Do not come here unless you want little more than a bed. My biggest gripe right off the bat is that there was no coffee, which it to claims to provide for free.
The bed was old and the box spring was visibly disintegrating. The comforter had multiple burn marks. The "cleaning" staff did not change the bedding, sweep, or mop during my 3-night stay. They made the bed, swapped the used towels, and provided additional soap and shampoo... that was it. I left a $20 tip on my second night hoping they would maybe sweep or something but they left the tip there and did nothing "extra".
There is no coffee maker or alarm clock. There were no lamps of any kind, only potlights whoae switches cannot be reached from the bed. The "desk" is notched out of the dresser and there were no power outlets nearby for a laptop. There's an ethernet outlet but it does nothing, so Wi-Fi is the only option. The chair that accompanies the desk is an extremely uncomfortable, four legged, 60+ pound monstrosity with disintregrating upholstry and covered in stains that appear to be from bodily fluids.
There doesn't appear to be any weather-stripping on the door so bugs can (and do) occasionally stroll in under the door. There was no facial tissue. Oddly enough, there was a safe in which one could store valuables. Paradoxically, the fact there is a safe makes one feel unsafe. Plus, I wasn't offered the combination to access the safe, so it was useless to me. I brought my work laptop with me everywhere. There is no sound insulation, so I could hear every step in the room above and I could clearly hear the television in the room beside me. It would make sense for adjacent rooms on the same floor to have mirror image floor plans so that a TV isn't on the other side of the wall from the head of the bed, but that wasn't the case here.
There is no lobby of any kind. There was a lobby at one time, but it has been converted into a storage room and is very unsightly (glass walls full of junk). The one person that was the only employee I saw during my stay (and likely the owner) talks to you from behind a glass window while you stand outside, as if you were at a sketchy parking garage or an old grimey movie theatre. The inside of his office reeks of urine - yes, it's that bad that you can smell it from outside. When I checked out, I didn't recieve so much as a "thank you". In fact, he seemed annoyed that I rang the bell when I suppose it was assumed that I would use the key drop off at the ungodly hour of 8am. They claim there is parking but there are less parking spaces than rooms, and the spaces are very small. The people with SUVs purposefully take up more than one spot so they have room to open their doors. I had to park on the street all 3 nights. There was litter strewn about the parking lot and many guests seem to put their food garbage in the corridors outside, I suppose to avoid drawing pests into their rooms. I didn't see any cockroaches as some other reviewers have claimed but that could also be because I didn't bring any food into my room. All in all, this place is extremely overpriced, out of date, poorly designed and maintained, uncomfortable, unsightly, and just plain gross and sketchy. Also it's about an hour's walk from Venice Beach - I wouldn't call that "near"... and THERE IS NO COFFEE, FREE OR...
Read moreI recently stayed at this location. I originally reserved a three night stay. Monday through Thursday. I chose this location because of the amazing photo gallery of the rooms I saw online. Plus the great location near LAX . Especially since I was traveling for a flight attendant interview. I was really excited about this stay. Once I arrived to check in at the front desk. The agent was nowhere to be found. I had to stand outside in the rain and ring a bell for him to notice my arrival. He took my information and credit card then proceeded to check me in. Once I arrived to my room and open the door. I was in absolute disbelief! This was absolutely nothing like the pictures I had previously viewed online. This room was the size of a closet. The TV was the size of a Toshiba laptop while being stacked on top of the mini refrigerator and microwave. I found hair on the bed and the room had no closet. I only had a bookcase shelf to store my suits. I quickly went back to the desk and demanded to change rooms because of all the issues I had with this room. The front desk representative told me he had no rooms available. I told him to please put a notation on my reservation that I would like to change rooms first thing in the morning. Ten minutes later he knocked on my door and gave me keys to a better room. This room was okay, but still not clean like in the photo gallery online. The next day I went downtown to a Art Museum. When I came back from my outings for the evening. I stoped by the desk to add a additional guest to my room because I connected with another candidate that had the same flight attendant interview as mines. We did go to my room and prepped for our interview the next day. Then he left the room afterwards. The next morning I receive a very rude and aggressive phone on my cell phone from the front desk. Due to the Hotel Room Phone not working at all. It was the manager on the line. She demanded I checkout and leave the hotel exactly at 11am because I could have any visitors in my room. Which on my reservation states you clearly can have up to two guest in the room. She was very upset that I called Choice Privileges Customer Support on her. She told me that, I would have to leave and that her mind was made up. I explained to her, If those are the rules for this property I should've been notified immediately or this should've been added to the hotel reg card at check in. She continued to state that, she doesn't run her property like that! "No Visitors Allowed" she aggressively said to me. She was very frustrated that Choice Customer Support was asking her questions after I reported her unreasonable demands. This experience ruined my entire trip. I had to find a new hotel on the other side of town further away from my interview location. I had to spend unnecessary money for Uber, Lyft and a unexpected Security Deposit at the new hotel I had to struggle to find. This experience with this location and terrible management costed me unnecessary stress, unexpected money and missed opportunities. I would like a full refund for my horrific unclean stay and offensive dismissive experience! I do not recommend anyone to stay at...
Read moreAs a superhost for Airbnb I feel compelled to write something about my recent experience at the Rodeway Inn. Firstly, it’s painted with fairly new bright paint. I love the vibe from the outside, reminded me of the kind of place often used in Hollywood movies where detectives go to question witnesses. I probably wouldn’t have bothered to write this review if I had paid $40 for a night, but with tax it cost me $140. So here we go.||We arrived at the Rodeway Inn at about 9:00 PM. The young man at the check-in counter was very polite and checked us in with a smile. However, the first clue this hotel was a bad idea was that he was behind a thick glass screen, the kind some high security banks now instal for a good reason. Next I moved my car from temporary parking to the back of the hotel as directed. But the on-site hotel parking was inadequate. So I drove down the adjacent residential side street and there were signs literally every 15-20ft along the road displaying “tow away residence only parking” signs. I drove back to the front desk to ask where to park. It was at that point that a police cruiser parked directly behind me and asked me why I was there. When I walked towards their vehicle to answer, they ordered me to stand back. They continued to question me and eventually let me go. I’m pretty sure that the police have this placed staked-out. Second ominous sign we were in the wrong place.||Next we go to our room, number 214, directly above the check-in office. It was reached by walking next to an adjacent darkened alley that could easily have been used in a Hollywood horror movie, you know the kind where someone brings their victims to get sliced-up. We continue to climb the stairs trying to avoid touching the hand rails coated in 20 layers of old chipped paint.||As we opened the door to the room we found it to be dismal. First impression was that the room decor was extremely dated, maybe early 70s era furniture. The front door was dented and had exposed screw holes. Two king sized beds with the original factory plastic bags covering the foundations were crammed into the area where one could fit best. The stained carpeted floors seemed to be poorly vacuumed with white powder visible in some places and one worn patch was held together with duct tape. The furniture and sink surfaces were adequately clean. Wallpaper was peeling in one place. Black mold was clearly visible around the bathtub seal, the shower head was covered in various colorful molds, and the toilet had a heavily rusted exposed stud holding it down.||All that being said, I found my bed was actually quite comfortable, but we did find a small blood stain on one of the sheets. Light snacks were provided in the check-in room in the morning that consisted of toast, fake orange juice and coffee.||One last comment. They made sure we returned the plastic room access cards, I’m pretty sure they intended to...
