Silver Spoon Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Chicago

We stepped in and sat down and waited.  We're given menus and waited.  3 couples and 1 gentleman were the only ones in restaurant.  A couple came in and sat down and were actually waited on before us and also orders taken.  We finally were able to order.  We both ordered diet coke, one without ice. They deliver in a can so don't expect any refills as they charge even more. We ordered a chicken rice soup and 10 minutes egg rolls to start. We watched the other couple that sat down after us enjoying their meal while we were ordering. That's how long this was taking. We ordered red curry entree and a beef entree. Portion sizes were small considering other restaurants. The red curry is listed as bei g spicey, NOT. The red curry came in a bowl like a soup and was so bland it was like eating milk. Mini egg rolls were not bad. Chicken rice soup wasn't bad. Both entrees were lacking in Thai flavor. The place is also quite filthy. They have tiles coming up on the restaurant floor and a badly fix job of other tiles. Another couple were also complaining about the food while were eating. There is way to many restaurants close to this one and way better Thai than this one. I do not recommend this restaurant as a place to even try. Don't waste your money. Go to some of the other establishments and spend your good hard earned money. Worst meal I have had in years. She also wouldn't give me a breakdown of how she came up...

The place is popular for sure. My friend and I went past 8:30pm, and they were quite full. They initially had one waiter and one waitress to manage the entire place; the waitress seemed to have gone off a bit after though.

We ordered a beef pad thai and a chicken green curry. Pad thai came out first, but the green curry didn’t come out for almost an hour. The table next to us arrived way after we were seated, and their foods came out first. When we were trying to reach the waiter, before we could ask anything, he gestured us to wait and walked away. He then served the tables next to us, while still ignoring the fact that our food did not come out yet (even though we got there first). We suspected that the green curry order did not go through to the kitchen. We finally caught him to ask about the curry; 10 minutes later, the waiter brought it to the table with no words - no apology, literally not a word was spoken as he placed the curry on the table. Later when he brought the check before we even asked for it, he said “sorry for the wait” as he was insinuating us to leave.

I understand the busyness of the restaurant, but I do not understand nor condone this disrespectful behavior of the restaurant’s staff. I wish they would train better for customer satisfaction.

The food itself was mediocre, nothing too special.

We picked this place after seeing many good reviews, but in the end we left with a bad taste...

Caution to be aware that 18% (post tax) gratuity is added to a party of 6 or more! We ate there with 4 adults and two kids.

There is no warning of this anywhere on the menu, store front, or anywhere else in the restaurant...in fact when they hand you the bill they don't even tell you they included the tip. They try their best to trick you by putting the total as one number (not showing the taxes split out) and the auto-tip on another line. At first glance it looks like the auto-tip is the tax.

I brought this up with the server later...they claimed it's on the menu but after checking...admitted it's not indicated anywhere.

Now I completely understand that it is fairly typical for many restaurants to do this for larger groups BUT it's always indicates on the menu or elsewhere. This place does not warn you in advance so I almost tipped on top of auto-gratuity !...I just don't like how sneaky this was.

As for the actual service...it was abrupt, not rude, but also not friendly. Never checked in during the meal. This type of service doesn't bother me. But def not considered good service...

As for the food, honestly it was good. None of the 'spicy' dishes were made spicy but flavor was good. It's a shame they tried to get tip...
