I stayed at the Hyatt Place Miami Airport West-Doral as a pre-cruise stay back in April, and at the end of the day, it served the need I needed; however, I did not get a good night sleep for a good reason I will mention later. To start off, my family and I did arrive in on a pretty late flight into Miami International Airport, and the staff were more than accommodating of our late arrival. Regarding the airport, please do note that it was almost a twenty minute drive from the airport to the hotel because the hotel is on the west side of the airport when the access to the airport is to the east. Ultimately, the night sleep was lackluster, there were cleanliness concerns I did have, and the facilities did disappoint in their quality.
First, the night sleep. While I personally found the room temperature, pillow comfort, and blankets to be fine, upon arrival into our room after a long evening of travel, we found a cockroach scurrying across the bathroom floor. Obviously, knowing that there could have been more in the room did not allow us to sleep super comfortably. Upon further inspection, we did not see anymore, but we are hoping none were moving around in our sleep. My Rating for this Category: 3/5
Next, the cleanliness. In terms of bed bugs, stains, or dust, I had zero concerns with the Hyatt Place Miami Airport West-Doral. The hotel was spotless in this regard, however, the cock-roach is where the cleanliness did become a problem. I understand that cockroaches and bugs are pretty common in Florida - definitely more of an issue than were I live in Wisconsin - but for a hotel, that did cause me to lose trust in the rest of the hotel's cleanliness. My Rating for this Category: 2/5
Finally, the facilities. Now, in terms of the offerings of facilities, that is not the issue. In fact, the hotel has a nice outdoor pool, fitness center, free breakfast, and any facilities you would expect at a typical Hyatt Place. However, when it comes to the breakfast situation, it is pure chaos. The food was not really cooked all the way through, and the seating arrangements were terrible. For the amount of people wanting free breakfast in the morning, there was no where to sit, and it created a pretty stressful situation for everyone. My Rating for this Category: 3/5
Ultimately, at the end of the day, the hotel did the trick and gave my family and I a bed to rest on after a long night of traveling, however the special guest we ran into immediately when we checked into the room put a bad taste in our mouth for the rest of the trip. While that is the case, the hotel was stellar when it came to accommodating our late arrival - we did not check in until almost midnight, and the hotel gave us waters and snacks on top of approving the late check-in. So, the night sleep and cleanliness could improve, and the organization of the facilities needs improvement. Until I can be sure the cockroach and breakfast situation is fixed, I would probably look else where for a less stressful and more relaxing...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time staying here between apartment moves. The management was very accommodating in allowing us to park our U-Haul truck in the parking lot at no extra charge.
There were only a two notable things that disturbed our stay. The first is that the hotel smells a little musty. I would not have minded in the least bit, but the room also smelled like it, and I realized it was because of the air condition units in the rooms were blowing out this musty air.
My wife and I both got sick during our stay here because of the poor air quality. My wife developed a sore throat in the first two days and I developed a strong cough. Our symptoms lasted throughout our 11 night stay and cleared up almost immediately after we moved into our new apartment.
The smell coming out of the A/C unit was clearly musty. We tried to help it by taking the face-plate off and spraying a light amount of alcohol on it. It did help some, but the smell and our sickness persisted. You can feel a heavy air when you walk into the hotel. It's kind of everywhere you go. Unavoidable.
The other minor issue is that when you are going to the pool, the air conditioners are leaking water all over you when you walk outside the door. I can imagine this has been a problem since the hotel opened and has never been properly addressed. Management has a permanently stationed wet-floor sign and a soaking-wet mat there, but it doesn't help that there is dirty A/C water unavoidably dripping on your head as you go in and out of the building.
Other than those issues, we had a wonderful time. The room was perfectly accommodating as our interim living space, the location was excellent with many convenient restaurants and shopping, and lastly, the staff was absolutely stellar. We have not been to a Hyatt hotel where the staff did such an exemplary job. I would consider the staff at this location a real hidden gem of the Hyatt hotel chain.
If only the two issues I mentioned above would be properly addressed, I could give a full 5-star rating for this hotel. In the meantime, a 4-star rating is earned by the staff. Without their effort, my review would be a cold 2-stars.
Thank you especially to Elvis at the front desk, who notably went out of his way to ensure our every need was met, as well as to make time for enjoyable conversation on the slower nights at the bar. Thank you to the entire staff, you were...
Read moreOur stay here was phenomenal!!! The two men at the front desk (Sterling & Elvis) were personable & extra helpful. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE is what you want and thanks to these guys, that is what we received. I chose this hotel primarily based on it's close proximity to the Miami Improv. Coming from out-of-town it made sense to make a weekend of it. What I didn't realize was exactly how great this location was. It is literally within walking distance of not only the Improv but City Place Doral. City Place is where you can eat, have drinks, bowl, go to the dine-in movies, plenty of shops and entertainment. The hotel is clean, well maintained inside & out. I liked the decor, very modern. The room was really nice as well. I liked the way it was set up - separate seating area with a pullout bed, desk, mini fridge, the bathroom is on the small size. Our room just had a shower & toilet in the bathroom. The sink & vanity just outside. The pool outside was warm, clean. Depending on when you go you may have it to yourself or it could be full?? I went into the fitness center. It had the basics - cardio machines, weight rack, and mats for yoga or floor exercises. They do have a business center also with a PC, printer, etc . . . All in all, Hyatt Place Miami Airport - West/Doral was the...
