The Good: The staff are wonderful. Can't say enough about how well our questions were answered and needs addressed. While the hotel is older and the rooms are worn, it is also very clean. All aspects of our room from the bathroom to the beds to the kitchen to the utensils were clean. Well done! The beds were comfy, no sagging mattresses. Plenty of space, always good to have a fullsize fridge, a stove and an oven and a microwave and a dishwasher - all worked well. The location is wonderful. 10-12 minutes from UNC Campus, but also a Wegmans basically across the road for food needs. Plenty of parking. The lobby bar is open weekday evenings, and there is a surprising selection of liquors for a small hotel bar. We did not try the in-house dinner menu. There is also a pool table, which we enjoyed. We did not try the swimming pool, but it did look clean.||||The Average: the pillows were those collapsable kind and by morning you need at least 2 on top of each other; the towels were OK, not rough like some hotels; the breakfast was included but the food is only OK with limited choices. We supplemented with some of our own so breakfast didn't get monotonous. Only one waffle maker for crowded breakfasts causes a long line. At least 2 mornings the breads took forever to be re-stocked. I don't think the breakfast is staffed to deal with a full dining room. I guess if you are an early riser, it should be fine.||||The "could be better" - two sets of outlets in the kitchen did not work. Only the outlet where the microwave was plugged in worked, so we had to squeeze the toaster in as well. We mentioned this to management as we left - was only a slight inconvenience but still shouldn't happen. Laundry is available - 4 washers and 4 dryers on the 2nd floor. We never had to wait. 30 minute washer and 30 minute dryer cycles. $1.00 to wash; $1.50 to dry. Came in handy but it was annoying that if you chose to wash in hot water, the washer won't work. Only on cold and warm. It wasn't just 1 washing machine, we tried all 4. So obviously that's done by management on purpose - sneaky way to try...
Read moreWe spent two nights while visiting colleges in the Triangle. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everyone was diligently cleaning every time we walked in/out of the main lobby and dining area. We had a one bedroom suite with two double beds and a sofa bed for our family of 5. Overall, our stay was average. The exterior of the building and the grounds are well maintained. The interior of the building and the rooms are a bit dated, tired and worn, although everythng was very clean. The sofa had some small stains on it and the lighting in the shower/bathroom was very dim. The "wood" shelves in the bathroom were chipped. The sofa bed had sheets on it from the previous guests. We removed the sheets and placed them in the hallway. The pillowcase on the extra pillow for the sofa bed was not clean, so we contacted the front desk to request clean linens. We were told we could pick them up at the front desk, which is located in another building. We did not receive housekeeping services while we were there. Clearly, the hotel is very understaffed. We always look forward to breakfast at the Residence Inn due to the variety offered. Sadly, the breakfast was just average. The eggs were bland and we ended up eating boxed cereal (limited offerings), yogurt, and bagels. The danishes were cut in half and wrapped up in saran wrap, which gave a "cheap" appearance. Although masks are required (and signs are up indicating this) and worn by almost all staff members, it was not enforced with guests. Hand santitizer and gloves were provided at breakfast, but we seemed to be some of the few people using them. The pool was refreshing and clean and towels were available at the front desk. Room temperature was comfortable and the AC worked well on such a warm weekend. The queen beds were ok and due for replacement. We were visiting colleges in the area, so the location was good. The area is well lit and we felt safe. The staff was very cheerful, which was greatly...
Read moreMy husband and I traveled to Chapel Hill for a Tarheels game on 12.29. We had reservations for overnight. We decided we would stay an extra night if there was availability. We arrived around 2:50. We were able to check in and extend the extra night with no problem. I noticed the decor immediately. There was a beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby. Nice artwork was throughout the hotel. The ambiance was very warm and inviting. The front desk person was friendly and interactive. I was surprised when we entered our room. It was nicely decorated and very spacious. I didn't expect to find a full-size refrigerator, but there was one. There was also a microwave, a two burner stove, a small dining table for two, and cabinets stocked with kitchen essentials. A free breakfast was provided. The food selections were very good. I especially enjoyed the waffles with strawberry chipotle jam and whip cream. We enjoyed the bold coffee as well. The only setback we experienced was because of the extra day extention. Although we were told the extra day would update automatically. After we returned from dinner on the extra day, neither of our keys worked. We could have prevented the frustration of not being able to get back into the room when we went to breakfast earlier in the morning, if we had been told we needed new keys. This was a minor issue. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We decided this will be our lodging choice in the future for our visit to Chapel Hill. This was our second trip here. The first time we stayed at a newer place, the cost for one night was more than two nights at the Residence Inn. I found the place to be overpriced, the food was terrible and the atmosphere was not inviting at all. I'm glad we chose the Residence Inn this time. I'm convinced newer does not...
