I have been a regular customer since the Guglhupf Bake Shop opened in Chapel Hill in 2017 (the main, full restaurant is up 15-501 in Durham and is also excellent). It is my favorite place for a latte, pastry or breads.
Yes, there's often a line, but that's because so many people also love it. Everything here is delicious, and I will gladly wait a few extra minutes to get their baked goods and drinks. Guglhupf has the best chai lattes I've ever had.
The staff is all very friendly and welcoming, even when it's super busy. I often see staff chatting with regulars too. Once, when the wrong drink was made (I may not have said my order clearly enough, so it wasn't necessarily their fault), the barista apologized and made the right drink without questioning it. Everyone is just so kind, I always leave smiling.
I've tried most everything: rolls, croissants, scones, brezels, danishes, schneckes (which means snail auf Deutsch because of the spiral shape). I also got a chocolate birthday cake here. It was decadent. Everything is amazing. My favorite savory item is the cheese brezel. I recommend warming it up. And my favorite sweet item is the mandelhörnchen, which has marzipan. Yum!
There are a few small tables inside and outside, and it's very pleasant to sit outside on a nice day. The parking lot is always crowded, through no fault of the business. There are a lot of other businesses for a small lot, so I always park on the other side, away from the Trader Joe's and Ulta, and never...

The location has taken my feedbacks seriously. When I visited again, the staffs were very friendly and conscientious with how they pack each pastry and polite. Thank you for addressing the criticism in such a mature and professional manners. Again, the pastry here is so delicious- best in NC!
Previous: I love pastries here but so sad to see the cashier staffs being so unprofessional. First of all, this staff member was cleaning the floor then straight went to picking up my pastry, using the same gloves he was wearing cleaning the floor. I was shocked how unhygienic it is and wondering if this is how they are trained. When I purchase multiple different types of pastries, it’s a common sense to bag them separately to prevent them sticking all together. I respectfully asked the staff to bag them separately then I was ignored. At the cashier, I asked the young man again if he can bag them separately. He grudgingly brought another bag and threw one pastry in there, again with the dirty gloves. I tried to be understanding as it was nearing the closing hours but that does not give excuses to the staffs to be so unprofessional and rude.
I might or might not come back to this location, as I was very disheartened with my experience today. I hope staffs are more properly trained to be hygienic with how they touch and bag...
Read moreI stopped in this afternoon to ask to speak with the manager of the CH store about the mass confusion with order pickup that took place on Dec 24th. The manager was not in so I asked the 2 employees who were present today and also on the 24th if they were thanked or compensated in any way during this very crazy and disorganized time for folks to pick up their Holiday orders. They said that they were not thanked and it was a very trying time for them. I do not know if anyone else out there experienced the lack of planning and the long wait time to pick up pre-paid orders that day as well as the poor packing of those orders. I had many broken Gingerbread Cookies in my order. The young lady who was handling the counter all by herself did find some cookies to replace the broken ones but it was a 30 minute ordeal. I hope the management learns from the mistakes made over the Holiday orders and is prepared to serve the customers and support the their staff better next year.
The items were yummy but for the price I expect the service to...
