This review has nothing to do with Ms. Helen, who was lovely and accommodating. She allowed us to check in early with no additional cost, and again, she was warm, friendly, and kind. I think she might have been overwhelmed by the amount of people who were there, but I think that an honest review of the property and its amenities is necessary. The parking was fantastic. There are 5 off-street spaces, as well as plenty of parking on the street and in the neighboring Walgreens lot. The location is wonderful. The common areas inside are beautiful and inviting. However, the photos online are not an accurate representation of The Adagio at this time. There is no enforcement of social distancing or wearing masks whatsoever. The other guests were uncomfortably intoxicated and had basically camped themselves in the incredibly cramped Garagio, making it impossible to relax and enjoy the space. They were doing shots of whiskey and tequila in the Garagio (which is prohibited, btw), and they were just plain trashy. While it's possible to smoke in the courtyard, it was chilly (in the 30s-40s) when we stayed, so that wasn't a viable option. The courtyard itself was a lovely space, and we certainly would've utilized it had the weather permitted. That being said, there needs to be more indoor space for cannabis consumption, especially while we're dealing with a pandemic. The snacks available were not as pictured. There were pretzels and cashews and a bowl or two of candy. The dessert was a tray of brownies. That's it. I was under the impression that the cost of our accommodations included food made by a gourmet chef. This was more like a visit to your grandma's house with your weird cousins there at the same time. You end up hiding in your room to avoid them.
On to the room.
All of the rooms in The Adagio are named after composers, but you wouldn't know that by the decor. The only things that said Handel were the tag on the door and the brief write up in the handy binder provided by Ms. Helen: everything else was floral print and birds. The binder itself was great, with lots of information on local eateries, breweries, and dispensaries, as well as information about Denver and The Adagio. The bed was comfortable, and those are the only positive things I have to say about the room. One of the windows was broken and had been taped over with packing tape. The blinds, window A/C unit, and closet were filthy. Our entire room needed a dusting and thorough scrubbing. The comforter felt greasy, and the accent pillows smelled like they hadn't been laundered in quite some time. The choice of wicker furniture was a poor one. It's nearly impossible to keep clean without glass tops, and the vanity and dresser had neither, so copious amounts of dust had accumulated there. My allergies did not do well here. It appeared that some updates had been done to to the bathroom, but the paint stopped short of the sink and the toilet leaked. The shower was 80s fabulous, which also didn't make sense in the space. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in some time; I couldn't bring myself to shower while there. I was glad it was only a one night stay.
I struggled to write this review because Ms. Helen was so kind and accommodating. I decided to write this though because we nearly packed our bags and went to another hotel. We were torn between being uncomfortable and not wanting to break Ms. Helen's heart. She seems to genuinely care and want to make The Adagio a special place. Ultimately, if our reservation had been for more than 1 night, we would've left. I wrote this and included photos because I thought, "What if someone was looking to book their honeymoon here? What would I want them to know?" Hospitality isn't enough to make a successful B&B. It needs to meet or exceed guests' expectations, and the cleanliness needs to be unquestionable. With some updates, a Garagio expansion, and additional staff, The Adagio could be all it promises to...
Read moreThe Adagio is a charming little B&B. The rooms are all appropriately themed to classical composters. We stayed in the Handel room which had a king sized bed and its own bathroom and shower. We did not realize another room had a jet bathtub or else we probably would have stayed in that one! The house is very homey and has a large patio and a "Garagio" where guests can smoke and hang out. The hot tub is located outside the Garagio and is a relaxing way to wind down a cool evening. The B&B is located within walking distance of a lot of restaurants, including late night eats, and shops. While the B&B does not have a lot of parking itself, guests are able to park in the lot of the Walgreens next door. The room we stayed in was roomy and comfortable. The bed was great to sleep in! If any guests needed additional blankets or pillows, they were already in the room! My new husband and I came to stay after our flight was changed due to overbooking and we had to stay a couple more days in Denver. The B&B hostess, Helen (sp?) was not feeling well and by the reviews, I wish we had caught her on a better day. Two people, not quite remembering their names, we were never properly introduced, assisted her during our stay there. When Helen was feeling okay, she came and talked to us while my husband and I played cards in the main room and during our first breakfast there. The breakfasts we had were absolutely delicious. Since Helen was not feeling well, we did not want to bother her much, however, the ones who were assisting her we could not find very often so we were not able to ask for anything in terms of needs. Other than a couple who stayed the second night we were there and another who stayed the third, we were the only ones there during the days. We had saw on the website about a happy hour and we did not experience in the first evening. We asked about it our second evening and the lady said it was new and was happy to prepare us something for happy hour. She made a beautiful spread for us and included a bottle of wine. I hope they will be able to continue this in the future, I think others would enjoy it as well. The "Garagio" from my understanding, is still being worked on after new codes and policies were put into place by Denver/CO. Guests used to be able to smoke in the house. The Garagio was comfortable and the hosts have heaters inside in case it is cold. All the seating is relaxing and has the needs of any guests including sanitation supplies.
I look forward to visiting again and hope Helen is feeling better. From my understanding of other reviews, the hostess makes staying at the B&B that much more phenomenal. Thank you Adagio for letting us take an adagio on...
Read moreAfter seeing this place on TV (60 Minutes) some friends decided to visit due to the 420 friendly atmosphere, we decided to go with, as the medicine has shown to improve function on my disabled veteran husband's brain scan. This is truly a SPECIAL experience. We were bunking with Liberals & hippies, Jews & atheists, homosexuals and straights, black & white, and many other flavors from ALL over the country - talk about culture shock for us. We, with our rural, small town, Kentucky backgrounds (gun-toting Christian conservative types) had the BEST time of our lives! Because the media has painted us horribly, I, myself, probably would not have booked our "redneck stereotyped" group had I been the owner-thinking the backgrounds (cultural, regional) could potentially clash with staff or other guests. What an opportunity I would have missed! (That is where Lisa went right!! She welcomed all the diversity.) The only requirement is to be 420 friendly whether you indulge or not. Check your cultural biases at the door. Not a REQUIREMENT, it JUST HAPPENS! This place is almost magical. We were received as if we were long missed family by the staff and the other guests from the moment we walked in! It continued that way our entire stay. We found ourselves happily greeting the next guests in the same warm, inviting & hospitable (like home) manner. If you are open-minded enough to be 420 friendly (GEN 1:12, 1:29), do yourself a favor, book your room today! I am renewed, invigorated, and in love with humanity from this unique experience! These people deserve an award for their innovative cultural diplomacy. To the owners of THE FIRST PLACE OF ITS KIND, pioneers Lisa and Joel Scheider and their Adagio staff: "Thank you so much for showing me agape love!" My words do not give the experience justice, it's not about the beautiful food and lodging, you can get that anywhere. It is about the beautiful people, Lisa, and the staff she has pulled together and their hospitality! World leaders could make peace here! Three of our group of five have already booked for next year - the other two are trying to decide whether to book Adagio (the proven best) or to try one of your other 420 friendly properties, like Silver Thorne. Get in while you can, folks!! PS- I personally think ghost hunter types would be real interested The Adagio Bed and Breakfast...
