Beware Booked through the park whiz app for an unbelievable price for a Saturday night Tiger game. I never parked here before and decided to use it as we had a larger group with 2 cars. This location @ Grand River is right next to The Belt and several popular nighttime spots so it’s LOUD and busy with people walking and hanging out. Even though I booked a reserved spot, the gates were wide open with signs of $60 premier pricing. From research since it seems like they use digital cameras for Address billing for full amount no matter how you booked. With the gates being wide open, there were way too many cars in the structure, I’d assume thinking that it is free parking. This was a nightmare of a log jam, leaving as we were in the structure for at least 90 minutes. I would rather pay an extra hundred dollars and park in a lot from previous experiences to be able to leave and avoid a nightmare scenario I’ll be stuck in traffic for three hours.
I’ve come downtown Detroit hundreds of times and this was absolutely my worst experience in my lifetime trying to leave the structure. Even worse than the Joe Louis parking during the Red Wings playoff days. So, if you’re looking to book, something cheap screenshot your receipts and be prepared to stay until events are well over or leave extremely early During busy downtown nights. Though this is also a popular garage for rooftop pictures...
Read moreI believe this parking structure is now owned or being run by Metropolis- Premier Parking which is an app style parking/pay system. This was not the case up until recently. Do not park your vehicle at this location. Just the fact that you now park/pay via an app and then who knows how much you get charged makes no sense, it’s robbery and you will never get your money back. I rather pay upfront in cash or in some other way. I parked here in the evening of 4/25. This was the NFL draft night. I have been parking here for years usually $10 and it used to be the system where you scan you CC then go in but now they switched to this app business. I was at their location for 2 hrs and I was charged $80 and a $4 handling fee on top of that. So essentially $84 for 2 hrs… The part that rubs me the wrong way is that this was not explained to me in any way so I was blind sighted when I saw my bank statement this AM. I called the Metropolis help line and they said that they had posted multiple signs at the garage entrances stating a $80 flat fee, I did not see anything… They were not able to help me but they said that they would escalate my case which I think means they will do nothing and I will still be down $84. Be careful w/ these parking structures that have this app system. Very hard to...
Read moreLet me start by saying when my friend recommend that we hit up the "Z Lot" I wasn't sure what to expect. I was told it was a parking garage transformed into an art exhibit- and from that description I was a tad confused.
We parked outside of the lot and decided to venture in and walk up the entire garage and after the first floor I became very excited. I realized exactly what she was talking about.
The Z Park is essentially a parking garage transformed into a structured art project. Each floor displaying a different mural and it's own unique theme to it. As you walk/drive up it, you will see a large variety of different local artists, each making their mark on the city. I was really blown away by the uniqueness of this place- and also the celebration of local art and culture that you will NOT find in many cities. It's a slice of Detroit that deserves huge recognition and should be included in more of the cities tourist attractions. This is not a place to pass up.
Walk up or drive up, nomatter how you do it- support the local artists and help celebrate the local culture. This is what Detroit is all about!
(P.S. - The view from the top is one of the best...
