When I research hotels at which to stay in any large city (or anywhere honestly), noise is a big dealbreaker. The Sable is “tucked away” at the far end of Navy Pier, which eliminates all downtown noise, but there’s still some ferry and jet ski sounds you might be able to hear. Here’s the full scoop:||- Location: As aforementioned, this property is right on Navy Pier, which gives seamless pedestrian access to all kinds of essential Chicago attractions, as well as unparalleled skyline views. I observed how it was often confusing for DoorDash drivers and even taxi drivers to route to the actual vehicle entrance (which is all the way down the end of Grand Ave, the narrow road forming the northern side of the pier), but it’s doubtful the hotel could remedy this in any way. ||- Atmosphere: The lobby is interestingly quite small, and finding it was at first challenging, since a large portion of the ground level space is presumably event space…but I don’t actually understand what it’s entirely used for in general. But the reception area is well-kept and distinctly boutique-hotel-vibed, befitting the goals of any good Curio Collection. ||- Service: It seemed that all the staff went or were willing to go above and beyond for guest satisfaction. Ernest was super gracious and accommodating in coming up to my room to help open my water bottle caps (as I have a disability making it hard to do so independently), and one of the women at the front desk in the afternoon (wish I got her name) assisted me with an açaí bowl delivery that, let’s just say, got messy! Moreover, the workers at the on-site restaurant, Lirica, adapted quickly when I realized my wheelchair-accessible taxi was arriving earlier than expected, boxing up my breakfast to-go before it came to my table. Thanks to all who work tirelessly at this property!||- Rooms: Floor-to-ceiling windows in every room don’t hide any of the marvels you’ll get mesmerized by outside. There’s crystal clear Lake Michigan waters, ships and boats in the harbor, iconic Chicago towers in the distance, and fireworks on Wednesdays and Saturdays! As I said before, there are no automobile traffic noises, but you will hear the traffic on the water here and there…it wasn’t a problem for me, and any noise stopped promptly around 9pm. I never heard any neighbors in adjacent rooms either. ||I fell in love with the fresh-looking blue carpeting, the shiny bronze materials used in the furniture and decor, and the subtle nautical theming throughout. All was clean, well-maintained, and simply aesthetic. The floorboards were noticeably creaky when I walked or rolled along them, especially in the hallway, but I suppose it’s the nature of the building. Outlets were extremely plentiful and in multiple types (USB-C, USB-A, three-point, etc), and technology in the room in the form of a tablet at the work desk was excellent. ||All in all, a huge bravo re the rooms.||- Value: For a property literally atop Navy Pier, people do (and rightfully should) spend a good amount for the privilege to stay here. Summer rates are no joke, but I paid with points, and it was decent for me. You’d sacrifice the summer weather, but if you wanted to maximize the value of a stay, booking for the winter would be a ton cheaper with all the same things to do and see in the area. I’ll probably do that next time!||Hilton should be proud to have the Sable in its portfolio. I highly...
Read moreWe recently stayed at this hotel and aside from the beautiful view, this was not worth the price! First, we booked the fireworks package which included cocktails to be delivered to the room at our requested time. We made sure to plan our pier schedule to be back in time for this, but it showed up almost 30 min late. Which isn't the biggest deal, but the drinks were terrible!
The room was not quiet at night. When the air conditioner wasn't running, we could hear people speaking loudly through the air vents - not very sound proof! We also booked a handicap room, which was not very spacious for a wheelchair. The bathroom was good, but everything else was a tight fit. If you need a handicap room - you may want to get a suite for the space - but again, not worth the cost.
Also, our room was missing items. We did not have a door hanger to request privacy in the morning. When I called the front desk to ask for one, they said housekeeping would bring one up. They never showed so I went down to the lobby myself to get this. This wasn't a big issue, except the next morning we realized we didn't have any coffee cups or just cups in general in our room. I called the desk and they said someone would bring them up. After an hour and a half waiting I went to the desk to get them myself - the man at the desk said they have no cups to give me and will have someone bring them up. He was not interested in helping me. I was going to get cups from the coffee shop in the lobby - but shocker no one was there. By the time someone came with cups (over 2 hrs later) we were already packed up and ready to leave. I thought we could take our coffee to go but they brought no lids for the coffee cups.
At this point we were just ready to leave. When checking out, the lady wasn't friendly, didn't ask how my stay was, didn't say anything other than take the room keys and said "you're all set". No "thank you for staying with us", nothing.
I wouldn't normally complain but for what we spent for a night here, I feel like all the rooms should have the standard items most hotel rooms just have and not have to hunt them down. The customer service wasn't great and hearing people talking through vents is something I expect from a motel room, not this type of hotel.
Save your money and either book a fireworks cruise or stay at another close by hotel with a view that cares about the customers that stay there.
*UPDATE: Called the hotel as requested below. Was put on hold and was told that the manager would be speaking with me. Sat on hold for 30 minutes and then I disconnected the call. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this point.
*2nd UPDATE: I submitted online feedback per the comment below weeks ago and no one responded. The generic response from management is just for show. These forms get forwarded to the hotel management so hopefully this shows you don't always get what you pay for. I had a much better experience at a Holiday Inn Express I stayed at a few months back - with amazing customer service - at hundreds of dollars less than this place. Like I said, you really just pay for...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!! I had stayed at this hotel multiple times over the past few years and their service is so horrible now. My friend and I arrived the hotel around 9PM 8/8/2025. They offered us a room with a strong unpleasant odor, broken curtain, noisy fan, and broken telephone. We could not make a call and had to go downstairs to ask for a room change. However, the front desk refused to switch room, saying the hotel is fully booked. So we asked for a cancellation of our stays. Then the front desk staff asked manager to process our request, and manager gave us another room on the same level. No one explained the inconsistency in their claims about room availability. Then we went to the new room and we accepted it because it was really late after the whole hassle. After 5-10 minutes entering the room, the A/C started to blow hot wind and we never touched the AC. We could not switch heat or cool mode by ourselves. We called them again asking for help and they just hang up on us when we were elaborating our situations. We have to set the temp down to 69 degrees, and waited it to cool down. However, the thing is, if it got cooled down to 69 degrees (too cold for us) and we wanted to make it warm, then it will start blow hot wind making the room hot again. So, we would not be able to rest in that room the whole 2 days battling with the A/C temp. Again, we needed to go downstairs to check with front desk because they hang up on us. Surprisingly, the manager is outside our room when we headed out. We were just about to told him that the A/C was not working properly, he opened our door and said it's cool and threatened to report us to the Hilton system. Of course it was cool because we turned it down to 69 degrees and the temp cooled down for a bit. He did not even try to understand the situation and said he went to the original room with two other colleagues and there was no odor. When I brought up about the telephone and the curtain of the original room, he just did not respond and said he would report us because we lied about the odor and A/C. Very good gaslighting skills. We were furious and said we are checking out for full refund. The manager said he could waive our first night cancellation fee and cancel the second night. So we left the hotel at 10 PM. I also canceled the booking in the following two nights with them for my anniversary even I knew I might be charged for $680 cancellation fee. We finally stayed at another hotel with the same price but with nice service, clean room, and good A/C. I will never ever stay with Hilton. There are just too many other options. I made an official complaint about the whole experience with Hilton and I have to post this review to let everyone know....
