To start with, despite Tripadvisor thinking otherwise, there is no hot tub/jacuzzi any more.||||The bathroom had a funky sliding door. Either we had bathroom smells spreading into the bedroom, or whenever either of us used the bathroom at night, it made a loud noise that bothered the other one of us.||||We used an AAA (Auto Assn. of America) deal that provided two adult breakfasts (supposedly worth $17.95 each) and two breakfasts for children each night. We failed to acquire children for the first free breakfast, and after eating it, we decided not to borrow some grandkids because we were too fond of them. If we had actually had to pay $35.90 for the food we got, we'd have given that restaurant one star. My $12 eggs over easy were over hard, came with overcooked breakfast potatoes, and came with one slice of toast. I could not get a bagel and cream cheese instead of the toast without paying extra. The chicken sausages were pretty tasty and almost hot enough. We could drink either orange juice or coffee, not both. My wife's breakfast sandwich had far more arugula and cheese and far less avocado than the pictures. We were not allowed to have a banana on top of those breakfasts (even though my breakfast supposedly only cost $12 and hers $8.95 on a $36.90 free breakfast allotment). Despite our breakfasts being over $9 (day one) and over $14 (day two) under the cited price of two $17.95 breakfasts, we could not get an extra $0.25 banana (price at Trader Joes) or anything else. I have never before spend $17.95 on a breakfast and felt hungry afterwards; two Egg McMuffins fills me up. The amount of ham (correction: cold fatty prosciutto) I got today was less than the amount of ham you'd get with one egg McMuffin.||||My wife did like her breakfast sandwich's flavors even though the proportions did not match the photograph. Today my scrambled eggs were much better. The potatoes weren't. ||||Then to top it all off they insisted on emailing me the bill instead of showing me the bill so I couldn't learn they had charged us for today's free breakfast and contest it until I got home. The restaurant cashier remembered us from yesterday (it's a popular AAA deal I guess) and told us we were good to go. I've had to deal with one phone call (so far) to be followed by a manager's approval (if ever), then at least one other phone call (if they call me back approving the change) or arguments with my credit card company. I'm not paying $24 for that breakfast; it's the principle of the thing.||||We have stayed at this Courtyard many times before for over twenty years (it's near friends) and never had any incidents to make us think poorly of it. I guess this is the kind of thing to expect from today's capitalism.||||If we had gotten a room with a regular closing bathroom door and hadn't ordered any food, it would have been a four star review.||||If our food had matched what we receive at other hotels that offer free breakfast, or if I did not have to deal with multiple phone calls because they charged us for a free breakfast, it would have been a three star review.||||But as is, two stars, the first Courtyard rating I have ever given...
Read moreHave a long lineage of hospitality and I must say I did not expect this from a Marriott Brand. When I managed a tiny boutique property in Socal and had planned or unplanned interruptions, we were super courteous to our guests and made sure as much as possible that they were comfortable and felt safe during their stay. Checking in I heard an elder couple grumbling about the construction that they were unaware, well most people were aware, doesn't mean everyone books through websites and reads all the sections like I do. The front desk clerk Carlos could have been a bit more courteous, but also not his fault, it's all about training from management. Within the first week of staying here my 9 yr old son has a nail go straight through his flip flop and yes we know, construction on-site but it would be proper for the crew to walk around with a detector to check. Good thing he wasn't barefoot like most kids by the poolside. Oh and the pool, we were told it would be open by June 15th, it's June 30th and not a single courtesy call or "hey sorry it's pushed out to July 15th". My question is why? The pool is not being worked on not is the direct landscape around it, look at my pics, pool is just sitting there waiting to be used. Anyway, small tiny disappointments after disappointments, my youngest son who just turned 5 stepped on a plant in the landscaping area, probably on purpose in front of the General Manager Elia, who rushes to my kid and points to my wife and complains about him. Astonishing, I never would have never expected a trained and seasoned manager of a Marriott Brand to act in such a manner. Is it because this is THE Marriott next to the Apple Spaceship and they boast all year long on their well driven numbers without any effort in service? There have been other children here and it is noticeable the staff aren't kid friendly at all. Is this what Marriott's customers and clients deserve whether they are paying $89 a Night or $899 a night? I ask myself, what would Steve Jobs say about this? Or what would my old bosses at my hotels say about this. The General Manager finally had the time to speak to me today and drop the line, "You know, our rates were $600 something just a few months ago", pointing to my penny pinching ideology since I'm paying $84 a night. I'm not just about saving my pennies, I also look for quality in savings and service, or else I would have stayed at the Quality Inn for $20 less expecting no breakfast and no Quality service which they have both of. To Tony and the rest of the staff at this Marriott Courtyard, I learned one thing from my hospitality career in the past 25 years, take care of your guest and at least try to satisfy them, naturally. Hotels and their staff last purely based on customer service and then product. Kudos to the maids here as they do know how to do their job but wonder how long...
Read moreI booked my stay here almost a month prior. I really should have called ahead. The hotel was under construction, which was inconvenient but at least they are trying to improve the property. ||On arrival the main entry was closed, a staff member rushed to let us in a side door. As we were checking in he was listing off all of the amenities were closed. Pool, bistro, gym because of construction, then went on that housekeeping was not operating unless requested due to covid. We drove 14 hours to find out everything was closed. When asking why this was not posted clearly on the site or booking page he stated it was and we should have known. He was condescending and pretty much I don't give a sh*t if you walk out attitude. It was late and we were kind of stuck dealing with it. We did go back to the web page, booking site and reminder email could not find any of this info. As we were checking out we were shown where to find it. It's really hidden on the site.||The room: ||We had to park pretty far away due to the construction, we get to the room. Plop on the bed to find it rock hard. We opened the sliding door, and found the screen was ripped, so we opted for the A/C it was so loud made it difficult to talk. We noticed the smoke detector was still wrapped from the painters. The bathroom door could barely close without a lot of force and the shower doors kept sliding open. We had the main curtain partially open and the semi-see through curtain pulled over the window, one morning we woke up to at least 2 construction workers peering in, that's our bad we should have pulled the black out curtain. We found the fridge not working. It had a switch panel inside. It would run for 2 hours and shut off. Most of our leftovers went bad. ||After a couple days of take out (bistro was closed) we started to collect a lot of trash. Apparently we were not the only ones because all of the external trash cans were full as well. We found a housekeeper in the hall she gave us a large contractor bag for the waste. ||||Any one of these complaints alone might not have been a big deal. But combined made for a lousy stay. We never really saw a reason for the pool to be closed. Really looks like they are short staffed or just really cheap. ||||Two items that did stand out, one spectacular WiFi. Me and my wife were able to stream our meetings with no hiccups. ||Two : Charles, he was at the counter for check out. In a week stay he was the only staff member that genuinely seemed to care about our stay. Took the time to show us where the restrictions were posted and did apologize for problems. ||It really seems like they should have just closed for...
