After reading all of the positive reviews, we decided to stay here rather than at the hotel in the area that our conference was being held at. I regret that decision. ||When we went to the room we were first assigned, after taking a look at it, it was clear that it had not been cleaned in anything more than a cursory manner. There were sour patch kid candies on the carpet by one bed, and fake nails laying on the carpet by the other bed. There was also obvious powdered insecticide on the floor around the headboard area at the top of each bed and heavily stained mattresses indicative of a relatively recent infestation of bedbugs (and we found evidence that they may also still have been in the room, despite the presence of the insecticide powder). ||After that discovery in the first room, we immediately went back to the front desk and asked to switch rooms. The gentleman at the front desk was very gracious and apologetic, and immediately switched us to a new room on a different floor. ||Unfortunately, the second room was not much cleaner. There were red marks on the wall by the toilet that, at first, we thought must be makeup due to the fact that it was still a bright red colour. However, it turned out that it was relatively recent blood that was also smeared on the side of the toilet, including by the handle. The mattresses in the new room were also very dirty and stained an orange & rust colour at the heads of both beds, with staining along the sides which was clearly indicative of pests. There was leaked food by the mini-fridge, pieces of food in and around the couch, and the room was generally dirty. ||Despite requesting cleaning from one of the housekeepers in the hallway on the second day, no one ever came to clean the room or change the towels. ||In addition to the unclean nature of the room, on the second day we were there, someone's (clearly dirty) socks were in the elevator almost the entire day. ||While my friend had to stay in the area for the full conference (and was unable to secure other lodging due to the last minute cost to do so), we both avoided being in the room as much as possible, despite the fact that we had booked the room we did in order for us both to have room to sit and get some work done. I couldn't stand how gross the place was and decided to leave after the first two nights, once I no longer needed to be at the conference, to go stay at a difference hotel downtown. ||This place was absolutely disgusting and I would encourage everyone to avoid it.||The only reason I have given this hotel two stars is because the front desk and breakfast room staff were lovely...
Read moreI stayed here 1st of October for 4 nights. 2 weeks prior to my stay, I called and inquired if breakfast was free, because I had read conflicting reviews. I was told yes. A few days before my arrival, I called again and asked. This time I was told no due to a very recent change in policy. Hurricane Helene had JUST ravaged my city in SC as well as others in NC & GA. Charlotte was minimally affected, so many flocked to their hotels and most were booked to capacity. I had been without power for almost a week so, I literally had to discard TONS of refrigerated/frozen foods. I was looking forward to this trip, but was disappointed because I felt the breakfast change was enacted to capitalize off weary travelers to generate more revenue for their hotel. It was $8 + tax per person which isn't that costly unless you have a large family staying, but I was told you HAD to dine in vs taking it back to your room and it was NOT all you can eat. VERY disappointing. I also asked if I could check in 2 hrs early. Was told yes, but I would be charged a $50 fee! It wasn't even worth it when the room itself was only around $120/night since I booked months in advance. I requested a handicap-accessible room which was very nice, clean and spacious. What I didn't like was, their handicapped rooms were the very last rooms at the END of the hallway! Why do handicapped people have to walk or roll farther from the elevator than all the regular rooms? Make it make sense! Other positives: location is ideal to restaurants, shopping & highway. Property is newer, decorated tastefully & they had night security. I didn't smell weed which is a HUGE plus! Other negatives: I was in & out several times a day/night during my 5 day/4 night stay. Most of the front desk staff never even spoke, greeted me or said/did anything above and beyond. Cell phones and private convo amongst staff was seemingly more important. Parking was a nightmare! I noticed several vehicles EACH day/night parked in handicap spaces with NO handicap plaquard or tag displayed. They should have received a citation by the hotel or towed. I requested my room cleaned once. The maid didn't speak English which was frustrating when I tried to ask for extra trash bags and makeup removal wipes. She was quick & friendly though, so I made sure to give her a tip. I'm normally accustomed to staying either at a Hilton or Marriott property, but still...I expected way more...
Read moreRoom is good. Breakfast has a charge now for everyone except guests with elite status. Not worth the price. Franchisee also thought honoring Globalist 4pm late checkout was “subject to availability.” No. Only casinos and resorts have that option. This location is neither. ||They claim the breakfast is “elevated,” but it is the same breakfast that used to offered free for all guests. The problem Hyatt Place has with charging is they want to be Courtyard but they built a brand that includes breakfast in the US. Trying to change this to a charged breakfast requires providing more than what used to be free. For example, having a cooked to order omelette station.||For Globalist 4pm late checkout, we had meetings in Charlotte and wanted to come back and shower before heading back home at the end of our last day. The front desk person said “oh, it’s subject to availability.” Except Hyatt T&Cs say that it is guaranteed for all properties except casinos and resorts. This hotel, just off the interstate and near UNC Charlotte is neither a casino nor a resort. Still, he went off somewhere to see if he could get permission for a late checkout. He came back 10 minutes later and said “3pm.” I shared it’s in the T&Cs and he said “I’m just doing what my manager tells me.” He never acknowledged what he was saying was different from Hyatt’s commitment. We were staying on my wife’s Globalist status so she shared this experience with her Concierge. We did not hear anything from the hotel’s GM. It’s a shame, because we will likely return to this hotel given its relatively new and proximity to where we frequently have meetings. We hope the management has a more compliant attitude with Hyatt policies. If we find inconsistency with the brand, then it will make us hesitant to stay at Hyatt Places or all of Hyatt’s family of hotel brands all together.||Rooms are nice. TV works. It’s a hotel to stay at to be comfortable in the room. Views are of a Cheddars restaurant and their...
