Typical newly-renovated Courtyard property, so, fine, you think you know what you're gonna get (if you've stayed at a Courtyard before).||I'll lead with compliments to the staff: all pleasant and chill. A particular shout-out to the Assistant General Manager Lorbie Salvador -- fantastic. She really gets it, and is great (amidst a system that can seem inconsistent or inefficient at times).||Now, some mixed-review details:||Renovations are currently ONGOING (6/19/23). I received an email 2 days prior to check-in that the front entrance is off-limits due to driveway reconstruction. Gotta enter via side door. So if getting rained-upon as you schlep from car to building with your stuff doesn't bother you, then fine. I dig staying dry under a covered driveway, but maybe that's just me. Just would've liked to know ahead of time (like, when I booked?). Hope that's done when you book.||Our suite was indeed spacious and clean. Drapes and blackout curtains very effective, if difficult to adjust.||Don't be deceived by listings/reviews/pictures that indicate a pool. NOPE, NO POOL. I inquired directly and was told they haven't offered it for 6 years! ||And a tarp covered the firepit (I THINK that's what it was) smack in the center of the deserted courtyard. Not great optics. ||At least the exercise room was real.||If it matters, this IS/IS a pet-friendly hotel. I'd seen conflicting info on that.||Now...the pricing. Surprisingly high for the time of our stay, in ALL aspects, for a suburban hotel located hard by the intersection of two interstate highways. I booked well in advance for an event (like, 5 months prior) and periodically tracked the rates for typical fluctuations/specials/etc, and they only climbed. Biz must be good; they claimed a sellout and that's likely true. But, hoo boy, those firm rates did surprise me. As did the $6 bottle of water in the room. And the ONE tiny crappy coffee packet (for a suite with TWO occupants). Again, bad optics at best.||Starbucks and food served in the lobby cafe are no bargain. Breakfast for 2 (eggs-n-such) with coffees were pretty good...for $40 + tip.||Just stuff to bear in mind so you're not surprised. ||Not knowing what other accommodations are nearby, I guess I'd return...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed June 5th through 7th, 2015. On the way, driving through that section of Rye, with its industrial look, cheap strip malls, poor housing, and laundromats with fat women and their children on the sidewalk, I feared the worst. Fortunately, after all that, we found the Courtyard to be an oasis. Outside, the grounds were beautifully kept. Unfortunately, parking is barely adequate. Two (unused) electric car recharging stations take up 3 of the best spaces, and unless you luck out, you will park 100 yards from the entrance. The door to the pool area doesn't close properly. The "keys," often a problem, worked perfectly. The hallway carpeting, with weird, African-style stripes, was not to my liking. The rooms had shortcomings. I prefer overhead lighting, but instead there were area lamps, converted to fluorescent, which threw out little light. The TV channels changed slowly. The dial on the iron was illegible. The waste baskets were too small. The bathroom was the worst part of the suite. The lighting was inadequate for putting on make-up. There was no carpet to step on when exiting the shower. The shower head wouldn't stay where it was directed. There was no shelf for shampoo, etc. There was no vent, generally required by building code. There was no heat lamp, or the equivalent, to take the chill off, coming out of the shower. Still, with its cleanliness, the TV, the fridge, the coffee maker, the iron and ironing board, a perfectly functioning heater/AC unit, and the wi-fi, the suite was adequate. To make up for some shortcomings, there was an outstanding staff, from LaShanda, Sean and others at the front desk, the custodial staff and the maids. All were super friendly and helpful. They are...
Read moreMarriott keeps letting me down. Got to the hotel realizing I forgot my work ID. I showed the night audit person my insurance card, business card, explained that I was a platinum elite, and even called Marriott reservations and they all told me that if I didn’t have my work ID or work credit card, then they will have to charge me the regular rate. Instead of trying to take care of me or being nice about the situation, the night audit person was rude and made me lose it (in which I apologized for - but still!). The night audit person kept telling me that “this is a corporate owned hotel and they follow the rules here.” And basically if I didn’t like that, she would be happy to cancel my reservation and we could find another place to stay. The next day I found a picture of my work ID on my phone and showed it to the front desk person (another lady) and she too denied my corporate rate. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that made me feel so uncomfortable and embarrassed. Because I upset the night audit person, she gave us a bad room. As you can see from the pictures, the towels were dirty and there was construction going on in the room. On a side note, the remodel of this hotel came out nice. Clean and modern furnishing. At checkout the operations manager checked me out and asked about my stay. I didn’t bring any of this up because I just wanted to get out of the hotel. Sad to say, this experience is making me rethink my brand loyalty. And I will definitely not come back to this hotel. In the end I paid for an overpriced and not enjoyable stay. I even had to sacrifice some of my points to cover this unexpected cost of this uncomfortable and...
