In January of 2024 I was planning a July trip to Colorado for a friend’s wedding. I went online to book my flight and then search for hotels at the Denver International Airport. The High Plains Hotel (aka Spark by Hilton) came up in the list of results. I compared the prices of the hotels listed and decided the price for High Plains Hotel was reasonable. I then checked to see if there was availability for the night that I needed (7/23/24). There was a standard king available, so I booked it. I received a confirmation email from the High Plains Hotel dated January 28, 2024. || Days before my reservation (7/21/24), I called the hotel to inform them that I would be arriving late. I gave them my information and asked if there was anything that I needed to do. They told me that I was all set.|| The day of the flight, I was informed that my flight was delayed. I called the hotel again to notify them that my flight would be delayed. They again told me that I was all set.|| At no time during the six months since the reservation was made, or at the time of the 2 phone calls, was I notified that my reservation would not be honored for the confirmed price.|| When I arrived at the hotel at 1:00 a.m., the employee working the front desk informed me that they would not honor the price that I booked for. I informed this person that I had a confirmation email from when I booked the room in January. She then told me that it was irrelevant, they would not honor it. If it wasn’t for the fact that I had been traveling for 10 hours and it was extremely late at night, I would have left to find another hotel room. I took the room and asked for the manager’s contact information. I was given an email address for the front desk.|| My confirmation quoted a price of $74.59 total. I was then charged $219.91 total. I was told that they would email me a receipt, but they did not.|| On August 5, after I returned home from my trip, I emailed this issue to the email address that I was given for the manager of the front desk at the hotel. I received no response.|| On August 9, I called the hotel and spoke to a manager. I explained the issue. She said that they were having trouble with Internet searches. She offered to credit my account $50.00. I didn’t think that was quite enough since they charged me $145.32 more than my confirmation letter stated, but I thought that at least it was something, so I agreed. To this day, my account still has not been credited.|| On August 15, I called again and received the hotel operator. He told me that both managers were in a meeting. He told me to email the same address that I was previously given and he would tell them to check the email when the meeting was over. So, I sent another email that again resulted in no response. || I called back later on that same day hoping that they would be out of the meeting. I talked to a different manager that took my name and number. She claimed that she would talk to the manager that I had previously spoken to and call me back. I’m still waiting for that call back.||Don't trust them even if they sent you a...
Read moreThis hotel is very basic but meets needs! It's was my first time to stay at a Spark. To be honest, I've been avoiding them. We stay almost exclusively at Hilton family hotels so we're very familiar with their various brands. What struck me about this hotel was almost a sense of "What can we do to make this " feel" like a budget hotel?" Again this is my first time at this location and at any Spark hotel. But as far as I can tell, this is a pretty new hotel. Yet the bathtub had the old school rubber stopper with a chain. Don't get me wrong, those can be better than the ones that are supposed to close but don't, or have a slow leak. The sink was in the entryway vs in bathroom. The lamps felt very cheap with tiny switches. The air conditioner controls are in the window unit, not the wall. I just came from Africa, so comparatively, these are still luxury items: air conditioning; safe, running water, electricity, etc. So I'm not complaining, but I am observing how this feels compared to other hotels in the Hilton portfolio.
Pros: •Deborah at Front desk was extremely helpful before I even arrived and very helpful after. •Clean room, water bottles waiting •10-15 minutes from Rental car return/airport •Not far from Murphy gas for a quick fill up before return I arrived late and left before 5am so no opportunity to check out breakfast or even see the place in daylight. •The bed and especially pillows, more similar to DoubleTree pillows. 😍 •The sofa was a nice touch in the room. Con: The side of the bed I slept on didn't have a table or lamp with outlet for phone charging. In today's world, there's cheap and then there's necessary. I needed my phone to be charged enough to wake me up. I did some digging around and found one behind the mattress. •Had to pay for parking. In a regular parking lot, no garage or anything fancy, or even a security guard. •I got a reduced rate, but the rate seems high for this budget of a hotel, especially if you have to also pay for parking! I stayed the night before at a Hilton Garden Inn for quite a bit less during prime holiday travel time (with free parking). Maybe the rates are more reasonable at less peak travel? I...
Read moreHORRIBLE AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! My friends and I arrived at the hotel at 11am from the airport back in May and the lady at the front desk could not care less about her job or what was going on. We asked if it was possible if we could check in early and she never even responded just gave us a dirty look. We then asked if we could possibly leave our bags somewhere while we went into the city because we called earlier in the week about it. We were told there was a room they had where they stored luggage for their guests but when we asked she pointed down next to her and said there. I wasn’t leaving my personal items with this lady who clearly did not care about her job or anything else that was going on around her.
As for the hotel itself, it was under construction when we arrived. No where on the website or in an email confirmation did it say it was under construction. I asked to use the bathroom so I could quick change and she said “nope, no bathroom go to the gas station down the road.” Like what? how do you not have a bathroom. As it was 3 girls I just decided to take our stuff and go to the hotel next door because this place was definitely not safe at this point. We ended up staying at the Days Inn next door which was 10 times better and the employees there were extremely nice with our situation.
We booked through Priceline and we were told we could not receive a refund through them, it had to be approved through the hotel itself which the hotel told us it was through Priceline, since whoever the lady at the front desk was a liar. Priceline couldn’t get ahold of the hotel so we decided to call. Each time I called the hotel and asked to speak with the manager the lady at the front came up with excuse after excuse on why she couldn’t come to the phone. I asked her if she could call me back and she said “no the manager won’t call you back” WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE WONT CALL ME BACK. This place is full of liars and rude human beings. Take your money elsewhere because they could care less about their...
