Updated: it got worse!!!
So far it's about 4:20 pm, after calling at 9am and checking in via the app, we are currently sitting in the lobby waiting for the eventual cleaning of our rooms. Lots of complaints from other guests while I was in the lobby. Meanwhile my family sat, getting stared down for monopolizing the single luggage cart the facility has. What else could we do but sit and wait.
After finally getting to our room we found that one of the two rooms we rented the door didn't lock unless you full steam ran into it to slam it shut. This added some mystery and excitement to our trip not knowing if we'd come back to our room being completely destroyed and broken into. Our room that my wife and I were staying in was next to the ice maker which convenient sure, that is until a connecting pipe sprung a leak and flooded our room.
Don't worry The front desk had a solution... Ignore us from the phone until we physically walked down there and demanded somebody to help us. They sent the maintenance guy up who I will admit is an awesome human being and did everything in his power to help us however the only solution that could be had was to put a giant floor drying fan in our room which made it impossible to hear the TV or sleep.
We were issued a free breakfast for all of our inconvenience and stress related to the inadequate facility and incompetent management here. This was the Continental breakfast you'd get at any other hotel for free.
Naturally after our breakfast of powdered eggs and microwavable pancakes, we wanted to go for a swim and start our day off with some sun before we got out into the city.. on a Saturday at 11:00 a.m. the pool was closed for maintenance. It needed to be treated. You'd think there'd be a regular schedule for this that wouldn't involve shutting down the pool on a Saturday in the summer. I feel like a Tuesday might have been a better time for that.
As if all of that wasn't enough, our room was dilapidated, the furniture was dinged and damaged the bedding was dingy and old. In addition to that the wallpaper around the water access point on the soffit near the bed was all peeling off because clearly there had been a water leak there in the past. Which might explain the freezing cold and burning hot showers that couldn't be mixed properly. The temperature would fluctuate from scalding to ice despite not touching the mixer.
The manager of this facility was eager to let me know that he managed 11 other properties. I only hope his other properties aren't in such disrepair and understaffed like this one.
We paid north of $500 for both of our rooms for the two nights that we were there and I feel absolutely robbed. If this is what the Marriott bonvoy brand is all about I'll never visit another one of these establishments.
I was certainly not the only guest inconvenienced by this weekend's garbage fest. And I'm sure I won't be the last. This hotel might have been good at one point but it is absolutely fallen off. I would never stay here again and I would never recommend anybody else...
Read moreOverall, we had a great stay, and the bed was comfortable. The bathrooms and shower were nice enough. Nothing fancy, just the tub/shower combo. Looks like they've redone the hotel decor at the very least in the last 10-15 years. It's located in a great area, probably less than 2 minutes from I-225 and then 20-30 from the airport from there. We never got a chance to try the hotel restaurant as they were closed by the time we had wanted breakfast (9:45 am) and dinner (8:00 pm). One of my favorite parts about my stay was the lack of interference from housekeeping on the day of checkout! It is so amazing when you can just check out without hearing the housekeeping staff ask you if you're ready yet every 10-15 minutes which is something I frequently encounter at other chains such as Holiday Inn, Hyatt, and Hilton and is a major frustration. However, as with all places, there are a few flaws here and there that I will highlight that could be easily improved. The parking lot and main entrance is very uninviting and appears more as an office park at first sight rather than a hotel: some new less formal shrubbery/trees as current ones seem to ne struggling, some fresh paint, and 3even a repaving of the lot itself. The lobby is really nice and as with other parts of the hotel seems to have been remodeled within the last 10-15 years. We stayed on the 5th floor, and when arriving on the floor, one of the things I noticed immediately was it looks as they replaced the elevator call buttons on all the floors with a smaller panel but the stain left on the wallpaper and drill holes from the older and clearly larger panel were never addressed which feels off for a Sheraton property. The lobby was the only floor this problem did not exist on. The hallways were well kept, easy to navigate, and overall good. The room was as to be expected from any hotel experience opted for the King Suite, which was well stocked and equipped for our stay. Overall, I would definitely stay again if I was traveling for work, headed to the airport, or was just doing a quick overnighter. But I think I would stay at either the downtown location or maybe another chain with more room and more updated amenities. But overall a really...
Read moreIn the past I have been very displeased with the lack of (or certainly perceived lack of) authenticity and all around customer service offered from the overnight associates a the way up to and including management. It was my regular experience to be lied to, and/or blatantly denied membership tier benefits ranging from compensation to enhanced room upgrades. All the time earmarked with an embarrassing and condescending undertone.
Granted, during the most recent benefit year I could attribute perhaps 15 paid nights where I chose another, less convenient property as a direct result of the aforementioned experiences. I did elect to ignore them from time to time simply because I enjoy the property, and particularly the sky view suites. (The very tight restrooms have become a familiarity and non issue). The Sheraton Denver/ Lakewood West, has in my limited recent stays provided the customer service I would like to expect and could teach the Denver Tech Center staff some valuable lessons in customer and especially Elite Member service. The property just lacks the suite variations and accommodations that we have (most of the time) access to in the Tech Center.
However, this particular stay, was much much improved and the staff were significantly more pleasant and held themselves out as authentic, and genuine during our interactions. I could sense the massive overhaul in staff performance and integrity and it was refreshing. Thank you for that!
I won’t end on a negative note, and couldn’t, but in the spirit of sustaining growth and continued improvement on both the corporate and personnel levels I look forward to the continued improvements in morale or otherwise and I am confident that the business and financial aspects that, solely based upon perspective, and a broad one at that, may have a desired or necessary gap to fill where this location can recapture market share. Great job to the team that I had the pleasure of dealing with for this short stay. It’s exciting for me to anticipate returning under these new...
