So…I didn’t expect much from a no frills hotel but the experience was worse than I could have imagined. A tad bit comical but unfortunate.
We stayed at this hotel for a wrestling tournament and paid $125 a night - a little higher than the average - nearly double, likely due to demand.
When we checked in (2 adults and 2 kids) we noticed the sign that said “due to a staff shortage, there would be no cleaning during our stay”. No biggie.
Because there was 4 of us, we asked for 4 keys and were denied because they noted they would run out with the busy weekend. After some convincing, we got 3 keys and headed to our room.
The floor was sticky in the bathroom, there was a sewing pin on the carpet (ouch), hair in the bed, a substantial crack in the ceiling, one bar of soap, and 3 towels. Since there is no cleaning service, we were wondering if the room was even cleaned before we got there.
The crack in the plaster happened to be above our heads on the bed….we were wondering if it would fall on us in our sleep. Thankfully we were unscathed.
To add insult to injury, there was zero working internet service.
We asked the desk for another towel because there was 4 of us and 3 only towels but were denied. The woman working the front desk was rude and told us that she was not allowed to give out towels. My husband started getting heated and arguing for the extra towel. We finally insisted the woman call the manager who then approved us to receive a single towel.
Fast forward to the next day - we skipped the breakfast so no comment BUT when we returned after a day at the tournament it was literally pouring water into the common area. When my husband noted the leak to the same unfriendly woman at the front desk - she glared at him. Note - it was not raining outside.
Over the years of staying at budget hotels for wrestling and dance, this takes the cake asTHE worst hotel experience. Being run down is one thing but the uncleanliness, lack of supplies, and terrible customer service will forever keep me away from Baymonts in the future. Stay at...
Read moreThere are two things I need when I’m staying in a hotel... a place that is both SAFE and CLEAN. My room had huge issues when it comes to cleanliness. I had to wear my shoes at all times because the floor was not clean. There were Chinese food droppings from the previous guest on the carpet between the bed, there was what appeared to be a blood swipe on the exterior area of the tub, and the tile and carpet was sticky. When I went to use the hair dryer, it was sticky also, and whatever was on there transferred to my hand. I was really grossed out.
Generally it seemed like their housekeeping staff didn’t care. Their apathy shone through in the rough state of the rooms, poorly made beds, etc. I can understand an older property would show signs of aging (which it did), but the grout-turned-black from non-existent cleaning and sticky surfaces are not acceptable.
Regarding safety, the metal part on the door that is supposed to prevent the door from being opened more than an inch was broken. The metal on the part that moves was completely deformed/coming apart and in need of replacement.
There was also an issue where the toilet clogged and I called the front desk to see if they could send someone to plunge it; the response was, “well, I can provide you with a plunger”... so I had to do it myself with an old plunger I was given wrapped in a garbage bag. Accompanying the plunger was the front desk employee who blamed the water flow issue on the rain/sewer system. (AKA not my fault... so why was I having to plunge it?)
I will NEVER stay in this hotel again. The only thing it had going for it was the price. So...
Read moreI just checked out 20 minutes ago I had a 6 night stay. Let me give an honest review. The rooms are nicer than expected, 100% clean, & up to date. Building looks healthier from the inside than the outside, which is amazing to see in the hotel biz it’s usually the other way around. The staff here is so nice and helpful, as well as the owner / owners family. They’re really great people I really liked them even just to talk to. Very personable people. Room service is absolutely amazing and also extremely nice people they work so incredibly hard. The only downfall in my opinion was the beds ( and I can’t fault Baymont for this because this is a personal preference but one to be aware of.) Beds here are extremely soft, you will sink in deep there’s not a whole lot of support so if you do have back problems that’s just something to be aware of. However some people love those kinds of beds.
Also some people are saying location is bad.... in Champaign the north side is where all the hotels, shopping, and eating is at. You’re right by all the retail. This hotel is located next door to Mercedes Benz. Superb location.
We’re in a time when hotels like this that have served their communities for decades / generations are STRUGGLING to make ends meet. Some hotels are making cuts, some are dying. These owners have bills and families too so I’m happy I was able to support them in a time where business has obviously been interrupted. Thanks again Baymont family! Hope to see you again soon!
All in all, no real complaints. I was taken care...
