We'd been going to a competing hibachi restaurant (let's call them Brenniedonna - the names have been changed to protect the... um.. aforementioned perpetrator because I'm classy like that) on our special occasions to eat hibachi before or after we took road trips a couple times a year, but this time we were running later and decided to stop by Styx on the way out of town, expecting to have a mediocre experience at best. I mean, come on! It's not the prestigious place that "Brenniedonna" is (supposed to be... no, seriously), and when we called they said they could seat us quickly on a Friday night which made us critically raise our eyebrow even higher - how could they offer us even good service on such short notice?
Oh, boy were we pleasantly wrong.
From the gentleman who answered the phone to the hostess who quickly seated us, to the waiter Bleek, and especially Philly Sr, our hibachi chef, our experience was miles above anything we'd experienced at the other place. The food was delicious and at a great price (nearly 80 dollars less for a meal for 3, with the same quality food if not better, before tip!) We even asked for the manager there, she came in a few minutes not knowing what to expect, and was of course happy to receive our praises. We sat next to a friendly family who were happy to converse with us and tell us all about their own love for this place. We shared the opinion that if you're going to have a restaurant in the mall in Collierville, you'd best have your game up, and we agreed that Styx surely did!
Great for the family, the staff is glad to serve, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the chef is entertaining and skilled at his trade, and I can't think of another place we'll be getting our hibachi itch scratched. It was so great we're afraid we'll never have a better experience, but we're ready to be...
Read moreWe visited Stix Collierville yesterday. Sadly, we did not get to try the food due to the absolute rudeness and disorder of the individual that met us at the Host podium. We had been extremely excited to try the place. We had a gift card and a day off, so we took the hour drive to get there. Upon walking in, there was a guy that just stared us down for a minute, then finally came over with great attitude and stated they were closed. Since there's a realtor lock on the door, and half the place is currently covered in plastic and in construction mode, we were unsure if he meant permanently. So we asked for clarification. To which he seemed more annoyed and stated they don't open until 4:30. It was 4:25. We apologized and said that was fine, we would be happy to just stand and wait in the lobby. His response was no, we need to just leave and come back when they are open. He then turned and walked away, without acknowledging the line of people behind us that literally went back to the doors. We were going to just wait outside the remaining 4 minutes so we turned to walk out. The lady behind that overheard what was said to us, stated she wasn't leaving and she wanted to see him try to tell her that. The rest of the line followed her lead. There was so much hostility and construction fumes in the air, we chose to leave and never come back. We will try the downtown location. My advice is if you are not open, don't leave the door open for people to walk through and ditch...
Read moreI appreciate the accommodation of my reservation within 72 hours however I was clear with the hostess that due to the change in previous plans I wasn’t sure of a headcount but it would be 10-13 guests. She said let’s reserve for 13 to be safe. 10 guests arrived and they fused to seat us until all guests were there or they’d cancel the reservation. After speaking manager we were sat. Due to the size of the party they treated us as two separate tables that’s fine however if we got up to speak with another guess we were told we could not Move as it was against the rules. There were upcharged for everything. They offered to deep fry my already cooked sushi role for 1.50 extra , the menu was not clear pricing wise. I was offered a salad or soup or double rice not all 3 which is pretty standard at any other hibachi establishment. I agreed to double fried rice and was told if you get that option it’s 1.50 extra (menu doesn’t state this ). Service was subpar. The drinks lacked alcohol and were very sweet/syrupy. The next day I had several friends or family that were sick. Food was very underseasoned. They charged extra for sauce for sushi, initially the role was dry when it came out and no dipping sauce options or was not topped with any sauce. I will not return or patronize...
