FIRST TIME TRYING OUT CUISINE FROM BRASIL!!
DETAILS & EXPERIENCE I attended dinner here with a few of my friends for a casual meet up. I was surprised that this Cafe was actually a part of a motel. Needless to say, it was a wonderful surprise on a seemingly quiet street. We enjoyed the night wonderfully, with wonderful customer service and food that was served on such a giant plate, and it was so good, I finished the food in seconds.
SETTING The outside setting is one that is a lively garden, with a warm brown wooden finish, and greenery surrounding the outside decor. The atmosphere begged for a coffee and steak dinner. The inside was lowly lit with a wonderful fragrance of the welcoming sunset. Pictures all around and music from Brasil played as soccer games played on the TV background. Comfortable, safe, and with a good dose of fresh flowers and water, Cafe Brasil definitely stood out as the perfect balance between cafe and restaurant.
PRICE, QUANTITY, & QUALITY FOR PRICE $20+ Most of their dishes range between $4 - $20. You order up front first and then receive a number and once your meal is ready, they call you up and you go get your food. It is definitely authentic in taste and variety, and just the right amount in portion. Served on a big plate with multiple sides, you are bound to call one meal, the only meal you need for that day.
SUGGESTIONS Come hungry. Definitely gotta try their lamb chops or the steak option just above the lamb chops. Their steak really made my mouth watery.
FINAL THOUGHTS I had a wonderful time with friends and the people here are genuinely nice. It's a wonderful place and honestly, probably one of the best motels and cafes in all of LA. This one, is a must, and a...
Read moreA small, cozy and colorful environment and delicious, succulent meat. This place was my first (and only) experience with brazilian food, and it did not disappoint. I've been here twice, and ordered the same thing both times: the picanha steak churrasco. It did not disappoint. It was well done, yet still flavorful and juicy. The steak came with grilled onions, rice, beans, fried plantains, and the choice of soup or salad (I chose salad). I was stuffed by the end of the meal, but it was easily one of the best south american meals I've ever had. Way better than mexican food, in my opinion (at least the places I've had). The green salad had a homemade dressing unlike what I've tasted before, and this place definitely has me coming back for more.
However, I do have some issues with this place. It is seat yourself, and surprisingly busy on a saturday night. If you can come during the week (the first time I came here was a wed and it was empty), you'll get your choice of the (limited) seating. Additionally, the menu isn't very extensive. If you're looking for a true brazillian dish, the churassco is the only thing to really order. Coming from a family that likes to order different things and then taste, this was an issue. Lastly, when I came on saturday night, the two tv screens were showing some pretty raunchy music videos. A little awkward when there with my family.
Overall though, great food, but limited choices. Come here a couple of times, order the churrasco, then find another place with a more...
Read moreLet's start saying that, I love this place. Very quaint, the decoration, the colors of the walls, the tables outside, etc. I've only tried the salmon, I've been there a few times, however, I've noticed something: We got an order to pick up recently, when we showed up, an old lady was putting our order together, and she said: I'll put the fried yucca and fries in the same container, I said no big deal. Plates comes with rice and beans, about a Tbsp of vinagrette and of yucca flour, also you choose between small soup or salad. So the french fries and yucca were extra sides that we have payed for. Our food came out. We took it to the park, really hungry, opened up the food, and guysss! I really wished I took a pic; the lady gave us, prob 10 skinny french fries, and some big crumbles of yucca fried, not even one whole piece, they were probably 4 'chunks' of yucca fried. The pieces of salmon were SO small, specially one of them (we order 2 salmon plates). As much as I like this place, I'm going to make a point of not going back. For the amount of money we have payed, the portions were not worthy; and I have the strong feeling that the old lady, who was the one who prepared the food, and got our order ready, is the owner, or at least, someone with high position. Previous visits, it was always the guys who served us, greeted us, and gave us what we were paying for, in terms on food. If you run out of items, just say it; charging us from crumbles is a shame, specially during...
