After doing my own research on types of bed mattresses available, I was quite confident that Sleep Number was going to be a great fit for me and my specific needs and preferences (my budget was of concern, though). I scheduled a time to meet with the staff at the Deer Park, IL location. (At this point, Sleep Number was not aware that they were my possible preference already). I met with Kathy. She is fantastic, great listener, fun conversationalist and knows Sleep Number products very well. As this is an investment for me, I wanted to ensure Sleep Number did not just look good on paper - but it could actually perform based on my personal preferences. Kathy was patient and understanding with me as I proceeded to try out various models of their sleep number mattresses. I asked every question I could come up with, relative to my personal preferences, the sleep system performance, warranty and challenged her with different scenarios, etc. By the way, I feel it is not appropriate to call Sleep Number a "mattress"... after my experience, my prior research, reviews of numerous ratings, and finally in person at their showroom - their "mattresses" are TRULY sleep systems. I don't mean they are too "techie" or complicated - whatever your personal needs or preferences are - I am confident Sleep Number has the "mattress" to fulfill your sleeping dreams! To clarify, their technology is incredible and various models offer a multitude of options if you choose - warming, cooling, adjustable, dense, body conforming, individual choices for each sleeping partner side, etc...In addition they also have a variety of accessories-pillows for most needs, protector covers, bedding... And to answer the budget question - Kathy was very clear on what my budget was...she compiled everything we discussed and the results of my personal comfort number testing to present the options for me. I was very satisfied with our decision! PLEASE NOTE: my previous mattress purchase (without any base) cost more than my Sleep Number system! Understand that the sleep number system has the ability to adjust to your comfort level needs whenever you want or need. For example, had a tough day or intense workout? Adjust your sleep number to provide more support! A standard mattress CANNOT adjust, it ends up saggy and unsupportive. Thanks again Kathy and Staff at Sleep Number in Deer Park, IL!! I appreciate you...
Read moreI’d give a zero if I could. I was extremely disappointed with my recent experience involving Sleep Number, particularly regarding misleading information and inconsistencies surrounding costs and services—issues I regret to say occurred on more than one occasion.
When I visited the store in Deer Park, Illinois, I inquired about what would happen to my existing 13-year-old Sleep Number bed, which no longer holds its firmness. I asked, point-blank, whether it would be removed at no charge. I was given a clear and affirmative response—yet I ended up paying $80. related to its removal.
I went on to explain to both the salesperson & the store manager, my reservations about investing in another Sleep Number product. I mentioned that my second bed in Florida repeatedly requires resetting, and although I was told this was likely due to an outdated Wi-Fi signal (2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz), I was reassured that newer software updates had resolved such issues.
During the sales process, I was shown a warranty card and told I could purchase an additional three-year warranty for $350 at any time before delivery. I decided to take some time to consider it, given the gravity of the purchase. Later, I was shocked to find out the price was actually $399—yet another discrepancy that I find completely unacceptable. Sadly, I didn’t read the fine print on the card they flashed, but trusted their words.
To compound my frustration, I have now learned that delivery will occur later in the month leaving me no option but to sleep on a couch for the next 11 days. For a purchase of over $12,000, I expected—and frankly deserved—a far smoother, more transparent process.
This experience has felt like a bait-and-switch operation, and had my husband not been battling cancer and in urgent need of a bed with elevation and climate control, I would have taken my business elsewhere. Instead, I trusted the brand and falsely assumed they would deliver with integrity and care, but that was where I made my first mistake. It’s evident that Sleep Number and its representatives prioritized making the sale over honest...
Read more*edit to review: Wanted to add that despite my full review below- sleep number still refuses to make things right despite me reaching out numerous times. District manager Doug Markum refuses to contact me to discuss my concerns. Please avoid Sleep Number like your life depends on it. Deceptive company with horrible customer service and poor quality products. I lost nearly $4k to this company
I genuinely advise you to avoid Sleep Number at all costs, and this location specifically. Please do your research online and please read the fine print before making any purchase. My husband and I are eating the cost of a $3,500 adjustable base because our sales person (Kathy Miller) not once verbalized that the base is nonrefundable. In fact she said the opposite to scam us of our money- “if you don’t like it, it will be like you never had it”. Please please please, ask all the questions you can and ask about their return policies. Do not let them deceive you like they did to us. We were able to return the mattress (which was horrible, way over priced, not at all like the display in the store, and gimmicky- believe what they say online “glorified air mattress”), however, we have to eat a $250 fee for sleep number to collect the returned mattress (again, Kathy Miller never mentioned this).
Whatever you do, please don’t just believe/assume that Sleep Number is a good and reputable company like we did. Do your research, ask questions, read the fine print, don’t sign anything without a thorough explanation of what you are signing. To make your life a lot easier- just avoid sleep number.
Lastly. Arnie the manager is profoundly unprofessional and childish. You should be ashamed of yourself and the...
