husband went inside, we walked passed the laundry room and Britany was in there literally (I cannot make this ‘ish up. lol) smoking a J with her daughter, and doing her own laundry there and had the room hotboxed. I then went to the office later because I needed something and man o man her eyes were bloodshot and barely opened. It was hilarious I caught her in the act and she thought she was slick and had no idea I knew. And when I first moved in she was like if you smoke weed don’t do it inside here because I will have to fine you and I have fined people who are upset because they say well I didn’t smoke weed and I’m like yes you did because I smell it. Like Brittany I don’t believe you I literally caught you red handed. She probably charged all those people for her smoking weed. The only decent people even working there was Lana, and another lady who can’t remember her name unfortunately and one of them left and then Tiffany and in my opinion. Lana should have been Assistant Manager and Tiffany should have had Alicia’s job. SMH. Well, when we did actually leave, they apparently put a notice on our door. they were trying to tell the Sheriff’s that we wouldn’t leave the property lol....
Read moreNote: My star rating is largely based on what I would term a highly negative experience with both the hotel and its manager. However I have tried to provide objective information about the hotel.
Let's start with the positives: The rooms have a dishwasher and disposal (big selling point for me). Cooking therefore is much easier for those staying that long. Location has easy access to several express ways and while not close to the airport is relatively quick given its distance from the airport. There are numerous restaurants and shops for essentials within easy driving distance. The rooms are relatively large with a nice sized bathroom.
Negatives: Hotel staff is definitely hit or miss. The mid shift desk attendant was very helpful. Overnight is not capable of doing anything more than handing out towels. The day shift personnel I encountered were not necessarily rude but were unpleasant to deal, unnecessarily confrontational and very defensive. Housekeeping was in my experience virtually non-existent. When this topic is broached the staff was defensive, unresponsive, and unapologetic. While the hotel was "renovated," my "renovated" room had a non-functioning disposal, backed up kitchen sink, and a microwave which caused the master breaker to the room to trip leading to no power in the room. None of this was helped by a manager that never viewed any issues as being something to be resolved professionally but as something to be argued.. This led to a lot of drama and adversarial interactions with several guests and ultimately with me.
My Review
For the money per night, I would say this hotel is a step up from other economy tier "extended stay" hotels both in price but also in terms of in-room amenities that are in close proximity (Extended Stay America, Uptown Suites and WoodSpring). On the other hand the mid-tier Extended Stays (Staybridge, Hyatt House, Homewood Suite, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites and Home2Suites) are all much nicer, within blocks of this hotel and literally within ten dollars in price.
For those used to an Economy experience you'll be impressed, on the other hand if you're coming from a mid-tier experience this place is a huge step down. (I literally watched a dog do his business in the elevator lobby.)
Also understand that Choice hotels are all independently owned and operated so hotel policies and standards are NOT universal (that is to say if you'd stayed in a "nice" MainStay somewhere else this not an apples to apples comparison) and the Choice Customer Relations personnel have no capacity to assist you. The experience at the hotel is entirely based on the manager's performance.
Full disclosure, I had a terrible experience with this hotel and its manager so i'm biased on which side of ledger I'd come down on in terms of whether to stay here.
My Bottom Line: If you're willing to pay 75 to 85 dollars a night for a room, there are much better options with less drama, cleaner rooms, better staff, and functioning appliances within blocks. Given my experience with the hotel, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, its unfortunate because with a better manager, better staff and customer service this would not be an altogether unpleasant hotel. Unfortunately no renovation can deal with...
