It appears that service has gone down. Either they’re hiring folks with no background in sushi and not training them or they’re not hiring enough folks in the kitchen for sushi orders or both. For some time I used to come here fairly often for AYCE sushi, but I started participating in solidarity fasts and my diet changed so AYCE became not as feasible. I stopped by twice lately to place a la carte to go orders. Both times I ordered nigiri (sushi). First time I tried to place an order for 1 order of salmon nigiri and 1 order of eel nigiri. The two ladies at the checkout couldn’t find the nigiri on the menu (it’s listed as sushi). It took them a while to figure it out. They found it, placed it, I got it the rest of the process went smoothly. Today I go by fairly hungry. A different person was at the cashier. This time I say sushi. 2 orders of eel sushi, 1 order of yellowtail sushi, 1 order of eel sauce and 1 order of ponzu sauce. (I understand the eel sushi is cooked, it makes sense for it to take longer than the yellowtail. Should I be expected to wait this long for it, though, I’m not sure I’ll want to order it!). Receipt says I placed the order at 1:31pm. First takeout order that I saw was ready around 1:40pm. I saw at least one more takeout order ready. I asked her check in on it around 1:45. Every time I’d see one ready I’d get up thinking it’s mine only to be told by the person it’s not mine yet. It comes close to 2pm and it’s not ready yet. I go up wondering why it’s not ready yet and the person at the cashier tells me that there are other orders they’re taking care of. Like she’s putting me in my place or something. (At this point I’ve been waiting for about half an hour for 6 pieces of nigiri, no apologies or explanations provided up to this point). It’s not like I don’t understand they’re also taking online orders, AYCE, a la carte orders, I do. Which is part of why I don’t understand how a simple order like mine can take this long. And even worse when the person up front tries to explain to me “how things work at a restaurant” - the person’s words not mine. The only explanation I got was that things take a while to cook, to roll, and they don’t have a lot of people at the kitchen. I didn’t order anything to roll and it’s not on me if they didn’t hire enough folks in the kitchen to cover AYCE, a la carte, and takeout. I have recently been to Open Rice in the middle of the day on a pretty busy day and ordered a whole fish for takeout. They were very helpful and kind and even apologized for the delay. No you don’t have to be Open Rice. I like Open Rice and Magic Sushi for different reasons. But please respect your customers, hire enough to cover the need, and train the people you hire on types of sushi and on de-escalation rather than escalation. This person escalated a situation that could’ve been handled with a lot more grace. They’re the one that should be checking on food, not me. And I shouldn’t be getting side eyes and a talking to when I check what’s wrong why it’s not yet ready. I thank the manager (owner maybe?) for checking in on it at the end and making sure I got my order (I left around 2pm or shortly after). I wish it were handled with a lot more grace from the beginning - the experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

Me and my boyfriend went and tried Blacow in University for the first time on New Year's Eve and we were blown away. The food was so unique and put together beautifully and the taste did not disappoint. Nina was our waitress and she was incredibly attentive and such a sweetheart. We didn't have a long wait at all, our food came quick. We had a matcha green tea cocktail and a cosmic something that is now my favorite mixed drink ever! (I should probably learn the name) My burger was cooked the perfect medium and was so delicious. We tried the Summer Roll and the Pink Lady Roll and both were amazing. I'd have the Pink Lady Roll again hands down. The fries were so good and homemade ranch sauce for dipping. We tried the Thai wings and they were so crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the sauce was delicious. I love the fact you can get a bento box with a burger and sushi and edemame and fries and a cucumber salad. We had cheesecakes for dessert and let me tell you, the creme brule cheesecake is one of the best cheesecakes I've EVER had and that's saying SO much. Cheesecake is my favorite. The creaminess is unmatched. The crust is beyond perfect. The crunchy sugary top was incredible. The prices were so great and affordable. The atmosphere is excellent. It's in the old Taco Mac building (we loved Taco Mac, it was our first date) but Blacow is even better!! Definitely recommending this to everyone who enjoys good food and drinks. We will be coming back to try more. There is a huge menu with a ton of unique tasty-sounding options so there is plenty reason to come back. 😋

Needed food so my friend and reviewed a list of restaurants we had yet to sample and decided on Blacow. Bonus the menu looked amazing and other reviews were good. Parking wasn't too bad, I was fortunate enough to snag a decent parking space. I didn't notice any handicap parking but it was chilly and I was walking with purpose not to mention at 6pm now it's basically pitch black outside. We were seated right away after a short wait to the front of the line. We opted for a booth in the far back versus waiting for another table. We ordered water and the Bang Bang Shrimp right away, as we had already reviewed the menu. We also ordered the Pink Lady Sushi Roll to share and we each ordered a turkey burger (The Gobble and The Hawaiian) and split them so we could taste both. The food was delicious, so delicious in fact, I ordered take out for lunch tomorrow. Overall, our waitress Luz was very friendly and helpful. The only issue we had wasn't with the service or the food it was the timing of the meal. Our sushi ended up coming out first, not a major issue. The appetizer was delayed and our food was taking longer than I anticipated(about 40 minutes). Luz came by and checked on us a few times and indicated the kitchen was backed up due to an issue that had to be resolved forcing a domino effect of delays. The food was really the star here and I look forward to going back.

This was my first time with any Sushi place. I opted for Sushi All you can eat. To start with Location is accessible and better suited for someone who is within UNC area. Dining experience was good . Food quality is ok no complaint over there .It is not out of the world neither subpar. Miso soup : I never liked the taste , not sure is it genuine taste issue or Since I tried first time so not sure . I am not used to it .

Avocado Salads : This is the best things I had over here . The sauce or whatever they used it was really great . 5 star. item.

Crab Rangoon: This thing is tasty and served with some sweet sauce .When served was at slightly above room temperature. I guess they put chesse within this thing . I would not recommend if you are on diet .

Tamago (Su) : This can be good option as topping on any dish . I could eat it but was having hard time because of slight smell.

Magic Roll : This was good thing to try out , but little bit sweet for me.

Shrimp Fried Rice with vegetable :Shrimp was cooked properly little salty . Vegetable were good . I don't like the rice , i felt it was not well cooked .

I had another role was crabmeat in it it was from chefs special. Topin was Tamago eggs some mango was in eat. This was something great . Overall I would. recommend this place once in a while , if you have taste buds for Sushi , you may like it. I don't dine out . It is just once in a year...
