First and foremost, the property appears aesthetically pleasing due to its newness, and the housekeeping team is doing its best. They are efficient, friendly, and always sporting pleasant smiles. The check-in process was initially smooth, with the front desk staff being friendly, smiling, and professional.||However, that marked the beginning of a steep decline in my experience. Despite my simple requests, such as a few extra hangers, I endured the front desk staff's contemptuous treatment several times. Each time, they made me feel like I was making an outrageous and unreasonable demand, responding with scowls and consistently delivering rude retorts. Unsurprisingly, my pleas for hangers fell on deaf ears, and I was left empty-handed.||My quest for quarters to use the Laundry Room proved equally exasperating. Each interaction with the front desk staff was met with curt and dismissive replies. Initially, I was assured quarters would be available when the manager arrived, typically around 9:30 AM. However, when I returned at 9:45 AM, I was informed that the manager was strolling the grounds. It should have been the staff's responsibility to request quarters from the manager upon their arrival, ensuring they were readily available for me. Instead, I was told to come back later. Astonishingly, even my wife received conflicting information when she made inquiries. Upon my return, I was greeted with yet another impolite response. The irony was that my clothes suffered the fate of a wet and broken washing machine. While I would typically attribute this to an unfortunate mishap, it seemed fitting given the consistently abysmal level of service I encountered.||Although the breakfast itself was of excellent quality and freshness, the demeanor of the breakfast bar staff left much to be desired. Fortunately, as mentioned earlier, the hotel's novelty and cleanliness allowed for a somewhat enjoyable stay. Nevertheless, we resorted to using side doors to avoid further contact with the front desk.||Lastly, there were glaring indicators that the staff needed more competence and diligence. The pool displayed a revolting shade of green, signaling negligence by those responsible. Additionally, one of the doors remained out of service, causing inconvenience. To top it off, the shower revealed a broken and empty shampoo bottle, showcasing a blatant disregard for attention to detail.||Following the incident with the washing machine, I felt compelled to express my concerns to the General Manager. Unfortunately, his response indicated a sense of helplessness, despite his awareness of the issues. I genuinely pity him for his inability to rectify the situation. Moreover, I refuse to take the mistreatment personally, as I observed the front desk staff consistently subjecting other customers to similarly unpleasant...
Read moreIf I were to rate this solely on service, location, and cleanliness, this hotel would get 5 stars. I had a complimentary upgrade to a suite from a regular room, when the thermostat was broken I was immediately moved to another room (both were impeccably clean), and the staff were friendly and welcoming for our week-long stay.
However, we chose this hotel in the hopes of getting a good night's sleep. Not only did we not get much sleep, but I left after a week with a really messed up back/neck/shoulder.
The beds are SO HARD. I prefer a firm bed, but these were thin and they had no padding at all. The springs were digging into my back and when I tried to move to my side, my arms fell asleep. They were just impossible. Flipping in this bed left me in agony, but I had to constantly flip because my body kept falling asleep due to the terrible mattress pressure.
Next was the blanket - it was so thin, and we were there during extreme cold warnings (13 degrees in Memphis? wild!). I was shivering all night, even with cranking the heat. The second blanket in the closet wasn't large enough so it only covered one of us at a time, so we switched off. Which was doable, since we were both awake all night due to the terrible beds.
Last, the pillows. They were the worst I've slept on in a hotel (and in most motels). The down pillows totally flattened to nothing with zero give, and the foam pillows were completely lumpy and left a huge crick in both of our necks. We asked for a couple of extra pillows but they were the same as the ones provided. It was awful. We had to drive back to New York and both of us had stiff necks, making safe driving a challenge.
At one point we tried sleeping on the pullout sofa, but that was worse. I got a few naps in during the early morning on the couch itself, folded back up, but man - this bed situation was really unfortunate, because everything else was lovely. The staff, the location, the cleanliness, the breakfast, the amenities - I wish the beds were different so I could go back to this hotel.
We visit family in Memphis 1-2x per year. We typically stay with them, but that is no longer an option. Unfortunately, neither is the Fairfield in...
Read moreOverall, this hotel is fine. It was clean and located next to a mall. We didn't arrive until about midnight so my experience with the staff was limited. Now, because we arrived so late it is especially important that everything just work as expected because we were too tired to do anything else. Our room was a king suite consisting of a bed and a sofa-bed that was divided by partial walls.....not really enough for privacy but to just give the appearance of separate rooms. I made the sofa bed with sheets that were in the closet area but there were no extra pillows besides the ones on the main bed. I was too tired to go down and ask for more, so I just gave my kids mine. In the dark, we struggled to get the light switches to work in the separate areas and has to rely on desk lamps. The next morning, we figured out that there was a "main" switch that had to be turned on before the other two switches for the bedroom area and the sofa area to work independently. It wasn't exactly complicated after I read the labels the next morning, When you arrive late and just start flipping on switches and nothing comes on it seems an unnecessary extra step. The two areas had a nice big television each except the remote control worked for both of them and every time you did something on one of them, the other would do the exact same thing. The room did have loads of USB charging ports, and the bed was firm (if you like them that way). The sofa-bed was not very comfortable but that was expected since they...
