First, I'm an AVID concert goer and have been to venues all over the country, both large and small. Being on the floor for a concert at this venue is dangerous, and the security is a joke. To leave the floor, you have to figure out which aisles are going up and feeding to the rotunda. You have to go up to the rotunda to use the restroom and get cocktails. Count on at least 45 minutes for this. As if that's not bad enough, you've got thousands of people being hoarded like cattle trying to go up these aisles. They only open a few aisles going up to the rotunda causing a major backlog of people creating complete and total chaos.
One male in his 60s was very upset because he felt people were cutting in front of the line...umm buddy there is no line and no one knows what they are doing other than following the crowd.... so he proceeded to weave in and out of people screaming "rude" and obscenities at the top of his lungs.. to the point he was spitting on everyone around him. He then proceeded to act like a lunatic and stalked after the person he felt had cut the most. He was screaming obscenities at a woman who was walking alone and trying to intimidate her. He then followed her to the bathroom where he paced back and forth screaming in the rotunda. I asked the people serving beer to please call security. The person was reading the back of a beverage can and wouldn't even acknowledge me even when they could hear AND see this lunatic 20 feet from them!! They wouldn't even acknowledge me. I am not kidding, I was waiting for John Quinones to pop out.
I then had to track down security because this man was not stopping. Good luck figuring out who security was. The security was an embarrassment and a mall security officer does a better job. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. One gentleman in the bathroom line with his wife had witnessed all of it. He was so upset that nothing was being done and he could see this guy was a danger, especially to women, he followed the guy and called so we could give security his location. Supposedly, security went to get him. It was so bad that a man wanted him to leave the venue because of his unprovoked lunatic behavior. He could see clearly that this guy was a threat. He was on some kind of drugs. I did not feel safe at this venue and will not return. I'm disappointed in the security and access from the floor at this venue.
I went to all of this trouble because this crazy guy was going to back on the floor and I didn't want to see him again. He was particularly fond of...
Read moreIt was very clean, everyone was very friendly and helpful. There were a lot of staff available just to help with directions! There were surprisingly no lines in the bathrooms! Comerica either has enough Women's bathrooms, or less women go to Tigers games than other public events?!
The lines were a little long at concessions, maybe because there were not as many vendors going up and down the stands selling water and such like I remember, but I think that's probably a result of having so many more choices now and the pandemic (with people being less enthusiastic about having others pass their items down the row and several other pairs of hands touching their drinks and food).
I also was a little consternated because there wasn't a great way to get everything that I ordered back to my seat. I ordered for my niece and sister as well so that they didn't have to wait in line with me, and I ordered a bag of peanuts, 3 bottled waters, and 3 ice creams in those little plastic Tigers hats. The most they could offer me was a cardboard drink carrier, which wasn't ideal for the ice cream hats/bowls, which were a little too big to wedge into the holder. A plastic bag would have been great for my other stuff, but they didn't have it. So, go prepared and with a plan, or make your people wait in line with you. But, Guernseys Ice Cream? Worth it! And there was a television so that I could see the action that I was missing while in line.
The fireworks afterward were fantastic! I absolutely love the Friday night fireworks and I highly recommend staying. We were in an area that we had to change seats, but they let us sit wherever we wanted.
We parked in the subterranean garage right across the street from Gate B, which was great. The only downside was that the stairs that we came out of the garage didn't allow for re-entry there, so we had to walk slightly farther to get back to the car, but it was through a little well-lit park and there were security guards--we just had a tired and whiney kid with us, 😂. I don't think that Comerica owns the parking garage, but I thought that I would mention it, because it made that part of our...
Read moreBeautiful Park, But Unprepared for the Heat—Needs Better Accommodations
Seeing a Tigers game at Comerica Park is a fun tradition for many families and friends, and we were excited to enjoy the day. The ballpark itself is visually beautiful and full of energy—but unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired due to a lack of accommodations for extreme weather and some major accessibility oversights.
With the kind of heat Michigan has been facing recently, it was shocking to see how little shade and ventilation are available in the seating areas. We witnessed multiple people suffering from heat-related medical issues—some bright red, hyperventilating, even needing to be carted out by medics. It was honestly alarming and made the entire experience uncomfortable and stressful.
There are very few places to sit down and cool off unless you’ve paid for upgraded seating, which really underscores how capitalistic the experience has become. If you're in standard seats, you're stuck in the sun on surfaces so hot they were burning to the touch.
We were also disappointed to see how little allergen information was available. While there is a gluten-free menu (which is great), there's no information at all about the other top allergens—like eggs, dairy, shellfish, peanuts, or soy. This creates unnecessary risk and confusion for anyone with food allergies, especially families with kids.
Another frustrating issue: the lack of non-alcoholic beverage options. My husband had to walk nearly halfway around the stadium just to find a single non-alcoholic Blue Moon. A venue of this size and prestige should be more inclusive and thoughtful in its offerings.
Ultimately, we had to leave the game early because the heat was too much. Between the blazing seats, lack of shade, and minimal accommodations, it just wasn’t a safe or enjoyable experience.
We truly hope Comerica Park can make improvements—more shaded areas, water stations, allergen labeling, and better access to non-alcoholic options would go a long way toward making this a more welcoming space for everyone, no matter...
