Definitely don't trust the high reviews on this place, at least as of recently. The lobby and pool is great but that's about as far as it goes. You will blow a fuse if you use the microwave at the same time as anything else on the same fuse. I also heard other hotel goers blowing a fuse as well so it's not just a one-off issue and apparently the hotel blamed them for blowing the fuse by simply using the microwave and something else at the same time. There are roaches everywhere on every floor. The WiFi is practically unusable and tops at about 2Mbp/s consistently and disconnects often. Do not come to this hotel if you need any sort of WiFi speed for work/communication. There is no elevator for people with lots of luggage or unable to go up the steps. The stall doors in the men's rooms by the event rooms don't have working locks. You have to physically lift the door up for it to grab the lock in one of the bathrooms and the other one simply doesn't work. The fitness room is just a stripped out hotel room with 3 machines and no weights. There are only two washing machines for the entire hotel and one of them is broken so it took hours for an opening to wash clothes and its a long walk to get to the machines. I was in 2 different hotel rooms and none of the bathroom locks worked and the doors to the hotel rooms don't close behind you. The water heat is inconsistent in the showers. One second it gets scolding hot and the next it's ice cold. The ice machine by us didn't work. The breakfast selection is decent but gets old very quick. The event rooms themselves are good but had a...
Read moreI had to attend a conference here in March. I reserved a room in December as soon as the conference registration was confirmed. The day before the conference I get an email from the Inn telling me my reservation had been moved to a Super 8 across the street.
I booked a room at the Inn because that's where the conference was being held and as a vendor we had a booth setup there - and didn't want to have to carry booth items very far. (Believe me - this hotel is nothing special. I stayed there last year for the same conference and it's old, dilapidated, smells, the staff have no concept of customer service and the facilities are on par with an inner city boys club. However, we stay because of the convenience with the conference.)
When i called to ask why my reservation was being cancelled and moved to a different hotel - the 'very friendly & knowledgeable' front desk clerk provided a lame excuse about just receiving a PO for a block of rooms for government attendees...? My room was reserved on a credit card 3 months prior.
Do yourself a favor, if you have the option - keep driving right on past the Village Inn to Greensboro and stay at the Grandover. It is infinitely cleaner, nicer, with better facilities, golf, and a professional and courteous staff. Oh yeah - and the understand the concept of a...
Read moreThere is no way this is a 3-star hotel. The mattress was absolutely terrible. It actually had a noticeable dip on the left side. I felt like I was sleeping in a bowl. The mattress was mounted so far from the headboard that I lost all but one pillow to the gaping maw during the night. No towel bars at all in the bathroom, just a single hook. Not that important to me as I was only staying one night, but someone staying for a conference might need to keep it in mind. The "hot breakfast buffet" was a paper bag containing a small raisin bun, a small pack of Kellogg breakfast pastry bars, a nature valley almond granola bar, and some kind of almond butter breakfast bar. Thank God I'm not allergic to nuts. If you're not actually going to serve even a continental breakfast, take it off your list of amenities. The "Free Fiber optic cable internet connection" is an absolute joke. The "free" WiFi is limited to 3 mbps, though the best I got was 760 kbps on a speed test. I really think I would have been better off staying at the Super 8 next door for...
