I was disappointed in my experience at Goddess and the Baker on Madison. I feel that maybe they are too busy to pay attention to detail regarding each customer and their order(s). My spouse and I were married at court down the street and came for a late breakfast. We both enjoyed the açaí bowl and morning sandwich. However when they brought the food, they asked if we also had a drink. When I told them the drink order, they threw their hands up and walked away. The drink was delivered and it tasted good. However, when I went to order a couple of pastries to take home, the cashier again was not too friendly as I paid. The breakfast was $30 and the take home items were $20. Paying that much money, I would have expected more care to package the pastries. They were delivered combined into 1 bag and they were smooshed. The frosting from one pastry was all over the other. The presentation in the case was beautiful and I was let down by the product I walked away with. Again, the drink came out separately, and the barista was kind and remade my drink for me. Other than this one person, I got a bad vibe from the staff. I think they are likely too busy to pay attention to detail for each customer and their order(s). Too expensive for a below...
Read moreGoddess and the Baker was the closest bakery with breakfast food we could find near our hotel, specifically because we were trying to find something with fresh juice. I was also hoping we could get some fresh bagels, but it’s actually really difficult to find good bagel shops in Chicago. Don’t worry, I’m not attacking Chicago because of this. There are plenty of cities that I’ve been to that somehow can’t make a bagel taste as good as NJ/NYC which is where I am from.
Anyways, my husband ordered a “fresh” juice & I ordered a vanilla iced latte, and we both decided to share an Impossible Breakfast sandwich. After waiting for what felt like less than 10 mins, our food came to our table with the prettiest presentation. My iced latte had a little muffin on top of it, and the fresh juice looked like a tropical beverage. The coffee was good but not the best I’ve ever had (the muffin was delicious). The fresh juice didn’t taste like fresh juice. It tasted like they thinned it out with too much water and added sugar in it. The breakfast sandwich was a perfect meal for my husband and I to share though. Overall, the place was nice but I had higher expectations. Still good for...
Read moreLoved the idea of having gluten free options but it was a disappointing experience. First I asked the cashier about their seasonal matcha flavor because I had seen something about it online but forgot what flavor it was, she said there were no seasonal flavors and said what's on the menu is all they had. The matcha I ordered was great but as soon as we sat down I saw the printed ad about the seasonal flavor I had asked about, feels like the cashier should have known about that. The gf muffins were dry and crumbly, not very enjoyable. The worst part was we hadn't even finished our drinks yet when an employee, she seemed like the manager, asked us to leave. I understand it was busy but we had just finished a bite of our muffin crumbs and still had half a drink left when she said she needed space for new customers. We paid just as much as any new customers and should have at least been allowed to finish comfortably without being rushed out....
