I recently stayed at the Hilton Charlotte University Place in Charlotte, NC on Friday, August 23 - one night - with a check out on Saturday, August 24. I booked the room via Priceline (Confirmation #775449914). If I am not to the first, let me be the first to report this is the worse HILTON I have ever visited.||||I am a DJ and radio personality and I travelled there 3.5 hours DJ an event with the hopes that the hotel would provide me ultimate rest. . . to the contrary. When I arrived at around 7:45pm, I must say that the front desk folks were great. I was given my key for a 3rd floor room and when the doors of the elevator opened, I was slapped in the face hard by an overwhelming aroma of marijuana. I continued to my room to freshen up and meet my friend for dinner. Upon leaving the room, I observed a very bad fight . . . very bad . . . there were about 7-10 individuals in the hall yelling and fighting . . . one girl was being drug down the hall towards me and she was naked from the waist up . . . I was unable to get off the floor as the fight was happening because they were fighting in front of the rooms just outside the elevators. I retreated back in my room and looked for the hotel phone in my room to call security but there was no phone in my room . . . I searched everywhere to include the desk . . . NO PHONE. (See photos) Then I tried to fine the phone number to the hotel on my cell to call the front desk but could not get an answer. I just waited and hoped that someone else on the floor would call. Finally, I heard the yelling stop, I peeked out my door, saw no one and ran down the hall to the elevator to get off the floor. As I got near the rooms where the fight was occurring, I could hear yelling inside the room. Once I got downstairs, I did not see anyone as the desk, so I left to meet my friend for dinner hoping that when I return things would be better. About an hour and a half later, I returned to the hotel and stopped at the front desk. Again, I was met with courtesy with the clerk as I explained what happened before I left and requested a new room on a different floor. They informed me that the kerfuffle was cleared up and those involved had been escorted off the premises . . . they obliged with no question and reassigned me from the 3rd floor to the 11th floor. I went to retrieve my suitcase from the 3rd floor and the smell of marijuana was WORSE and though they said the issue was cleared, there was still door slamming and loud yelling . . . I quick grabbed my things and rushed up to the 11th floor. ||||The next morning, I checked out. Though there was a discrepancy in the check out time, (Priceline indicated 12noon, but the hotel said 11am) I was successful in checking out. As I was leaving my keys, they asked how was my stay . . . I told them of the incident the night before understanding that this was a morning crew and they may or may not know . . . they apologized for the 3am disturbance to which I replied 3am? No -- my incident happened at approximately 8pm . . . apparently this had continued and came to a head again at 3am to which they said the police were called. The female clerk was very apologetic, but the manager seemed to careless. He saw that my reservation was third party and from that point as I was talking, he was looking out the window and ignoring me . . . he offered no apology or no incentive for a future stay etc . . . I was so shocked as I have never had this from a HILTON????? Needless to say, I will NEVER stay there again...
Read moreIt is extremely rare that I write a negative review. However, I must warn anyone that is going to book this hotel through Expedia. I have been using Expedia my whole life. They have been faithful many years. However, with this hotel, don’t do it. Friday night I called the Hilton hotel number that I found on their website. I spoke with a lady to let her know we would be arriving late and to confirm our reservation. (Now I am worried that after hitting all the buttons with the operator, I was not speaking to the hotel but to a Hilton representative somewhere else.) Anyways, she informed me to use the Hilton app so that I could get into our room with my phone. I requested that, it said pending for 4 hours. We arrived to the hotel at 1am. A man came over and asked “are you here for a room? Because we don’t have any rooms available” and I said we have a reservation, I called earlier. Here is my confirmation number. He said “trust me, if I had a room, I’d give you a room but we have 0 rooms. I don’t know what to tell you. Your confirmation was never assigned a room. Did you not pick a room?” And I said what do you mean, I made a reservation with the lake view weeks ago. He said, “I’m sorry. Maybe there are some other hotels that are open. You’ll have to call Expedia to figure this out. There is nothing I can do.” I contacted Expedia and they told me this man marked us as a “no show” and so we couldn’t be refunded. I was so upset I couldn’t sleep. We went to 8 different hotels and they were all fully booked. After crying and feeling defeated, we “slept” in our car the night before a huge race. We then went back to the hotel the next day, and a nicer lady told us that what the man did was wrong, and he should have helped us find another hotel. However, she said she did have a room available now, but she said she could no longer use that booking through Expedia. She made it seem like it didn’t exist anymore. So now I had to purchase a new room with them, and contact Expedia again. Long story short, I had to contact Expedia and the hotel multiple times to get a refund. The hotels manager wasn’t willing to break away from “policy” at first until I spoke with them. Then, they finally accepted the refund. Everyone makes mistakes, but if what Expedia told me was true, then that man lied. We were not a no show. We also had a reservation and they had 0 rooms for us. In my opinion, they should have at LEAST gifted us a free night the following day. At the very least. I’ve never had anything like this happen with a hotel before. The hotel itself was beautiful. I’m really sad that we had this experience, because it was lovely. I’d be afraid to ever book there...
Read moreMy wife and I chose this hotel while vacationing in Charlotte for the recent Fourth of July holiday weekend, because we were visiting friends and this was close to their location. Upon arrival, we noticed that the parking situation was different (more on that shortly), and also that the main doors were out of order so we had to use the side doors to enter and exit the hotel. After checking in, we found that the rooms were nice, the shower was pretty good, and didn’t have a lot of complaints overall. However, on the second day is when the chaos started. For starters we had gotten late check out for noon, however from 10AM until we left, we aggressively got knocks on our door by housekeeping every 15 minutes. My wife repeatedly told them we had late check out, only for them to come back again. Finally I started answering and after being assertive about how many times the door was knocked on, they finally stopped. Upon checking out, we got out to our vehicle and noticed that the back glass was shattered and it was broken into. Thank goodness nothing was stolen, but my vehicle was damaged. My wife went in and spoke to the front desk, and they informed her that they had had a string of car break ins recently, which would’ve been nice to know prior. I also did not notice a police presence on the premises while there, especially if this is a recent occurrence. They were nice enough to send a few people out to wrap our window and get the glass out but this issue ruined our vacation. We ended up having to call the police, who again reiterated this has been a problem in that area, had to scramble to find a vendor to fix the window on a Saturday afternoon prior to departing home on a 15 hour drive, and paid almost $600 for the damages. My wife sent them all the information, and we still have yet to receive correspondence over this. We are exclusive Hilton patrons, and use them anytime we travel, however personally could not see myself staying at this property again as the whole ordeal ruined my experience. I would warn anyone to watch your vehicles while here because people are not above damaging your property and you’re stuck with the bill because of course the hotel isn’t liable even though they knew this...
